Do You Take Photographs? You’re Probably A Criminal

I’ve been going on a lot about the Trans – Atlantic Trade Partnership (TTIP) and how it is part of a plan to extend the takeover of the USA by Corporate Nazis to the rest of the world.

One of the main planks of the TTIP is the establishment of a framework for enforcing US patent and copyright law around the world. “how is that bad, surely writers, musicians and such deserve to earn royalties and inventors deserve to be paid for use of their innovations don’t they? You might well ask.

I agree, and as a writer I know I deserve far more that the occasional pittance I receive from people who use my work. But the TTIP and its Pacific twin the TPP are not about writers and artists, or inventors and innovators, they are about governments, global corporations and bankers.

What am I talking about. Well things like Nestle trying to obtain patent on fennel seeds which have been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years. Or this even more bizarre patent application which has, it seems, been granted by courts in the USA.

Taking a photo against a white background? Amazon owns the patent on that

from Blacklisted News

Today a photography blog unearthed another strange development in America’s ongoing patent train wreck: Amazon was recently awarded the intellectual rights to taking pictures of people in front of seamless white backgrounds.

Critics of the deal from the tech and photography worlds are split on what they see as the bigger affront: the gullibility of the US Patent and Trade Office, or the genius of Amazon’s patent lawyers.

The patent, which you can read here, was originally filed in 2011, and has the fittingly sparse title, “Studio Arrangement.” It takes five pages of dense text to explain the photographic innovation at issue. There is a diagram that, TechDirt points out, “pretty much looks like every photo studio in the history of photo studios.”

Corporatism Is Fascism, Democracy Is Dead

“Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power.” – Benito Mussolini.

benito mussolini - italian-fascist-leader

The revolving door of useful idiots swapping positions from private industry to government and vice versa is pandemic. It goes on in  every economically important industry, but it most blatant in those industries closely linked with government, but especially banking, energy, defence equipment, food, medicine, prisons, and infotmation technology (a.k.a. surveillance.  It’s fascism, pure and simple, how can we say that? Well we have it from one of the highest authorities on fascism.

We’re already well aware of the revolving door at the Pentagon and Ministry of Defence to keep the war machine going, in fact it has reached such levels in the USA even the government owned mainsteam media are talking about it:

In Britain all three living former Prime Ministers have lucrative sinecures with banks and defence contractors while the board membership of major finance, industrial, media and technology companies reads like a roll call of governments over the past thirty years. In the other direction the names of senior civil and military servants who have moved to the private sector are not so well known but a little research reveals the route is a two way street.

The cosy relationships established between corporate executives or public service managers and their former colleagues and employers are not in the public interest. If fact those relationships often become a conduit through which taxpayers money is channeled into corporate coffers with little being received in exchange.

Guardian comulmnist Glenn Greenwald writes on the media’s reluctance to challenge the ;National Security justication for fascism:
“Hayden is a partner in the Chertoff Group, a private entity that makes more and more money by increasing the fear levels of the US public and engineering massive government security contracts for their clients. Founded by former Homeland Security secretary Michael Chertoff, it’s filled with former national security state officials who exploit their connections in and knowledge of Washington to secure hugely profitable government contracts for their clients.”

Greenwald points out that CBS conveniently forgot to mention that Michael Hayden, mentioned in the video) was the person most responsible for implementing spying on Americans and that he now benefits financially from expanding that policy.

In 2006, the New York Times won the Pulitzer Prize for having revealed that the NSA was eavesdropping on Americans without warrants. The reason that was a scandal was because it was illegal under a 30-year-old law that made it a felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison for each offense, to eavesdrop on Americans without those warrants.

Although both the Bush and Obama DOJs ultimately prevented final adjudication by raising claims of secrecy and standing, and the Obama DOJ refused to prosecute the responsible officials, all three federal judges to rule on the substance found domestic spying to be unconstitutional and in violation of the statute.

