Public backlash as BBC ponders dumping nationalistic songs from Proms ‘in solidarity with BLM protests’

When news leaked out of taxpayer funded British broadcaster The BBC that certain patriotic anthems, including Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory, which are traditionally performed on the last night of BBC Proms concert season, may be axed from this year’s program.

The Proms or Promenade concerts to use the formal name are a season of musical performances given every summer in London’s Albert Hall, culminating with the tumuluous and tongue in cheek Last Night, a concert that in contrast with much of the highbrow stuff performed throughout the season, is a light hearted celebration of music and its ability to break down barriers and bring people together. It is as much a fancy dress party for 5000 people, who in disparate small groups are there to enjoy themselves. As well as some lighter classical pieces the music performed inclusdes bawdy folk songs, jaunty sea shanties and a chance for the audience to sing along with patriotic songs of the past. This audience participation is one of the most popular features of the concert and closes the season with the songs Rule Britannia, Land Of Hope And Glory, Jerusalem and God Save The Queen.

And nobody takes it seriously. I regularly watch the televised performance and in any year, as the audience wave national flags and sing Rule Britannia, a song about the British Navy’s dominance of international trade routes, people wave national flags, not just The Union Flag, the Cross of St. George, The Scottish Saltire or the Red Dragon of Wales, but The Stars and Stripes, Canada’s Maple Leaf, the tricolours of France, Germany and Italy, Australian Flags, the flags of India, Pakistan, Japan and other Asian nations, African national flags and others. And when the medlody shifts to the rousing Land of Hope and Glory those flags still wave. Land of Hope and Glory is usually interpreted as the ultimate British patriot song but maybe those people singing their hearts out and waving their own national flags are interpreting it a little differently, as I always have:

Land of Hope and Glory, mother of the free,
How shall we extol thee, who are born of thee.
Wider still and wider, let thy bounds be set,
God who made the mighty make thee mightier yet.

Well we all hope the land we call our home will be a symbolic parent of free people, and there is nothing offensive about asking how shall we praise this land. By war and conquest, or by spreading the ideals oif tolerance and openmindedness to promote peacefuk coexistence? Wider still and wider let thy bounds be set? Surely that can only be intended to glorify imperialism, you might suggest. But it can, can it not, be taken as a reference toour cultural horizons. Let’s learn from the whole world and encourage them to learn from us. And the last line? Well I don’t do God, but though this has been interpreted as a reference to military and economic might, it could also be taken as a reference to cultural strength, make us a stronger community so that we lose our natural fear of ‘otherness’ and preserve our own culture and values while respecting other, but not surrendering to the unreasonable demands of extremists.

It only takes a little creative thinking to render that short lyric inclusive and likely only to offend those who are determined to be offended on behald of the majority who simply do not care.

The most genuinely troubling of the patriotic songs that, though patriotism has been unfashionable for at least fifty years, have become an integral part of each year’s Promenade Concerts’ grand finale, Rule Britannia(sic) is the most overtly patriotic of the Last Night favourites though the phrase ‘Britons never ,never, never shall be slaves does not relate in any way to the Atlantic slave trade even though the song originates from the decades at which that trade was at its height. Correctly titled Rule, Britannia! the comma is all important especially now as linguistics professors in the more ‘woke’ university faculties are claiming grammar and punctuation are racist and oppressive. Composed by Thomas Arne in 1744 for a musical pageant on the reign of King Alfred, often mistakenly credited with uniting the various kingdoms of England under a single ruler, but still one of our greatest historical figures because he fought off who fought off the Viking threat by building up the English navy and extended the influence of Christianity to the pagan kingdoms of The Danelaw (the northern part of England ruled by Scandinavian Kings.

The belligerent lyrics touched a nerve because they chimed with the aspirations of mid-18th-century Britain, which was poised to become a mercantile empire based on sea power and was also constantly at loggerheads with France. This is where thone commas in the original title and fist line become important: “Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves!” – meaning, if you don’t rule the waves, and fast, France will crush you.

This year however the jovial mood of the Last Night of the Proms may be spoiled by interference from the appallingly self righteous do – gooderfuckers of the far left, many of whom work for the BBC.   the Times on Sunday has reported these moralistic pokenoses are mounting a campaign to have songs like Rule Britannia, Land of Hope and Glory and possibly the Scottish Hogmanay song Auld Lang Syne banned on the grounds that they are offensive (though who Auld Lang Syne could possibly offend is hard to grasp, apart from the self – elected internet spelling police, Americans who, unable to tolerate English  (i.e. correct) spellings of words like colour and favourite, will cetainly have a massive problem with medieval Scots.

