Former Greek Minister Varoufakis Exposes EU Failure On Coronavirus

As uncertainty continues over how best to deal with the coronavirus pandemic and the crisis deepens throughout Europe, economist and former Financial Minister in Greece’s short lived, Eurosceptic Syriza government Yanis Varoufakis delivered an incisive critique of how utterly wrongheaded the EU’s response to the spread of the pandemic has been.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel DiEM25 last week, Varoufakis said: “The other day there was a eurogroup meeting. That is a meeting of the European Union’s finance ministers of the countries that are using the euro.

“They decided that coronavirus poses a clear and present danger of a massive recession in Europe. They said it is a highly significant threat to European economies, So much so that the urgency was so great that they decided to do absolutely nothing.

“They decided they are going to monitor the situation and watch.”

Mr Varoufakis noted: “The eurogroup, the EU and in particular the eurozone are terribly structured.

“They are on autopilot.

“They simply follow particular rules that cannot be followed without racking our economies. It is a reflection of a system that has been created in order to prevent governments from acting on behalf of society.

“That is if you want the ‘neo-liberal kernel inside Europe’.”

Mr Varoufakis added: “They are talking about doing whatever it takes within the fiscal compact, which means nothing because the fiscal compact is like an iron cage austerity from which you then cannot escape.

“And you need to escape from an iron cage of austerity if you are going to do anything about the green transition or about dealing with with the wholesale recession that the coronavirus is going to bring again to Europe.

“A Europe that has fallen behind the rest of the world as a result of such stringent austerity package that increased in 2010 and spread out like a cancer out of control throughout the European Union.”

In an interview on Sky News this morning, the former Governor of the Bank of England Lord Mervyn King echoed Mr Varoufakis’ claims and noted that Britain should be very grateful it is not in the eurozone right now.

He said: “What we can take comfort from here I think is that the Bank of England and the Government are working very closely together.

“I think you can see that around the world nations are responding to this. People have to accept that tremendous sacrifices are made for other people. And the community in which we do that most naturally is the nation state.

“That is not something they have created in the euro area.

“They failed to create a fiscal union.

“Now, someone will hope that the crisis we are facing will lead them to do that but they have not got the political legitimacy to do that.

“We should be really grateful that we are not in the euro area and that we can coordinate our responses directly between Central Bank and Government here in Britain.”

Yannis Varoufakis has been a long time critic of the European Hierarchy in Brussels and was one of the few politicians in member states in the single currency system (The Eurozone”) to try to stand up to the central bureaucracy and defend the interests of the Greek nation’s citizens who had elected him. The reponse from The Bastards of Brussels was to force Varoufakis out of office and out of politics and to oust the left of centre, Eurosceptoc, Syriza paty government and install a government of appointees pledged to implement such draconian austerity measures on Greece, the nation was driven back to third world levels of poverty.

Hundreds attend protest against Fianna Fail/Fine Gael coalition in Dublin

A few weeks ago the Irish General Election returned an inconclusive result as many voters rejected the traditional power duopoly of Finaana Fail and Fine Gael, both pro – EU, globalist parties, in favour of anti EU, nationalist parties with Sinn Fein (the political wing of the IRA being the main beneficiary. We predicted then that a bid by Europhile Prime Minister Leo Varadkar to hold on to power by taking his Fine Gael party into coalitioon with their traditional rivals Finanna Fail was doomed and would finish Varadkar, a Brussels puppet, and possibly lead to Ireland following the UK out of the European Union.

It looks as if the first part of our prediction is about to be realised already.

from The Irish Daily Mirror

Hundreds attend protest against Fianna Fail/Fine Gael coalition in Dublin city centre

“We’re here to show that we don’t want a Fianna Fail/Fine Gael government’
Hundreds of people came out to call for real change and protest at the possibility of a Fianna Fail and Fine Gael coalition on Saturday. People Before Profit’s Brid Smith TD, Homeless Action Ireland and Extinction Rebellion were among the groups that gathered at the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin. Protesters, holding the banner “Stop the Fianna Fail-Fine Gael Stitch Up – March for Real Change” walked from Parnell Square to O’Connell Street.

