Obama’s Climate Change Hypocrisy – The Arrogance Of The New Patricians

It is customary for US Presidents, when they leave office either having served two terms, been defeated in an election, or of their own volition, to fade quietly into the background. This is largely good manners, for an ex President to appear to be trying to intervene on political issues and influence events or public opinion is not only undignified, it is socially divisive.

Good manners, especially towards ‘white folks’ was never a consideration for America’s first cocksucker and arse prostitute president, Barack Hussein Obama of course, he spent most of his eight years in office trying to belittle America’s middle classes, insult key allies on the global stage and turn every political issue into a bitching session about the colour of people’s skin.

One of Obama’s great obsessions, alongside gay rights and the need to drop bombs on thirs world peasants was climate change. And though the whole global warming scare has now been exposed as a scam to enable the global neoliberal kleptocracy to steal even more money from the poor, he is still going around the world spouting about the evils of that absolutely essential atmospheric gas, Carbon Dioxide, without which there would be no life on earth.

We’ve written plenty on this in the past, but this satirical article on how Obama travels by private jet (with an escrt of military jets) and cavalcade of limousines to give speeches exhorting the poor and middle income groups to reduce their carbon footprint is well worth a read.

Obama’s Climate Change Leaves A Lot To Be Desired

by Rich Hofer, Writers Beat, 28 May 2017

Bobo Obama doesn’t know when to leave well enough alone. The former president should have done what his predecessors have done in the past, fade slowly into that good night and be quiet for a while. Instead, Bobo decided he was going to be boisterous. He was going to speak out against what he felt were injustices. He was going to call Donald Trump out when Trump did things like reverse Obama’s executive orders that made absolutely no sense to anyone with an ounce of grey matter.

And now, Obama is showing the world his true colors.

Bobo and his wife, Michelle Ma Belle, were in Milan, Italy to speak at the Institute for International Political Studies on the importance of global change warming climate or some such nonsense. And as always, taking a cue from Al Gore, Bobo concluded his speech by jumping into a CO2 laden motorcade of not one or two, but 13 cars to drive away. But wait…he wasn’t finished with the CO2 bombing of Italy! Oh, no! He had to top it off by spewing more carbon as he flew into Tuscany in not a commercial jetliner, but a private jet, and not alone.

Bobo and the Mrs. were escorted by six, count ‘em, six Italian Air Force jets on the short flight to Tuscany. Are we finished yet? Oh, no! Once on the ground, Bobo and company got back into limousines (13 of them) and proceeded to make their way to their “motel”, which by the way has 22 bedrooms for the ex-prez to choose from. The going rate? $15,000 per night.

He and Michelle Ma Belle will be there for a week. But staying in the tradition of not going retail, the Obama’s probably got a deal. The “motel” they are staying at is owned by the former Ambassador to Italy when he was in office, so he probably got a bit of a deal and foisted it off on some unsuspecting taxpayers somewhere. Hopefully it was the Italians, and not us!

This is just the latest example of the liberal left and their excuses. They want the world to change the way they live so we can “keep climate change in check”, while they spew carbon emissions all over the place. Now, if Bobo really was concerned about this…he would have taken a limo ride from the speech in Milan to Tuscany. It’s only 188 miles, and they could have covered it in three hours and seen some lovely country side. But they took a posse with them, enough for 13 limo’s in all, and a private jet with six Air Force escorts for the 188 mile ride. Yeah…they’re REAL concerned about the environment!

Carry on world…you’re dismissed!

And that just about sums up the case against fossil fuels, the elite are simply saying, “You plebs must give up your cars, your home heating, your well lit homes because, really, sustainables are no substitute for conventional fuels and we, the superior breed, are entitle to live in luxury at your expense and are no longer willing to share with pond life like you.”

Botanists Identify 28,000 Medicinal Plants That Treat Ailments from Cancer to Diabetes

Written by (ANTIMEDIA)
In recent years, the term “plant medicine” has come to be associated with psychedelics like mushrooms and ayahuasca, which are increasingly documented to provide mental and emotional relief to users. But according to a recent analysis from Kew Gardens in the United Kingdom, there are over 28,000 other plants currently being used as medicine throughout the world.