 And at midnight, as one year passes and another is born, after a few celebratory drinks, it makes perfect sense.

The official excuse for dropping this feature is that COVID 19, Social distanccing and blah blah means there will be no audience to sing along, but when sports events have been played out in empty stadia, the BBC had no problem about dubbing the soundtrack with audience noise from past events.

Part of the reasoning is that coronavirus restrictions significantly limit the size of the orchestra and the number chorus singers that will be able to safely gather at the Royal Albert Hall, the newspaper explained.

But there is also a feeling among some of the organizers that songs from the glory days of the British Empire would be inappropriate in a year when Black Lives Matter protests are rocking nations on both sides of the Atlantic. In particular, Dalia Stasevska, the principal guest-conductor from Finland, is reportedly a strong supporter of the BLM cause, who is “keen to modernise the evening’s repertoire”.

WTF right has a Black Lives Matter supporter to interfere in a British cultural event. This person should be told to stick to the job they have been hired for. Start bringing politics, particularly the toxic politics of the far left into The Proms and in a few years there will be no proms. And it will not be COVID – 19 keeping paying punters away but the sheer boredom of a program selected for political correctness rather than musical excellence.

The COVID Cultural Car Crash Continues In Slo – Mo

Another much hyped easing of the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown restrictions comes into force today, giving live indoor performances the green light. After five shuttered months, venues can reopen their doors tp paying customers – provided they limit the number of people coming through them, ensure all performers and production crew observe proper social distancing, impose a one-way system within the venue and place ticketholders several seats apart.

It may be possible to perform stage plays  with actors scattered about and a a two-metre void between them, but musical theatre? What about all those big chorusline numbers and crowd scenes, as when the Parisian communards go to the barricades in Les Mis. And rock gigs, essentially sweaty, close contact affairs will be a joke. No less so orchestral or choral music. A properly socially distanced symphony orchestra will take up so much space there will be now room left for an audience.

In live performance atmosphere counts for so much. Who wants to sit in a socially distanced, half-empty theatre or auditorium? How many theatres can break even when audience numbers are limited to 25% of normal capacity. Add Covid-compliance costs and they will be better off staying closed Few, most probably. The Government may perceive this move as a long-awaited lifeline to entertainment and the arts; in reality it seems more like a sleazy cop out; a way of stopping the funding given to businesses unable to open during the Covid crisis without accepting responsibility for the bankruptcies, job losses and closures and letting as the bastions of our cultural and social life crumble away while we the punters look on horrified, but prohibited by the hought Police and the great fear and panic generator from supporting those businesses look on helplessly.

Whether a business “can” open now or not is not a question of whether it can trade viably: as we have already seen with pubs, the conditions demanded by agencies of The Deep State (the civil service and the armies of advisers, academics and consultants who shape policy, make it almost impossible to trade profitably and in many cases to trade at all. As the first Super Saturday has shown, staying closed remains a less costly way of going bakrupt than trading at a loss and piling up more debt money for many restaurants and bars than reopening to a handful of socially distanced visitors. Eat Out to Help Out was a catchy slogan for a policy that, designed to pump a little life into the increasingly corpse-like hospitality sector, was about as wrong headed and completely useless at it could have been, unless of course it was covertly intended to hasten the demise of those businesses. With numbers of paying customers way down and layoffs way up how can eating and drinking venues survive?

Same goes for entertainment and the arts. Musicians like my son have not been alble tp play gigs since March, same for comedians, magicians etc. There have been 5,000 theatre job losses in the last month; the National Theatre, which has axed 400 employees – casual workers, always first to fall through the cracks – will stage its first socially distant performance in “late October”. A £1.5 billion pot has been promised to museums, theatres and music venues – a drop in the rapidly forming cultural abyss. If the biggest players are struggling to keep their heads above water, there is little chance for anyone else.

I remember another ‘threat’ to our lives – the ‘threat’ allegedly posed by Saddam Hussein and his terrible Weapons Of Mass Destruction, prior to the Iraq invasion.We were told that, despite the curious massing of allied ground troops all in one location just to the south of the Iraqi border, the big issue, as Tony Blair explained, was that he was supposed to be concealing weapons of mass destruction that he could unleash on British Territory, among others, within 45 minutes. Tony Blair actually said on live TV that Saddam could stay if only he would give up his WMD. No talk then of his killing of his own people – perhaps back then it was understood that he only killed Iraqis who wanted him dead and actually, barring the marsh Arabs, he was popular with most Iraqis because his regime, through brutal to its opponents, ran a decent welfare system, thus using oil revenue to buy popularity. And despite all the arguments of the day, the UN pleas for more time, and French opt-out, the allies proceeded to invade Iraq, bombing Bagdad and killing 100,000 innocents, with the stated intention of trying to kill Saddam, [whilst not being prepared to execute him if he was caught].All because of his alleged WMD which Blair still insists were there though they have never been found.