Ms Smith said voters called for change in the recent General Election – not another Government led by Leo Varadkar’s Fine Gael or Micheal Martin’s Fianna Fail. Ahead of the demonstration, she added: “We’re calling it a stitch-up between Fianna Fail and Fine Gael and the reason we’re using that term is because the very clear sentiment of the recent election was not Fianna Fail or Fine Gael.

“They got roughly around 43% of the vote, which together is significant, but it doesn’t give them majority rights. “But the sentiment of the election is that we need real change – on housing, on health, on the cost of living, on reversing the pension age.”

Meanwhile, spokeswoman for Homeless Action Ireland Leah Daly said the wishes of half a million voters are being ignored. She was previously homeless with two of her children for two years, and forced to live in emergency shelter even though she was working for a private senior care company. Ms Daly added: “We’re here to show that we don’t want a Fianna Fail/Fine Gael government.  READ FULL ARTICLE >>>

Spain Arrests People Traffickers And Drug Smugglers Crossing From North Africa in Speedboats

by Arthur Quinnell, 7 March, 2020

Spanish police helicopter buzzes traffickers’ speedboat off the coast around Malaga (Picture credit: Central European News Agency )

Spanish police announced the arrest of 90 people suspected of being involed in an organised crime network that operated lucrative smuggling rackets that moved both people and drugs across The Strait Of Gibraltar from Africa to Europe.

The Civil Guard released a statement today stating that the smuggling network regularly moved people and drugs across the Strait from Ceuta, a Spanish enclave in northern Africa to The Costa del Sol in high powered RHIB (rigid hull inflatable boat) speedcraft of the type often used to move illegal immigrants from Libya to Italy or Turkey to Greece.

The Spanish national law enforcement agency said their investigators found evidence that 11 speed boats operated by the gang had carried a total of 269 people and over 10,000 kilograms of hashish from Africa to the Spanish mainland. The ring used radar systems and lookouts stationed along the coast to avoid detection, the police alleged. The advantage of the semi inflatable boats is they can operate in very shallow water.

The migrants moved by the racketeers were allegedly detained by the traffickers at a remote location in Spain until their families paid 5,000 euros ($5,600), a senior police officer said. The Civil Guard did not say when the arrests took place but revealed that another 39 people are under investigation in the case.

The police agency said officers involved in the operation against trafficking had so far confiscated over 10 tons of hashish, 26 boats, 29 vehicles, 250,000 euros ($282,000) in cash, and 12 firearms, during the investigation.

Ceuta is one of Spain’s two northern African enclave cities on the Mediterranean coast. Spain´s southern coast has become a major entry point for drugs and illegal immigrants into Europe since the mass migration crisis of 2015 when Italy, Greece and the Balkan States defied Brussels to tighten border controls. Since a far left government seized power in Spain, the Spanish government has taken a very lax line on preventing illegal immigrants posing as refugees and asylum seekers entering the EU though Spain’s leaky borders..

EU Borders at Breaking Point as Migrants Shipped to Frontier

This blog has always tried to point out to the lefties who screech about “open borders” that the European Union commitment to free movement of Labour only applies to citizens of EU member states moving withing the Union. They are closed minded and bigoted on the subject of course, “open borders” facilitating the movement of hundreds of millions of uneducated third world peasants to the developed nations is one of the sacred cows of their ideologically driven agenda and practical considerations like how do nations cope with the burden of feeding, housing and providing social benefits the extra, mostly unemployable people when its population is increased by 50% in a short time while the economy remains stagnant?

from Breitbart Europe

Tensions on Europe’s borders with Turkey are rising as thousands of migrants are brought to the frontier on unmarked buses and state-owned railways.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country’s borders to Europe were open for migrants some days ago, ostensibly because his country could not cope with an increased flow of refugees from Idlib, Syria.

Yet the move follows years of threats made by Erdogan to punish Europe for not furnishing his Islamist government with money and political support by opening Turkey’s borders — behind which are 3.5 million or more migrants waiting to travel to the West.

Erdogan has repeatedly expressed frustration with Europe’s failure to fully back his military operations in the Syria to carve out a Turkish zone of control and prop up rebels linked to al-Qaeda, which has resulted in deadly clashes between his forces and the Russian-backed Syrian government and its Iranian and Iran-linked allies.

There are now thousands of migrants packed into the so-called no man’s land on the Greco-Turkish border, with the Greek authorities struggling to repel the reportedly mostly male migrants seeking to breach the European Union’s common external border.