The second annual report from Britain’s Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, located in London, is the result of the research and analysis of 128 scientists from 12 countries around across the globe.

We’re revolutionizing the news industry, but we need your help! Click here to get started.

According to their findings, there are 28,187 plants “currently recorded as being of medicinal use.

The report [pdf] explains:

In many regions of the world, people still rely on traditional plant-based medicines for their primary healthcare. This is especially true for many rural communities in Africa, parts of Asia, and Central and South America, where plants and knowledge of their traditional use are accessible and affordable. In other countries, many of these traditional plant-based medicines are being integrated through regulations into mainstream health systems.”

Though plant medicines are making their way into the mainstream, the researchers note that currently, just “16% (4,478) of the species used in plant-based medicines are cited in a medicinal regulatory publication.” Even so, they note data on drugs approved by the FDA and similar agencies:

Since 1981, 1,130 new therapeutic agents have been approved for use as pharmaceutical drugs, of which 593 are based on compounds from natural sources. Thirty-eight are derived from medicinal plants. Fifteen of the 56 natural drugs registered for the treatment of cancer since 1980 are derived from medicinal plants with a long history of traditional use.”

They note, for example, that “The anti-cancerous drugs vincristine and vinblastine are derived from the Madagascar periwinkle, Catharanthus roseus in the Apocynaceae family.”

Additionally:

For example drugs based on Paclitaxel have been isolated from the yew tree (Taxus spp.), Camptothecin from the happy tree, (Camptotheca acuminata) and Podophyllotoxin from the May apple (Podophyllum hexandrum and P. peltatum).”

Further, researchers have discovered over 1,000 species of beneficial plants since their survey last year. As Yahoo News summarized, “new plants discovered over the past year include nine species of a climbing vine used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

The report said two plants, artemisinin and quinine, are ‘among the most important weapons’ against malaria, which killed over 400,000 people in 2015,” Yahoo summarized.

According to Monique Simmonds, deputy director of science at Kew, “The report is highlighting the huge potential that there is for plants, in areas like diabetes and malaria,” Yahoo reported. “One study documents 656 flowering plant species used traditionally for diabetes, representing 437 genera and 111 families,” the report explains.

It also points out that of “only five drugs developed specifically for the symptomatic treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, two are derived from plants.”

Some particularly powerful species of plants include Fabaceae (pea and bean), Lamiaceae (mint), Euphorbiaceae (spurge), Apocynaceae (dogbane), Malvaceae (mallow), Apiaceae (parsley or carrot), and Ranunculaceae (buttercup). Their key classes of compounds are alkaloids (Fabaceae), terpenes (Lamiaceae),  diterpenoids (Euphorbiaceae), cardiac-glycosides (Apocynaceae), organic acids (Malvaceae), coumarins (Apiaceae), and alkaloids (Ranunculaceae). Another highly useful plant documented in the report is Moraceae, which is used in the treatment of diabetes.

Though their report offers great promise, they highlight some pitfalls. Stressing that correct labeling of plant medicines is vital, they explain:

Product labeling is frequently misleading, with the trade name ‘ginseng’, for example, referring to 15 different species of plant, each with its own particular chemistry and therapeutic properties[10]. Substitution by a Belgian clinic of one Chinese medicinal herb (‘Fang Ji’) with another sharing the same name, led to over 100 patients requiring kidney dialysis for the remainder of their lives.”

They also point out the threat to the plants themselves.

Increasing demand for herbal medicines (particularly for species covered by pharmacopoeias) threatens wild populations of many of these plants,” they note, adding that “ the focus of world trade on relatively few species of medicinal plants leads to sustainability and conservation issues, which ultimately lead to other plants being substituted, with potential risks to human health.”

They advocate more precise scientific labeling of plants and more “clarity on which plants have or have not been studied in drug discovery programmes.”

Such approaches,” they contend, “will be hugely important in improving our ability to realise current and future medicinal benefits from plants.”

As pharmaceutical drugs continue to wreak hazardous consequences, the healing power of natural plants appears to hold great promise for humans seeking treatment without the chemical side effects of current popular medicines.

