War Famine plague and all that …

It is no secret that “news” media in the developed world is owned by a few corporate empires whose ultimate owners’ are financial operators whose reach extends into manufacturing, extraction industries, big agriculture and food, healthcare and even, through networks of patronage and influence, into politics.

In terms of revenue genaerated the news and entertainment corporations are small fry but so long as they are the information source of choice for the majority these businesses punch above their weight in terms of social impact. An ill – informed population is a compliant population and the purpose of mainstream media, once to educate and inform is now to distract, deceive and direct away from the real issues towards trivialities and gossip and ensure most people are are sufficiently dumbed down and diverted from the real issues, by feeding you pointless irrelevant social trivia.

As long as we (the majority of us) are distracted, we will be unable to organize, get involved, protest or seek change, which is exactly what corporate media wants, and is exactly where they have you. You don’t think so? Answer the following questions:

We have been at war in Afghanistan for over 13 years, there are no British combat troops active now but we still have a presence; why? What are we fighting for? Who are we fighting? How many people under 35 can even find Afghanistan on a map after 13 years of war? What are the Taliban all about?

How about Iraq, America’s war? Most Americans cannot find Iraq on a world map, can you? British, European and American combat troops withdrew from Iraq but now are on the point of returning as Islamic state forces advance? Why did we go to war in Iraq and overthrow the dictator Saddam if we werren’t prepared to go the distance? Who are we fighting in Iraq? What do they want? What do we hope to achieve? Who TF are the Daesh?

How about Syria? Who are we fighting? Who are the ISIL? Who are the Alawi? Who or what is ISIS? What do they want? Are we with or against Assad? Why are we helping Al-Qaeda in their effort to overthrow Assad? how do Syriac Christians fit into the picture and what is a Syriac Christian anyway?

Let’s look at Libya? Why did we (the FUKUS axis -France, the United Kingdom and the United States) bomb it daily for seven consecutive months? Why did we engage in a regime change campaign when there was no regime in waiting to replace the one we overthrew? Why did we support Muammar Gadaffi, then help kill him? Why did our leaders allow Libya, the most prosperous state in Africa under Gadaffi to become a lawless, chaotic, failed state after we bombed them to save them from an oppressive dictator?

How about Egypt? Who is the current dictator of Egypt and why do we support a dictator? How do we support him?

How about Russia? Most people in the NATO states do not have a clue that we are now very close to a war with Russia, but then again most people never saw World War I or World War 2 coming either. Why do we now have troops in the all the Baltic States on the border with Russia? Why are we installing missiles close Russia’s border? What or where is Kaleningrad?

Where is the Ukraine in relation to the USA or EU? What is the relationship between Ukraine and Russia?

How many military bases does Russia have outside Russia? How many military bases does the US have outside of its borders?

Why did the USA spend 5 billion dollars promoting unrest and engineering a coup against a democratically elected government in the Ukraine and why did the EU support it? Why did the foul mouthed neocon US ambassador, Victoria Nuland say, and what did she mean, when she so eloquently said: “F… the EU”? Why do media continue to present Barack Obama as the peacemaker and joybringer when his administration is the most right wing and hawkish the USA has had on everything except gay related issues.

OK, we haven’t even touched on famine and plague, but do you see my point? These foreign policy failures cost billions of £$€ and continue to cost western taxpayers at a time when systemic debt and ongoing current account deficits are hamstringing efforts to recover from the 2008 economic crash and trashing jobs and lifestyles. And all the time the media feeeds us celebrity chit chat, animal stories, junk science (how many breakthroughs in the war on cancer were announced last month) and scare stories.

Switch to new media, feed your inner sceptic.

Google: I told you they were evil

Nobody who reads Boggart Blog or Little Nicky Machiavelli can say they have not been warned about how evil Google are, but if you need reminding this story from govtslaves.info has all the information you need.

“Google has managed to boost its revenues by billions of dollars this year by attacking thousands of smaller businesses who make money from affiliate programs. It does this by deliberately favoring large brands in its search results.

“This war is largely secret because very few people understand this shift. Google manages to deflect attention through publicity about projects such as Google+, or its self-driven cars — none of which are revenue generating businesses.