Despite Erdogan’s suggestions that the migrants are recent refugees from Idlib, this does not appear to be the case, with the migrants coming from all over Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia.  Continue reading

German Economy Slumps, Key Indicators Fall, Underlines Eurozone Economic Decline

With zero growth in the German economy over the final quarter of 2019 as manufacturing remained in a slump and exports fell, the wisdom of Britain’s middle and working class voters choice to leave the failing European Union was vindicated again. The German figures highlight the many challenges facing the Eurozone, which is hamstrung because it consists of 19 different economies (eith of them economic basket cases,) all needing very different solutions.

German’s state statistics agency reported today there was zero growth in the fourth quarter and a mediocre 0.6 percent increase for the whole year. And that paltry figure has only been achieved with the help of financial jiggery pokery from the European Central Bank (ECB)

Germany´s troubles are central to the economic difficulties of the 19-country eurozone economy and the European Central Bank, which has for several years been trying mask the reality of flagging growth and inflation with negative interest rates and newly printed money. Germany has been a manufacturing and export powerhouse in recent years and has propped up the rest of the sigle currency zone, but with German manufacturing in the doldrums and exports rendered uncompetitive due to increased costs imposed by ineffective and pointless “green” policies imposed on member states by Brussels, those areas have been sluggish and only debt funded consumer spending has kept the country out of recession. But debt funded spending is only ever a short term solution.

Carsten Brzeski, chief economist at ING Germany, told a German Financial Newspaper, “In general, the German economy remains stuck between solid private consumption and a paralyzed manufacturing sector.”

Slowing global trade and the uncertainty caused by the U.S.-China conflict over trade have been one problem. Another is structural change in industry, particularly the auto business, where companies must sink billions into developing electric cars and new services based on smartphone apps, both to meet regulatory pressure for lower greenhouse gas emissions and to head off competition from from the tech sector.

Brexit has terrified ‘Brussels bubble’ – German insider

The EU elite “lost faith in their own appeal and abilities” following the Brexit referendum vote and the surge in support for nationalist parties. Italy most likely member to quit the EU and demand independence after Brexit -shock poll

23:01 (11 pm) 31 January, the United Kingdom is no longer part of the European Union.

Throughout the day, the last on which the UK will be a member of the European Union, more than 7,000 people took part in an online, and completely meaningless except as a gesture, poll which asked which nation they thought would be next to leave the 27 member bloc.

As Boris Johnson prepared to address the nation at 10pm while Nigel Farage led a Brexit bash in Parlianment Square, outside the Houses of Parliament to help Britons celebrate new era in which our national traits of creativity, enterprise and determination will no longer be constrained by the activities of self – important French bureaucrats, militaristic Germans obsessed with rules and regulations and fat, drunken Belgian CHIMPS (Completely Hopeless In Most Practical Situations,) whose only talent is for being obstructive.

The result of the poll (which as I said is just for fun,) was that the Italians are most likely to next want out of the “corrupt club” of the EU, with Poland another high contender to demand an exit. Aa we have reported recently, rising political movements in Spain, Finland, Denmark and Netherlands are also gaining support for their campaigns to quite the wannabe EUSSR.

Of the 7,076 people who took part, 1,939 (28 percent) said Italy, 1,179 (17 percent) said Poland and 854 (13 percent) said the Netherlands.

The fourth-most likely country to vote Leave in an EU referendum is Hungary (691 votes) ahead of Denmark (670 votes), according to the poll.

Seven percent (538) of respondents said France would be the one to watch in the near future.

Today the EU says goodbye to Britain, tomorrow the world will say goobye to the corrupt, undemocratic, illiberal European Union.

Marianne leading citizens to the barricades (Picture: frenchmoments )
The original painting, Liberty leading the people, by Eugene Delacroix is displayed in the Louvre museum, Paris. I don’t know how the goddess of Liberty came by the name Marianne in French folklore but Marianne embodies the spirit of France and is a hugely significant symbol of French democracy.

I have reported regularly in my news blog, The Daily Stirrer, on the Yellow Vests protests against cost of living increases caused by green policies, high taxes and and general civil unrest due to the disilluionment of citizens with the government of French president Emmanuel Macron. The Yellow Vests have been mostly low key, with occasional outbursts of violent outrage, but the latest protest which is mainly about Macron’s planned pension and retirement reforms, which will force French people to work longer and drive many less well – off retirees into penury according to the protests leaders, have taken the tensions between government and people to a higher and more dangerous level. The general strike, which has hit public transport in France particularly hard, started in early December, held through the Christmas period and appears to be gathering momentum rather than weakening.