Then, at the time, an awkward question was asked. “If Saddam actually has WMD, why wouldn’t he use them right now, when his capital city is being bombed and his country being invaded, with the intention of killing him, and after his son being killed? Hasn’t he now got the perfect justification for fighting back if he can? What is there for him to lose?”

And the only answer was a PR exercise in rebranding.

WMD became WMD ‘programmes’ and Saddam’s killings of his own people was suddenly brought forward as if Regime Change to avenge them had been the objective all along. It is not hard to see see similarities in the thinking behind the lockdown measure now being imposed on us with the lockdown being imposed on us. Commentators who take a rounded view of society have warned since lockdowns were first announced that the long term economic effects would cause more death and suffering that had we pursued a course of protecting those known to be vulnerable and letting the rest ride out an edpidemic of what is, in over 90% of healthy people exposed to it, at worst a minor illness and in the majority of cases completely asymptomatic.

Yet despite this knowledge government’s, led by their scientific advisers, continue to dream up excuses for prolonging our misery. For example, the mandatory wearing of masks in public places is being extended despite reliable scientific evidence that when we are outdoors the chance of being infected or infecting another person are almost zero, despite several prominent virologists and epidemilogists questioning the effectiveness of masks, and despite the facts that the majority of deaths have occurred in people over 65 with pre – existing serious health problems.

Are we really to believe that destRoying the most powerful economies on the planet is really a price worth paying in order to extend the lives of a few thousand terminally ill or extremely old people by a few months at best?

No wonder more and more people are subscribing to the conspiracy theories suggesting the whole thing is a carefully planned bid to abolish democracy and establish a totalitarian world government.

Barmpot Sinead O’Connor Converts to Islam, Becomes Shuhada’ Davitt

One hit wonder and general barmpot has once again given us all a belly laugh with her bizarre antics.

Sinead who scored a worldwide hit with her 1990 single “Nothing Compares 2 U” has undergone a public conversion from Catholicism to Islam, sharing her progress to the Twitter platform, reports The Irish Post.

Writing online, the musician announced that she had converted to Islam, chronicled getting her first hijab, and posted a video of her singing the Islamic call to prayer.

Shuhada’ also posted an image in imitation of the Nike tick logo which implored followers to “wear a Hijab. Just do it.”

The Irish Post reports:

O’Connor, who last year changed her legal name to Magda Davitt, said she had ditched the Catholic Church for good in a message to fans on Twitter.

The 51-year-old was previously ordained a priest by a breakaway Catholic sect, the Irish Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Church, in the late 1990s.

Amazon & Silicon Valley Masters of Universe Push Governments To Nationalize Music Industry

Amazon is leading a well-funded and well organised Silicon Valley campaign to force governments to nationalize the music industry, thereby creating a system where the government props up favoured corporations — such as Amazon — to be beneficiaries of and have control over, while also profiting from, music production.

The Music Modernization Act, which already been prsented in both Houses of the US Congress would create by law, if passed, a “collective” that pays the various beneficiaries of of public funds. The major problem with said “collective,” according to critics, is that it would be run by the government, specifically the U.S. Copyright Office, making it prone to cronyism, corruption, and misappropriation of intellectual property.

And if it becomes law in the USA you can bet the global media corporations will not be long before they are pushing for a similar law in the European Union, Britain, Canada, Australia and Japan just for starters. The good thing here is that such a proposal is not likely to become law as long as Donald J Trump is US President. Blunt reponse to a bigoted, elitist Labour tosser.

The singer James Blunt (yes I know what his name rhymes with) has hit back at Labour MP Chris Bryant, calling him a “classist gimp” and a “prejudiced wazzock” for comments suggesting that Blunt only made it in the music industry because he was from a privileged background. In the strongly worded letter, Blunt reveals how his upbringing actually worked against him in the industry, and how producers requested he adopt a regional accent.

In an interview with The Guardian, Bryant suggested Blunt had only been successfulk in the music business because he went to boarding school. By the same logic Bryant could have said to himself, I’m not going to criticize James Blunt, he used to be in the special forces, he’s so hard his farts could kill me.

Instead, the nasty, elitist, Labour shite continued to belittle the achievements of people who had the benefit of a kind of education no longer available in state schools, i.e. one where you learn stuff instead of being bombarded with politically correct propaganda for thirteen years.

