Told You So, Wind Farms Are Just A Tax Scam

You know how Boggart Blog hates to have to say “We told you so”. Really, we would much rather be wrong because our being right only proves the world is run by greedy, theiving, self interested bastards and their lapdogs, the political parties of all shades (except UKIP although Little Nicky sees New World Order attempts to subvert and corrupt them have started).

Get your head round this:

‘Energy giant nPower has admitted paying no UK corporation tax for three years despite making £766million in profits.

The revelation emerged yesterday during fierce questioning of the company’s chief executive by MPs. NPower joins Amazon, Google and Starbucks in coming under fire for making millions in Britain while contributing little to the Treasury’s coffers.

The company’s average dual fuel bill has risen by £257 in just two years – leaving households facing punishing annual payments of £1,352.’

And yesd, much of that increase on your fuel bill is the resut of stealth taxes imposed under Blair and Brown to pay corporate bastards like Npower for NOT GENERATING ELECTRICITY.

Having said that The Coalition have done chuff all to put things right, in fact if it was up to the Lib Dems raffia mafia we would all be out in the forest collecting sticks to burn by now while each and every one of us would have a chuffing wind turbine on our head.

Under questioning from the panel of MPs, CEO Paul Massara admitted the firm had paid no corporation tax in the three years.

He explained the situation was perfectly in order because nPower had put the cost of building wind farms against its tax liability.

Labour MP John Robertson said: ‘Everyone watching these proceedings will be absolutely shocked that you are willing to stand up and say we deserve not to pay tax. If I said that, I would be crucified.

‘You have used the rules to suit yourself. I am glad I don’t get my energy from you, if I did I would be switching as soon as I left this room, I am so annoyed about it.’

Mr Massara replied: ‘We have invested £5billion in the last five years building power plants, creating jobs, creating employment and helping to keep the lights on.

‘There is no mystery to it, there is no desire not to pay tax. The fact is you are allowed depreciation for your investments. And we have been the biggest investor by a mile in the renewable offshore business.

‘If we had not made that investment, we would not have the (tax) deductibility that we would be allowed. That is a simple UK accounting rule.’

Mr Massara said the only way the UK will get the £110billion of investment needed in new power supplies by 2020 will be through tax breaks for energy firms.

Isn’t it ironic that those who scream loudest for more money wasting wind farms are the same people as wail and gnash teeth about corporate tax dodging. Good job the elitist, petite bourgeois, cupid stunts all have two faces isn’t it.

    • We aren’t talking about NPower’s technology (I was a consultant to them when they were National Power so I know most of their power stations), we’re talking about what their boss said to excuse their tax dodging. I know you are a lecturer so I try to make allowances but if you’d had a business career you would understand the importance of addressing the matter in hand.

On the matter in hand, let’s think about about that inconvenient little fact all wind fans forget? What do we do for electricity when the wind does not blow (and it usually doesn’t when we get those spells of extreme cold that have happened every winter in recent years)

Well as you can’t just press the starter button on a coal, oil or nuclear power station, it take a few days to get up to operating conditions after shutdown so we would have to keep them running as backup for when the wind drops.

Try reading one of my articles, you’ll learn something. I’m obviously never going to learn anything from you except maybe how to live in cloud cuckooo land.

      • Intermittency with wind power is a bit of a red herring, it depends on what you use them for and how you organize you’re grid and how spread out they are.

If we were foolish enough to ignore this thing called “weather forecasts” (which can give you an idea weeks in advance what the weathers going to be) and ignore these big concrete things called “dams” (which can go from nothing to full power in minutes), then you might have a point.

The Portuguese for example have been dumping most of their wind power into storage (pumped hydro) and then using that to even out the peaks and troughs. They’ve managed as a result to get a consistent 25% out of wind for the last few months, with a further 35% or so from hydro. All together (with other renewables) they’re now at about 70% output via renewables, sometimes 100% for brief periods. Ireland has similarly achieved 50% output thro a combination of hydro and wind power for brief periods.

Certainly I agree that anyone thinking wind, wind and yet more wind will solve everything is going to be disappointed. But on the other hand I know nuclear plants and fossil fuel plants (or dams for that matter) have their limits and disadvantages beyond a certain tipping point. So I would see wind power as part of a balanced energy strategy.

      • Intermittency with wind power is not a red herring. No wind, no power, simples. Why do so many people find that impossible to understand.

Comparing Portugal (pop 10m, largely peasant economy with tourism, warm, dry climate) and Britain (pop 60m, industrial and commercial economy, cool, wet climate) is rather like comparing apples and eggs. And don’t forget a big chunk of Portugal’s energy comes from wave power which is proving uneconomic because the waves are smashing up the equipment faster than anybody allowed for (it was even worse with our wave generators off Orkney which everybody seems to have gone quiet about now.)

Ireland (pop 5m) achieved 50% from wind and hydro for brief periods. And what about the rest of the time, you all shivered in the dark? I’ve already explained that you cant wind up a power station at the touch of a button so the coal oil and nukes have to keep running. Which is a stupid way to carry on.

The corporate – banking cartel are well aware that Nicola Tesla’s scalar wave technologies, are the only realistic solution to the energy crisis. Unfortunately Tesla’s proposals have been suppressed for a hundred years. Why? Because puling energy out of the air is not profitable enough for the corporate – banking cartel.

No doubt your colleagues in the physics department will tell you Tesla’s inventions are not practical – that’s the official line. Well careers would be trashed very quickly if lecturers ever challenged the othodoxy. Look what happened to Rupert Sheldrake when he said the importance of DNA was being overstated. Tesla’s inventions serve well enough as weapons as we will all see if global war kicks off soon.