“Yet in its core business, under the renewed leadership of CEO Larry Page, Google has launched an incredibly aggressive strategy targeting mostly small firms. You can see how effective this has been in the following numbers culled from its financial reports.

“For example, for the whole of last year, Google’s revenues from its own sites could barely keep pace with growth in revenues from its AdSense partner network — mostly small firms.”

Artificial Intelligence: Will It Kill Human Society?
The media, the so called ‘experts’ and politicians hail every technological advance as if it will transport us from reality to a utopian paradise. but does Artificial Intelligence and related internet and computer technology pose threats to human society that far outweigh any possible advantages? Whatever, Google plan to put machines in our place on top of the food chain.

Google a step closer to developing machines with human-like intelligence

Computers will have developed “common sense” within a decade and we could be counting them among our friends not long afterwards, one of the world’s leading AI scientists has predicted. Professor Geoff Hinton, who The Guardian reports was hired by Google two years ago to help develop intelligent operating systems, said that the company is on the brink of developing algorithms with the capacity for logic, natural conversation and even flirtation.

John Kerry Calls For The Internet To Be Placed Under The Authority Of The United Nations

US Secretary of State John Kerry, speaking earlier this week in South Korea, said that the Internet “needs rules to be able to flourish and work properly.” This, according to Kerry, is necessary even for “a technology founded on freedom.” Kerry made his remarks in the context of talking about how international law is applicable to the Internet.

Protesters Gather Around Europe To Demonstrate Against Undemocratic Secret Agreement With USA

Protests against the secretive Trans Atlantic Trade And Investment Partnership (TTIP) will take place today in cities all over Europe. The deal, the terms of which will give Corporate businesses the power to sue governments and overturn any laws made by the UK Parliament (or any elected elected assembly in nations that sign the treaty) which the corporate lawyers see as obstructing their ability to steal taxpayers’ money make a return their investment, has been largely negotiated in conditions ofr such secrecy that even our Members of Parliament and other elected representatives in European Unions and the USA have not been allowed to know what its clauses contain.

That which we do know of has only reached the public domain thanks to leaks and whistleblowing.

Today’s demonstrations will be held in fifteen locations across the UK including London, Bristol, Edinburgh and Bognor Regis to voice opposition to the deal. Those against it say it could lead to the privatisation of the NHS (see below) and the removal of food safety regulations to allow the sale of produce from GM crops and chlorine washed chicken to be sold in European shops without any legal requirement for labelling to inform consumers of what they are buying.

The European Commission (Euronazis) has done its best to suppress opposition to TTIP particularly in the UK by ruling out the involvement of public services in the deal. However, the UK Trade Minister Lord Livingston has admitted to the Huffington Post that talks about the NHS were still on the table. This is due to those enemies of democracy, The Labour Party having taken large chunks of the NHS outside the public sector by setting up independent health trusts and making General (family doctor) Practices into private businesses.

Another major concern for believers in democracy is the provisions in the treaty that would enable foreign investors – for example American firms investing in the NHS Trusts privatised by Blair’s Labour government – to sue a host government if they think their profits are affected by a change in policy.

The campaign against TTIP has been actively opposed by the usual suspects, the Occupy movement, the Unions and worker rights organisations and fringe left wing groups but has also aligned these groups with nationalist political movements that have seen an upsurge in popularity in the past few years as European nations surrendered more sovereign powers to unelected bureaucrats in Brussels while in the USA there has been an erosion of powers held by legislatures of the fifty states as more laws have centralized power in Washington D.C.

The controversial ACTA (Counter-terrorism) legislation, which was booted out of the European Parliament by MEPs after millions campaigned against it, is also said to have ben shoe-horned into the agreement at the insistence of the Obama administration. Plans to compel internet providers to monitor customers’ online activity and other breaches of an individual’s privacy and hand over data to security agencies, one of the core elements of ACTA, is rumoured to be included in TTIP.

These sneaky tactics to get authoritarian legislation onto the statute books by the back door when it has been thrown out by democratically elected lawmaking bodies is something Brussels has a track record for. The unpopular European Constitution, which would have been a massive step towards the creation of a single European superstate, was repackaged as ‘The Lisbon Treaty’ after convincing ‘No’ votes in the French and Dutch referendums in 2005. Two years later, when Ireland, the only European nation constitutionally bound to hold a referendum on any treaty affecting sovereign powers, voted down the Lisbon Treaty, the bureaucratic dictators said, “Wrong, vote again.”