The French, as a people, have always had a strongly anarchic streak and tend to take you the streets to protest at the most trivial annoyances. Such protests are usually concluded by noon however, when the entire nation stops what it is doing to enjoy a good luch, and a glass or three of wine or beer, after which they all make friends again and go home.

This time however, the demonstrations and protests fel rather different and darker than the usual light hearted letting off of steam by waving placards, singing revolutionary songs and torching a few cars, a kind of Gallic ritual intended to remind politicians who get above themselves that “we are many, you are few.” After a few million dollars or Eurosworth of damage has been done the government would usually cave in and give the demonstrators most of what they were demanding.

French unions are not as militant as their British counterparts nor as well organised as the Germans is not highly unionized, but their strength in France lies in the hold they have onm the public sector, which includes passenger transport by road, rail and air, seaports, food distribution, education and healthcare. Public sector unions are traditionally belligerent, with roots in 1930’s communism or socialism, and along with trade organisations such as the Fermers Association, have a stranglehold on key sectors of the economy.

What makes the current protests a bigger threat is that the boy President, Emmanuel Macron has managed to antagonise just about every interest group in the country. A former investment banker, Marcon has all the arrogance associated with that profession combined with the small mindedness off a bean counter. And that abrasive combination does dot play well to the anarchistic attitude of many French people. The entire country appears opposed to President Emanuel Macron’s plans to modernize the nation’s crazy-quilt pension regulations that confer special privileges on favored groups of workers. Rail workers, for example, a particularly pampered bunch, can retire with close to full pay while in their 40’s. Ballet dancers enjoy similar benefits. Average workers can retire at 62. Macron wants to change retirement to 64, citing the longer life-span of today’s workers, and to consolidate the nation’s 42 separate retirement plans. This does not seem unreasonable when you consider Britain’s retirement age is 66 years.

However France’s labor movement is up in arms, responding with more outrage and fury than it did when the Germans invaded in 1940 when the habit of clocking off at noon for a long lunch earned them the sobriquet of ‘Cheese – eating surrender monkeys,’ from US President George W Bush after the French government of the day refused to support one of his wars.

In the 1940s of course, orinary French people thought there would be little difference between being governed by a bunch of intellectual socialists who had a penchant for sitting around discussing impenetrable philosophical propositions and a bunch of National Socialists with a collective penchant for wearing extremely shiny boots. They have not forgotten how wrong they were on that one and are not going to let Macron create a replical of the collaborationist Vichy government with the higher authority this time being a bureaucratic dictatorship in Brussels.

Macron’s attitude to the general strike is, “I’m the president, you all have to do what I say.” Unless he backs down however, the transport unions will blockade oil refineries and petroleum distribution centers, crippling most road transport just as rail unions have crippled the rail network. These in turn will affect food distribution, emergency services and airports. Ports will also be targeted.

France is heading for industrial warfare between the state and its citizens. Similar strike action and mass demos brought down the government of Gen Charles De Gaulle in 1968, an earthquake that still shakes French society and haunts its leaders. Looming over this local difficulty however is the gigantic, tottering shadow of the European Union. With the main opposition to Marcon coming from Marine Le Pen’s nationalist and anti EU party Rassemblement National, which would certainly follow Britain’s lead and quit the EU if victorious in the next election. Riding on a wave of nationalistic feeling, anti EU parties have come to the fore in Italy, Germany, Poland and Spain, which accounts for all the EU’s large population nations.

Having been a major supporter of political integration for EU member states throughout the eras of its five most recent presidents France has been right alongside Germany in pushing for the creation of a federal European superstate ,(sorry, did you think I was being frivolous when I compared Marcon’s government to the World War 2 collaborators of the Vichy government?) an idea that plays well to the metropolitan elitists and media luvvies in Paris but is about as popular as a fart in a lift with the general public.