Bryant continued his attack on ‘posh’ people by blaming them (instead of the politicized education system) for the number of retards churned out by state schools.

“I am delighted that Eddie Redmayne won [a Golden Globe for best actor], but we can’t just have a culture dominated by Eddie Redmayne and James Blunt and their ilk,” he said. “Where are the Albert Finneys and the Glenda Jacksons? They came through a meritocratic system.”

Hmmm, another leftie who should think before opening his mouth. Abolition of selective education has been a Labour sacred cow for years but Albert Finney (Salford Grammar) and Glenda Jackson (West Kirby County Grammar, Wirral Merseyside) both benefitted from the evil elitist grammar schools that gave so many people the kind of leg up in life that just isn’t available from the comprehensive propaganda factories.

but there were plenty of very talented and successful people emerged from the secondary Modern school system, getting their qualifications through further education after leaving full time schooling. People mature at different rates, excel in different ways and have different education needs.

So Bryant should be aware there are no Albert Finneys or Glenda Jacksons coming through because the dumbed down, one-size-fits-all system drags the brightest down to the level of the mediocre … And yes I did, an elite, private Grammar school.

To his great credit James Blunt bashed off a very funny letter to smug bastard Bryant. Here it is in full:

You classist gimp. I happened to go to a boarding school. No one helped me at boarding school to get into the music business. I bought my first guitar with money I saved from holiday jobs (sandwich packing!). I was taught the only four chords I know by a friend. No one at school had ANY knowledge or contacts in the music business, and I was expected to become a soldier or a lawyer or perhaps a stockbroker. So alien was it, that people laughed at the idea of me going into the music business, and certainly no one was of any use.

In the army, again, people thought it was a mad idea. None of them knew anyone in the business either.

And when I left the army, going against everyone’s advice, EVERYONE I met in the British music industry told me there was no way it would work for me because I was too posh. One record company even asked if I could speak in a different accent. (I told them I could try Russian).

Every step of the way, my background has been AGAINST me succeeding in the music business. And when I have managed to break through, I was STILL scoffed at for being too posh for the industry.

And then you come along, looking for votes, telling working class people that posh people like me don’t deserve it, and that we must redress the balance. But it is your populist, envy-based, vote-hunting ideas which make our country crap, far more than me and my shit songs, and my plummy accent.

I got signed in America, where they don’t give a stuff about, or even understand what you mean by me and “my ilk”, you prejudiced wazzock, and I worked my arse off. What you teach is the politics of jealousy. Rather than celebrating success and figuring out how we can all exploit it further as the Americans do, you instead talk about how we can hobble that success and “level the playing field”. Perhaps what you’ve failed to realise is that the only head-start my school gave me in the music business, where the VAST majority of people are NOT from boarding school, is to tell me that I should aim high. Perhaps it protected me from your kind of narrow-minded, self-defeating, lead-us-to-a-dead-end, remove-the-‘G’-from-‘GB’ thinking, which is to look at others’ success and say, “it’s not fair.”

Dark, sultry and mysterious Jaqui Bisset took it even further, saying in a an interview that young women as a whole are showing off too much. “Girls today are so attractive and sexy, and they show themselves off in such an obvious way, men feel that they are in a sweet shop.

“I feel that this obsession to be ‘hot’ is more prevalent than ever it was in my youth. It’s not, ‘I want to be charming and magical and romantic and beautiful’. It’s ‘I want to be hot’. “In other words, ‘I want men to want to screw me’.”

Jaqueline Bisset may have a point. Every town centre in Britain is inundated with young girls in crop tops, mumble pants (you can see the lips move but you can’t tell what they’re saying) and skin tight shorts that show half their arse shorts. And there is more than a grain of truth in that line “Girls running round with no clothes on, trying to borrow a pound for a condom,” from “I predict a riot” by The Kaiser Chiefs It is beyond doubt that there’s more flesh on show than ever before.

There can be no doubt that the easy availability of so many young women these days has helped our moral guardians in their quest to eradicate prostitution from the streets but are amateur slappers really preferable to pros?
One wonders also what the long term psychological effects of behaving like horny, adolescent males will have on young women. In my experience women who do behave like that find it difficult to form stable relationships and seldom lead happy lives. I should say here that I am not religious and by no means morally opposed to pre or extra marital sex but surely it is wrong for men to use women as a masturbation aid? And it does not seem very feminist or egalitarian to me. I know that feminists and stupid, neo Nazi lefties are convinced that womens’ consciousness is wired in the same way as mens’ and only repressive social values have prevented women from behaving like unpaid whores in the past.