That ‘Scientific Consensus Is Back In Circulation.

The phrase ‘scientific consensus’ had been absent from my web viewing for a while but this week it has cropped up in support of various pieces of scientific nonsense, including the latest wild claims by the climate change Warmageddonist club, food fascists and those really freaky nerds at NASA who want to spend $trillions on exploring space to see if that can discover life on a planet 40 light years away. (NB:   a light year is the distance travelled in one earth year by light which moves at 186,000 miles (300,000 km) per second. At the time of writing our fastest spacecraft can attain around ten miles (16km) per second.

But people like me who rely on common sense are not allowed to question the first and second or to point out the folly of planning to undertake a project to investigate the third, because ‘the scientific consensus.’

I have lost count of the times I’ve been told on challenging some piece of pseudo-scientific dogma that “the science is settled” and when I respond by pointing out how unscientific that response  is, am told “You’re obviously not a scientist so you can’t understand how science works.”

I have even been told by a well known science wanker that “when a consensus of scientists agree that a theory is probably true, they people like you (me) should treat it as a fact.”

Well no true scientist would ever talk such complete bollocks of course, but you will find plenty of wannabes and technology geeks on the web who believe it is correct and even think that is what can be called “the scientific method.” They are wrong of course and their spurious claims are best answered by Dr. Michael Crichton:

“I want to pause here and talk about this notion of consensus, and the rise of what has been called consensus science. I regard consensus science as an extremely pernicious development that ought to be stopped cold in its tracks. Historically, the claim of consensus has been the first refuge of scoundrels; it is a way to avoid debate by claiming that the matter is already settled. Whenever you hear the consensus of scientists agrees on something or other, reach for your wallet, because you’re being had.
“Let’s be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary, requires only one investigator who happens to be right, which means that he or she has results that are verifiable by reference to the real world. In science consensus is irrelevant. What is relevant is reproducible results. The greatest scientists in history are great precisely because they broke with the consensus.
“There is no such thing as consensus science. If it’s consensus, it isn’t science. If it’s science, it isn’t consensus. Period.”

The Charge Of The Anti-enlightenment Brigade

I don’t know if many of you remember London’s Atheist Bus a few years ago. It toured the city bearing adverts that read: ‘There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.’ and was a great success[ … ] this demonstrates the Sheeple – like tendencies of those who claim they have reason on their side: the religious propagandist with the sandwich board saying ‘repent, the end is nigh’ was always the subject of jokes. Why do the opposing side now feel the need to parade high tech sandwich boards saying, “no need to repent, the end isn’t nigh’?

The role of cosmic electric currents in earth’s climate

by Tapestry

If you’ve been following the growth of the Electric Universe movement, you know that this growth is due largely to the power of a new paradigm to explain things left unexplained by conventional theory. The greatest surprises of the space age are not surprises to researchers exploring the role of the electric force across the cosmos. Nor is it surprising to see the electric force at work close to home, both in the sculpting of planetary surfaces and in the evolution of life on earth. In particular, two resources have proven most helpful in orienting newcomers to this large subject:

The Beginner’s Guide to the Electric Universe introduces the behavior of charged particles—or plasma—in space. The plasma environment of the Earth, the Sun, distant stars, and galaxies now challenges the “gravity-centric” dogma of 20th-century astronomy. The new picture of space adds an indispensable component: the role of cosmic electric currents.

The Essential Guide to the Electric Universe takes the intermediate reader into the spectacular complex of electric currents, magnetic fields, and associated electromagnetic radiation that define so much of our celestial environment. In the space sciences, gravity alone is no longer king.

Supplementing this foundational material are two regular features at Thunderbolts.info—”The Picture of the Day” (TPOD) and periodic science articles called “Thunderblogs,” highlighting the essential place of electrical knowledge in 21st-century science:

“Drought to Deluge” by Stephen Smith is the theme of the TPOD Pick of the Week. In this selection, he asks: Does the Earth-Sun connection play an electrodynamic role in “climate change”? As we take up climate issues in the near future, the electrical Earth-Sun transactions will emerge as a critical topic.