France must slash taxes now, or face ongoing civil unrest. According to the French prime minister, this is the main message from an unprecedented three-month “great debate” in the wake of anti-government “yellow vest” protests. Announcing publication of the findings from two million online contributions and 10,000 hours of town hall debates around the country, Edouard Philippe said on Monday there was “huge discontent” in the country. Astronomical levels of taxation was one of the prime concerns, alongside unemployment, immigration, and surrender of national sovereignty to the European Union.

Macron Isolated After More High Profile Resignations. Pressure Mounts On French President

On top of the Yellow Vests debacle, which is now destabilising France as the anti – government protests continue, a string of resignations from the tottering government of President Emmanuel Macron has prompted Gérard Larcher, leader of the French Senate to warn Macron that his authoritarian tendencies were partly to blame for the civil unrest crisis and political instability that have weakened his presidency.

Amsterdam Gridlocked Again As Dutch Farmers Protest EU Green Laws

The protests against EU globalism and the unofficial appointment of Swedish baby troll Greta Thunberg as head of European environment policy continue to grow and become more disruptive. Last weeken it was France that bore the brunt of citizens anger, today it was Amsterdam and The Netherlands.

In a protest similar to previous ones in Germany and Netherlands, Amsterdam was gridlocked with throusands of farm tractors being driven slowly to disrupt traffic flow in the Dutch capital in a zero-notice strike following the Dutch government voting to pass new, highly unpopular green legislation that will damage the already struggling agricultural and construction sectors.

While the protest was peaceful and good humoured, with Dutch Newspaper De Telegraaf reporting that farmers gave out hot coffee to the police officers on duty in the cold weather, armoured vehicles manned by the Dutch government’s military police were seen deployed at likely flashpoints as the tractors got closer to the parliament buildings. Protests in France against green laws that will be ruinous for farmers and transport businesses have frequenntly become violent.

The protest clearly took the police by surprise, and its planning took place in secret, with organisers reportedly referring to it as a “surprise attack” on Amsterdam.

The “surprise attack” came in response to the government passing an EU law enforcing with draconian penalties strict limits on nitrogen emissions, with similar laws being passed by the democratically elected governments of all European Union member states in response to the diktats of unelected bureaucrats in Brussels on green policies. Farmer’s groups dispute the way emissions are measured and claim their work is not as damaging as governments claim, and regardless, as their protest banners state without farming there can be no food.
The smooth – face pen pushers in their luxurious offices haven’t thought that one through have they?

Particularly supportive of the farmers case is Anti – EU politician Geert Wilders, who while notorious for his opposition to the Islamification of the Netherlands and Europe, is a populist and stands with voters against the European Union. He called the farmers “heroes” Wednesday and said he supported them against the anti-nitrogen “frenzy” that would destroy their livelihoods.

As the government of Poland has today stated its desire to leave the EU it can only be a matter od time before this cultural Marxist attempt to merge the free and democratic member states into a Soviet style federation crumbles.

France’s General Strike Holds Past Le Weekend

France is never far from the news these days for alt_news sites like this one. As we watch the European Union unravel as a result of policies imposed on member states aimed at turn 28 (soon to be 27) member states into a single, federal bureaucratic dictatorship run by a committee of faceless civil servants in Brussels, there is a mobid fascination in seeing hoe the three most rabidly federalist and politically correct members, Germany, France and Sweden fall apart as a result of governments’ embracing EU globalist politicies ahead of addressing the needs of their own nations.

Paris was once again at a near standstill on Monday as the general strike called by unionists and activist groups to protest against the reforms to the pension system planned by the government of President Macron, which unions and economists say would leave pensioned in poverty, closed communter line trains, buses and subways for a fifth day.

Macron, a deeply unpopular president from the beginning of his term of office, faces  one of the toughest weeks yet of his presidency, that has already seen France rocked by terrorist attacks and life disrupted by the “Yellow Vests” protests against high taxes and EU immigration policies. Now his government’s planned redesign of the complex French pension system is in danger as prolonged civil unrest could force withdrawal of the policy.

Macron and his advisers failed to foresee the problems likely to result from  combining 42 different retirement plans into one capable of delivering a more equitable, financially sustainable system. Unions claiim the move s an attack on the French way of life even though the government does not plan to change the current retirement age of 62 at this time.

With people living longer it is inevitable the retirement age must rose at some point.

The SNCF national rail network warned travelers to stay home or use “alternative means of locomotion” to get around Monday instead of thronging platforms in hopes of getting the few available trains running. Mysteriously, they cited safety concerns as justification for their advice rather than admitting few trains would be running.

