Brexit was never defined, and the word has been hijacked and defined by remainers, like T.May. But that is a complete irrelevance, because not one single person voted for brexit, the word did not appear on the ballot paper. The word on the ballot paper was Leave.
A more technically correct question would be, was it naive of you to think you still lived in a democracy? Well yes, but you do have huge mitigating circumstances.
You have to remember the context. In a democratic system, at the end of its political term, the Government must return ALL rights and powers lent to it by the electorate, unless given permission to do otherwise, by election manifesto or referendum.
When we joined the EU (don’t confuse with EEC…completely different) Rights of Law making and Governance were signed over to a foreign organisation without ANY such permission. Calls for referendums were blocked and denied for years. It was deeply immoral, VERY anti-democratic, but due to our constitution …legal.
Years later BOTH the main parties promised EU referendums to get votes. Once in power, both parties reneged on those promises once they realised what the outcome would be. (Such is the disgustingly low moral standard of our MPs and leaders.)
Eventually polls started to show a win for remain, and for that reason Cameron promised to have a referendum. (It would not have been allowed to proceed otherwise.) … In other words, in the UK we were only allowed the opportunity to vote BECAUSE we agreed with those in power… FACT.
An argument which remainers use to block the referendum, is that we are a representative democracy. But this is not the case either…
Well over 8O% of MPs were elected on a promise to honour the referendum. Which like the promises of having previous referendums, they have no intention of keeping.
So many MP’s are not representing their own manifesto and quite a lot of them are not representing their manifesto, their constituency or the UK.
They only thing are representing is the remain campaign.
So we do NOT have representative democracy. We are not allowed to have votes against the EU, and if we do, they will be made invalid. The Eurofascists have control. Just as Orwell predicted they don’t even realise that they are fascists. Orwellian doublethink and doublespeak are rife in parliament.
