If there is one thing us Boggart Bloggers like better than a mad scientist story it’s a stupid criminal story but if there is one thing we like better than a stupid criminal story it’s a stupid satnav story.
Like this one:
Lorraine and Paul Emptage were relocating from Brisbane to Perth with their son Stephen and family friend Andrew Smith when their satnav told them to turn off the highway near the town of Wilcannia and onto an unsealed road.
Unaware of signs warning that the road in far western New South Wales was closed due to torrential rain, they pushed on.
after several hundred yards their vehicle slipped into a ditch and became bogged down in thick mud.
The couple called Australian police to ask for help, only to be told that conditions were so bad that they would not be able to be rescued for several days.
With just a few sandwiches and bottles of water to survive on, the group tried to dig the car out of the mud themselves, but were unsuccessful. They also walked several miles in an attempt to find help, but were forced back by bad weather.
Trapped in the chilly Outback in the middle of winter and fearing an attack by local wild pigs, the group spent three nights sheltering in the car with their dog before rescuers could eventually come to their aid.
So there are four people in this car, two adults and two teenagers, and none of them thought to ask when the satnav said “Turn left off the main road here and head into the wilderness” why they had turned off the surfaced road when signs said Perth straight on and followed a dirt track marked by a sign that said “Up an Abo’s arsehole.”
We really have to start resisting this drive to brainwash us into believing we must always obey machines because technology is smarter than ua. We have to start thinking for ourselves again. Nothing we make can ever be smater than the person who made it. That should be a no brainer.