Because of the lack of trains and other forms of public transport, he national road authority reported more than 600 kilometers (360 miles) of traffic jams at morning rush hour around the Paris region – up from 150 kilometers (90 miles) on an average day.

Traffic problems were worse on Monday than when the strike started last week, because many French employees managed to work from home for a couple of days or take time off. But businesses cannot continue to run on that basis for long if the strike continues.

Gabriella Micuci, an office worker from the Paris suburb of Le Bourget, walked several kilometers in cold rain before reaching a station on one of the two Metro (subway) lines that are automated and don’t need drivers. Other commuters used bikes or electric scooters.

“I left home earlier than usual, I thought I was going to be able to catch an early train but not at all,” Micuci told The Associated Press. “It´s a real catastrophe, people are becoming even more violent, they are pushing you.”

Encouraged by the biggest nationwide protests in decades, unions plan renewed protests on Tuesday and hope to keep up the pressure on Macron’s government to withdraw the retirement reforms.

Macron summoned Prime Minister Edouard Philippe and other top officials to a summit meeting on Sunday night to create a strategy for dealing with the crisis.

The prime minister will reveal the government’s plan on Wednesday, but this is only expected to urge people to defer retirement.

The reform is central to Macron’s vision of transforming the French economy though considering his open doors immigartion policy which has seen unskilled, illiterate migrants flood into the country, what he plans to transform it into is unclear, a fairy princess maybe?. Government ministers insist the current system is unfair and financially unsustainable, while unions say the reform undercuts worker rights and will force people to work longer for less. Macron’s main political opponent, Eurosceptic Marine Le Pen, and her Rassemblement National party point out that the immigration policy is unfair and financially unsustainable.

Seeking to head off public anger, Macron asked veteran politician Jean-Paul Delevoye to hold months of meetings with workers, employers and others to come up with recommendations for France’s new retirement plan. Delevoye is presenting his conclusions to unions on Monday. A similar exercise of colsultations at grass roots level with Yellow Vest protestors only served to deepen the division between the ruling elite and the people.

Germany sliding into ‘dangerous’ anti-Europe hysteria warns top economist

Isobel Schnable – worried about anti EU mood in Germany

As Germany’s economy continues to stutter one of the country’s top economists has warned the country is desending into “anti-Europe hysteria” amid growing criticism in the country of the European Central Bank (ECB) and surging support for the Eurosceptic, anti – immigration AfD Party.

Marcel Fratzscher said the entire European Union would be damaged by the backlash against the ECB’s austerity policies and the cost to Germany of propping up the single currency. Mr Fratscher is chief of the German Institute for Economic Research in Berlin and has also been an executive of the Eurozone’s central bank. He told UK financial newspaper The Financial Times: “Germany is sliding into a dangerous anti-Europe, anti-ECB mood, which threatens to damage the ECB’s credibility, the Euro an ultimately all of Europe.”

The warning comes less than two weeks after Chancellor Merkel’s ruling coalition suuffered heavy defeats intwo regional elections and Germany’s newly appointed ECB board member Isabel Schnabel called on her fellow economists to tone down their scathing analysis of the ECB’s performance. Ms Schnabel, an economics professor at the University of Bonn, predicted a crisis for the Euro if Germans did not take a step back to reflect on their country’s direction. Unfortunately for EU fans in Germany, voters have had years to reflect on the direction in which Merkel is leading the country and have decided they do not like it.

In an attempt to appeal to other German economists Schnable tweeted: “Dear fellow German economists, if you are wondering what you can do for Europe: Please help to dispel the harmful & wrong narratives about the ECB’s monetary policy, floating around in political and media circles. These threaten the euro more than many other things.”

This is rather spurious as nobody takes any notice of economists because they are always wrong. And the voters are in no mood to listen.

Unfortunately, the majority of Germans are opposed to further political and economic integration of EU member states, the country is politically polarised and with left and right more opposed to the idea of working with each other to bring down the government than they are to allowing Merkel’s centrist coalition to blunder on with the country politically paralyzed, it seems things can only get worse. In another blow to The Chancellor, her main coalition partner, the Social Democrats (SDP) this week lurched to the left by electing a far left candidate as its leader.
