It’s Good To Know Someone Is Getting The Message

Memo: From Nick Hanauer

“To: My Fellow Zillionaires

You probably don’t know me, but like you I am one of those .01%ers, a proud and unapologetic capitalist. I have founded, co-founded and funded more than 30 companies across a range of industries—from itsy-bitsy ones like the night club I started in my 20s to giant ones like Amazon.com, for which I was the first nonfamily investor.

I tell you all this to demonstrate that in many ways I’m no different from you. Like you, I have a broad perspective on business and capitalism. And also like you, I have been rewarded obscenely for my success, with a life that the other 99.99 percent of Americans can’t even imagine.

But let’s speak frankly to each other. I’m not the smartest guy you’ve ever met, or the hardest-working. I was a mediocre student. I’m not technical at all—I can’t write a word of code. What sets me apart, I think, is a tolerance for risk and an intuition about what will happen in the future. Seeing where things are headed is the essence of entrepreneurship. And what do I see in our future now?

I see pitchforks.

At the same time that people like you and me are thriving beyond the dreams of any plutocrats in history, the rest of the country—the 99.99 percent—is lagging far behind. The divide between the haves and have-nots is getting worse really, really fast. In 1980, the top 1 percent controlled about 8 percent of U.S. national income. The bottom 50 percent shared about 18 percent. Today the top 1 percent share about 20 percent; the bottom 50 percent, just 12 percent.

But the problem isn’t that we have inequality. Some inequality is intrinsic to any high-functioning capitalist economy. The problem is that inequality is at historically high levels and getting worse every day. Our country is rapidly becoming less a capitalist society and more a feudal society. Unless our policies change dramatically, the middle class will disappear, and we will be back to late 18th-century France. Before the revolution.

And so I have a message for my fellow filthy rich, for all of us who live in our gated bubble worlds: Wake up, people. It won’t last.

If we don’t do something to fix the glaring inequities in this economy, the pitchforks are going to come for us. No society can sustain this kind of rising inequality. In fact, there is no example in human history where wealth accumulated like this and the pitchforks didn’t eventually come out.”

This week it was announced in the USA that running water will be cut off to thousands of homes in the once prosperous car building city, Detroit, Michigan, because occupants can’t pay their bills.

Form one perspective that’s what you get for electing a cocaine addicted rent boy as your President because of the colour of his skin. From another it shows how far the USA has slipped from being the world’s richest and most powerful nation to being a third world shit hole where people struggle to get a drink of clean water.

We must make sure we don’t go the same way. What can we do? Oppose every move towards further integration with Europe and support decentralisation and repatriation of sovereign power.

Oppose corporatism as much as you can afford to by buying from independent shops, supporting independent businesses and avoiding wherever possible the shoddy crap sold by corporate retail chains and manufactured by fr eastern sweat shops owned by global corporations.

We are not yet as enslaved at Americans or the people of southern Europe but there a re plenty of people connected with the LabLibCon who would like us to be.

And if you want to know a reliable purveyor of pitchforks (made by a small manufacturer in Rotherham) just send me a personal message.

Competition Is A Sin – Get Ready To pay For Internet Content

“Competition is a sin,” wh’d you think said that? Stalin? Chairman Mao? Karl Marx?

Wrong, it was businessman and the world’s first billionaire John D. Rockefeller. Hang on Little Nicky, isn’t capitalism all about competition? You might well ask.

Well yeah, but you see Rockefeller was never a capitalist; nor are Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, the Rothschild dynasty, George Soros or any of the Bilderberg gang. They’re Corporatists and as Benito Mussolini said, corporatism is fascism.

Rockefellers maxim has been a rule of conduct for large corporations for well over a hundred years and it seems will soon govern how you receive your internet signal and how much you pay for it.

Comcast, the largest mass media and communications transnational corporation in the world, announced it will absorb Time Warner, the world’s second largest media and entertainment conglomerate.

The “friendly” merger will “combine the America’s top two cable providers into a colossus that could reshape the U.S. pay TV and broadband industry if it clears regulatory hurdles,” reports Reuters. It will also have a knock on effect for European networks and other non – US users because most of us access data from their servers or route our connections through their routers at times.

And lets face it, such hurdles as there are can be swept aside like matchwood by the global banks and corporations that already have arsemongers like the rent boy President Barack Obama, suck up artists like Cameron and clueless goons like Hollande, as well as the third world crooks and pimps who run the UN and other international bureaucracies in their pockets.

Now we start to see what that anti – freedom, sovereignty crushing carve up the Trans Pacific Partnership was really about (remember the TPP would give megacorporations with the morals of sewer rats power of veto over laws made by elected parliaments) and why the EU are so desperately keen to abolish independent member states and drag us all into a Federal European Superstate run by unelected bureaucrats in Brussels.

Don’t say I haven’t warned you.

UPDATED 16 Feb 2014

In view of the above merger, which has obviously been known about for some time even though it has not made mainstream media, Russia Today carried an interesting report:

Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande will review plans to build up a trustworthy data protection network in Europe. The challenge is to avoid data passing through the US after revelations of mass NSA spying in Germany and France.

Merkel has been one of the biggest supporters of greater data protection in Europe since the revelations that the US tapped her phone emerged in a Der Spiegel news report in October, based on information leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.

Earlier, France learned from reports in Le Monde that the NSA has also been recording dozens of millions of French phone calls, including those of the French authorities. According to the report, in just one month between December 10, 2012 and January 8, 2013, the NSA recorded a total of 70.3 million French phone calls.

Meanwhile, according to the Snowden revelations, the German Chancellor’s mobile phone has been on an NSA target list since 2002 and was codenamed “GE Chancellor Merkel.” The monitoring operation was allegedly still in force even a few weeks before US President Barack Obama’s visit to Berlin in June 2013.

Washington has denied it monitored Merkel’s personal phone, insisting that its surveillance practices are focused on threats to national security, namely terrorism. Merkel, who grew up in East Germany, where phone tapping was common practice, compared the NSA’s spying to that of the Stasi secret police in the former German Democratic Republic, and accused the US of a grave breach of trust.

According to polls, the Germans have lost confidence in the US as a trustworthy partner, and a majority of Germans consider Edward Snowden a hero. It’s believed that his revelations have hit Berlin particularly hard since Germany is not a member of the so-called “Five Eyes’ intelligence alliance which includes NSA-equivalent agencies in the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, exchanging intelligence with each other on a regular basis.”

Real British Engineering, Real Japanese Jobs?

This week Gordon Brown’s government (perfoming their party piece Not Waving But Drowning) announced exciting news for trainspotters. The current generation of inter city trains, aka Thomas The Tank and friends are to be replaced by whizzy, shiny new Japanese trains. These are to be built by Hitachi Corp. and funded by a Private / Public finance scheme, you know, where we the punters stump up the up front investment and a bunch of thieving capitalist scumbags trouser the profits. The financiers that will be invited to take part include the few British Banks that are not yet bankrupt.

It is ironic is it not, that in the very same week the government’s spin, graft and corruption supremo Lord Mandy said “What the economy needs is less financial engineering and more real engineering.”

This seems like another case in the New, Super NuLab camp of the right hand not knowing what the even more right hand is doing. It’s all perfectly in line with NuLab’s recession beating Privatise The Profit, Nationalise The Loss policy of course.

As usual Boggart Blog was ahead of the game but at least Fast Train To Futility shows mainstream media are on the case with this one.