And to give the Irish a clue as to what they could expect if they got it wrong again, the European Central Bank (ECB ) engineered the collapse of the Irish economy in the months before the second vote.

With Members Of The European Parliament making more noise that previously and the managers of the European Union under the closer scrutiny than previously (a European Commission candidate already rejected for conflicts of interest), campaigners hope they can repeat the success of ACTA and get TTIP kicked into touch as well.

Shellshock: Can anything stop the hackers? Yes, me and you can.

Shellshock bug could be bigger than Heartbleed (Picture Source)

As a former Digital Networks Consultant I was one of the first to warn of that the path our business and political leaders were taking us on led into a wilderness of swamps, mires and quicksands.

The early viruses and malware were not that serious and really were only the equivalent of ‘tombstoning’, jumping off cliffs or bridges without first checking the depth of the water was you would land in.

The early internet (or internetworking technologies) were very secure. For a start they did not have Windows PCs attached to them. We did not have 95% of the computers running the same operating system. And we did not hve companies set up by US Government agencies such as DARPA and the CIA for the purpose of persuading us to buy systems that would allow US Government agencies such as the NSA and CIA to monitor our every move.

I could go on at length (and will elsewhere) but for now I will ask a few simple questions.

“Does anybody really believe that it was sheer brilliance that won the contract from US Government bedmate IBM to supply an operating system for the IBM PC for a spotty little nerd with no qualifications, no experience and more than a few personal hygiene issues and his equally malodorous mates. Was it a sound business decision to choose the untried MS DOS against better and already proven products from established software houses established software houses that employed professionals? And was it good luck that these nerds, having failed to deliver the system required managed to find a bunch of idiots to sell them a clunky, amateurish operating system to offer instead? And do you think it is just a coincidence that the spotty kid behind this deeply flawed and not-fit-for-purpose operating system was the son of a CIA director.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

The latest shock horror existential threat to our world, thanks to our reliance on a single network and a single technology is the Shellshock bug which hackers may be able to exploit to grab your credit card details, empty your bank accounts or bring business and commerce to a standshtill.

This is not some recent development by a bunch of malignant dwarves who spend all their lives in basement apartments plotting to take over the world unless the United Nations gives them ONE TRILLION DOLLARS. Oh no, the flaw which the Shellshock but exploits is contained within a piece of software called Bash, which is used by the UNIX and Linux operating systems and internet servers around the the world and IT companies have been aware of it for over twenty years.

The problem really is that so much of our commercial activity has been pushed onto the internet, so much of our social interaction is now online that we are all vulnerable.

BTW I don’t mean to suggest that all information technology professionals are unwashed idiots, the vast majority I knew were perfectly reasonable people who washed their armpits, changed their underwear every day were good at their jobs and could see a system with single channel motherboard architecture was never going to be safe when connected to a public network. It was the generation of fuckwits who thought playing DOOM and reading PC Wanker magazine made them computer experts that are responsible for the mess we are in.

All we need do however is stop using the internet for business until such time as the corporate bosses recognise they have some responsibility for the security of users and stop using the net solely as a means to drive costs down and shed staff. None of the threats that are reported every few months would be very difficult to fix if we did not depend on a system that is like a house with no doors.

WAKE UP

I told you so, now WAKE THE FUCK UP.

Have you heard of TTIP? No?
Then you have some reading to do. TTIP (the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership) a so called trade pact between the USA and Europe, which is being negotiated in strictest secrecy, would hand global corporations the power to sue governments and overturn laws (such as consumer protection laws) they feel are obstructing their ability to make profits.

A new People’s Movement (Ireland) pamphlet explains how the EU-US trade and investment treaty threatens democracy, would attack workers’ rights, erode social standards and environmental regulations, dilute food safety rules, undermine regulations on the use of toxic chemicals, rubbish digital privacy laws, and strangle developing economies.

Needless to say all political leaders in nations involved and all major political parties are fully supportive of it. Individual elected representatives and associations of small businesses and employers are waking up to it and even mainstream media are starting to understand it would prevent them printing anything certain corporate interests did not like no matter how much proof existed that the story is true.

WAKE UP