Yes, Andy Hall is back. In his latest Thunderblog, “The Maars of Pinacate, Part One.” Andy describes a volcanic field deemed “the most wasted of wastelands.” It seems this feature cries out for an electrical explanation.

Electricity cuts and power crisis predicted for Britain’s New Year Holiday

20 December, 2016

Thanks to successive governments (Labour from 1997 to 2010 and Conservative Lib – Dem from 2010 to 2015) their gullibility in falling victim to every confidence trickster who backed up an energy subsidy scam by saying, “I’m a scientist.” and their committment to supposedly sustainable but in reality intermittent energy sources for electricity,   The National Grid is failing to meet demand and “emergency power deals have become the norm,” according to a new report by a cross-party parliamentary group chaired by Grant Shapps.

Coal power station closures and the building of renewable energy plants will leave the country struggling to generate the required power supplies to feed British infrastructure and homes.

The British Infrastructure Group (BIG) believes the government’s attempt to meet climate change targets set by the EU and United Nations led to a cut back in capacity margins and extravagant price increases. The “interventionist energy policy,” Shapps believes, has left electricity supplies “dangerously small.” Shapps carefully omits to mention that the government’s only contingency plan for providing the power needed to meet peaks of demand (a sudden cold snap for example) is to spark up the thousands of diesel generators the earth loving politicians have concealed in goods containers on compounds sited around the country. Yes you read that right, diesel generators, the billions of pounds spent on wind and solar generation schemes and the billions of pounds spent on subsidising the farmers and landowners whose land the ‘sustainable’ power generators stand on have left us dependent on the dirtiest and most inefficient method of generating power to meet peak winter demand.

The report found that in recent winters the nation’s spare electricity pool went from 17 percent in 2011-12 to just one percent this year. To restore the stock, household bills would have to increase by as much as £30 a year until 2020. Government estimates predict price increases of around half of that.

“While nobody questions the noble intentions behind these ‘green power’ policies, it is clear that the unshakeable confidence of the community who swore ‘the science is settled’ was sadly misplaced and policies  designed to reduce Britain’s carbon dioxide emissions were not only wrong headed in a world that has stubbornly refused to get any warmer for almost twenty years (accoring to the ‘settled science’ we should have been frying eggs on the concrete in mid December here in northern England by now, not wondering how we are going to kep warm through the winter) but have had the unintended effect of hollowing out the reliability of the electricity generating sector,” the former co-chair of the Conservative Party said.

So to avoid major power cuts over Christmas 2017, Shapps added, the government should “work to make it profitable for private companies to invest and innovate in our electricity markets once again.”

Last year, National Grid paid nearly £40 million ($49.7 million) for emergency power. This winter, the group was given the go-ahead by the government to shell out an estimated £122.4 million. These costs are later spread out across the network and picked up by consumers in the form of growing bills.

Climate Denial Finally Pays Off

This blog has always been sceptical of the scientific case for climate change. And we admit that NO we are not climate scientists, NO we have not published research papers in ‘peer reviewed’ science journals. Of the three main contributors (all retired or semi retired) one is an engineer who still lectures in engineering and mathematics, one is a finance expert (considerably more expert that economics academics who advise governments – he managed to predict the dot com bubble bursting, the crash of 2008, the failure of Quantitative Easing and the failure of the Eurozone)and an information technology consultant who is now a writer when he feels like it.

And it looks as if, once again they have been proved right.

As part of a series of Wall Street Journal editorials showing the climate cause in mid-crackup. Holman Jenkins writes :

screen-shot-2016-06-29-at-8-13-24-am-728x415
All of us old gits at Boggart Abroad came to the conclusion that Carbon Dioxide driven Anthropogenic Global Warming was a scam from different directions. Xavier understands the mathematics and physics involved, Phil understands the economics and Ian understands how global corporations and banks operate. And between them they agree it was never about saving the planet and always about money and power.

Everyone who has supported the case for climate chane by saying, “The science is settled,” should read the novel State of Fear by Michael Crichton. Written in 2004 it projects the actions of the enviro terrorists. Particular attention should be given to Appendix 1 at the back of the book about a new scientific theory that arose at the start of the last century and how leading lights bought into it until it was proved it had no scientific basis.