The person who secretly implemented that illegal domestic spying program was retired Gen. Michael Hayden, then Bush’s NSA director”. That’s the very same Michael Hayden is now frequently presented by US television news channels as an industry authority on surveillance technology and an expert on the current NSA controversy. The nature of his military experience and pivotal role in implementing that illegal warrantless eavesdropping program are never referred to.

The phrase Conflict Of Interest does not appear to be fashionable these days.

Most people still view democracy, or rule according to the will of the majority as somehow opposite of fascism. Yet democracy has become so corrupted by corporate money, both democracy and fascism are now simply means to the same end, control. Democracy sounds nice in theory, but in practice the voters have very little say in public discourse, laws, or regulations; and when we get to vote, it’s up between two politically identical entities whose campaigns encourage people to vote on the basics of ethnicity, religion, social class or sexual preference. Identity politics is not fascism but it is fascism’s best friend.

Ghandi, Buddha, science tits and some common sense,

Recently I have found it hard to be amusing on this blog. The news being reported by mainstream media is a parody of what is actually going on in our world, and it is very difficult to parody a parody. Likewise when we try to satirise the antics of government supra national bureaucracy and corporations that are obviously telling us lies and we are then attacked by ‘useful idiots’ who are eager to tell us these same fascistic polictical and commercial organisations are wholly benign and we simply are not qualified to question them, the satirists task becomes impossible.

Earlier I was looking at a thread on an article about climate change which a science tit had claimed the notorious and totally discredited ‘hockey stick’ graph was right after all. One regular commenter in that forum who claims to be a science tit said, “The hockey stick was always right, the science is settled and only right wing nutters are interested in trying to pick at the theory until it unravels. A consensus of scientists agreed Mann’s hypothesis was correct and so it must be accepted as fact; that is how science works.”

Um, no it’s not actually. Science works by sceptics picking at the fabric of a theory until it unravels. If the hypothesis has any worth it does not unravel, then it can be considered a scientific fact.

I’m constantly reminded these days, when I encounter those people who wave their educational qualifacations at us or tell us “I’m a scientist,” as if that will put us in awe of their superior intellect as they parrot the propaganda of the govrnment – corporate alliance of a scene in The Wizard Of Oz (not my favourite film I hasten to point out)

Dorothy and her companions, the cowardly lion, the tin man and the straw man have arrived in Oz to ask the Wizard to grant their wishes. The straw man asks for a brain. The Wizard whose magic, as any fule kno, relies on smoke and mirrors, tells him, “If you want people to admire your intelligence you don’t need a brain, all you need is a diploma.”

how true those words have become in our modern, crazy world. Still I can take comfort from the words of Gandhi:

‘When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it – always.’ ― Mohandas K Gandhi.

And if you want to discover the truth, The Buddha has some wise advice:

Believe nothing you hear or are taught without first testing it against your own experience and common sense.

Human Meat Found In Food On Supermarket Shelves

No, it isn’t a belated follow up to those horsemeat in supermarket burgers stories but it will make you think twice before buying a burger from one of those vans near a pub at closing time.

The horse meat fiasco has prompted health authorities around the world to look a bit more deeply into what else might finding its way into foods we causually pick up from supermarket shelves.

A South African research team commissioned to look into the content of food intended for humans have just found traces of human tissue in products sold for for public consumption.

The issue was revealed to the South African parliament, almost as a side note, during meat inspection briefings on Tuesday. A University of Stellenbosch professor and his team conducted a microbial analysis that revealed traces of human elements, but said that slaughterhouse workers sometimes cut themselves . . . or other things . . . which could lead to the findings. What other things? Put chunks of dead mother-in-law in the mincer. I know funerals are expensive but FFS…

The professor told MPs “If I walked into a factory and the sample I randomly selected to test was a meat sample of which the person de-boning the meat had just picked his nose and then touched the meat, I would get a totally different microbial reading,”.

Mmmm, snot pies, an old Lancashire favourite … delicious with fava beans and a good Chianti. Beyond the findings themselves, the story brings up the global hot-button topic of the moment: Exactly what the fuck are those fascist food corporations putting in the food we going to supposed to eat.