Like most things the ‘left’ believe, it is so stupid and detached from reality it is beyond comtempt. It is the kind of thinking that led Labour politicians in big towns all over Britain to turn a blind eye to sexual abuse on an industrial scale of vulnerable young girls.

A series of casual, emotionally disconnected fucks has become the replacement for an emotionally fulfilling relationship, and Hollywood, the television industry and the music business seem to be committed to pushing the idea that people can treat their genitals as toys in the way Aldous Huxley predicted in his novel Brave New World.

Eurovision Bearded Lady, A Victory For Leftist Hypocrisy

What a gay day, as the wonderful Larry Grayson used to quip. The bearded transvestite who won Eurovision has inspired much ribald humour, mostly outside the M25 it has to be said, while the hairy testicled ladies and limp wristed eunuchs inside the tarmac border of the the land of metrosexuality seem to think the ever more risible Eurovision Song Contest, by choosing a wierdo winner has struck a blow for … erm, something.

And of course the very best way to wind up lefties is to take the piss out of one of their politically correct darlings. So we had a field day with Conchita Wurst and his superfluous sausage.

Actually what it struck a blow for was hypocrisy. While media luvvies blubbered about how wonderful it was that “the people of Europe could unite behind such a brave contestant who dared to be different, some nations who thought their entries had had a rough deal were less than happy. And rightly so, if the bookies hadn’t stopped taking bets on who would win as soon as the bearded transvestite was announced, I would have placed a substantial wager on the bloke in a frock for the simple reason that in the Left’ Liberal Progressive Brave New Weird we live in, the behaviour of those creative and imaginative media types is utterly predictable so bearded lady with a dick could not possibly lose. Unfortunately William Hill, Ladbrokes, Corals, Paddy Power, Victor Chandler and Fred Done all knew this too.

Great isn’t it, how the luvvies who claim intellectual and moral superiority over those who are not reality challenged with always behave as a herd.

Conchita said as she accepted the trophy . ‘We are unity and we are unstoppable’. (Unity? George Orwell called it something else.) Just as a matter of interest and because I know there are some people labouring under the misapprehension that the winner is decided by popular vote, WRONG! Its 50/50 public vote and panels of media luvvies experts. The Poles, who won the popular vote by a distance while the panel vote was unanimous, as if they had all been given instructions if you know what I mean possums. Some blabbermouth in Poland leaked that fact today.

I reckon we should all boycott the BBC and put the fuckers out of work, they’ve been taking the piss too long. But then I’ve been lobbying for us to pull out of the Eurovision fiasco for thirty years or more. Calling it a song contest is fraud.

One of the saddest things I have seen on the interweb of Sheeple for a long time was a post yesterday from a comedian who did very well in the 70s and 80s by presenting himself as a working class hero and man of the people. Even though Mike Harding is from a considerably poorer part of Manchester than the one I was born in, and grew up in the Lowryesque streets of Crumpsall where my family moved to green and pleasant Shropshire, in his comedy and music gigs Harding talked about shared experiences of 1950s childhood and sixties adolescence especially the agonies of adolescence because we moved back to Manchester when I was fourteen.

One would think then that somebody like Mike Harding would understand the attitudes of the working class. But no, like so many working class heros he has sold out the the politically correct luvvieocracy of the media and showbiz. There he was on his facebook page, assuming his faded celebrity gave him some kind of authority to tell people what to think, sneering at a UKIP candidate for expressing the view that working class people are sick of the media banging on about homosexuals rights and what a bigoted lot of buggers the masses are, when actually what the working class want politicians and the medias to talk about are things like jobs, immigration, the cost of living, immigration and jobs in that order.

And of course the media and politicians just take a patronising, paternalistic stance: “those things are to complicated for you oiks to be bothering your bigoted little heads with,” they say (well I’m papaphrasing.

Well I live in east Lancashire and I can tell Mike Harding that the opinion expressed by the UKIPper he is sneering at, that dislike of ‘the homosexual community’ is a view that has held sway for a long times and continues to do so.

Good to see then that voters have flicked a very big V sign to Mike Harding and the other media luvvies and in response to the smear campoaign UKIP’s poll rating has risen.

Wealthy, superior luvvies might not be able to think for themselves but the working class voters obviously can.

Pete Seeger was one of my heroes in the sixties (well starting from the late 1950s I guess), his witty songs of social comment appealed to the being that was emerging from childhood into free – thinking, anti – authoritarian adultery. I think him for one of my great love affairs too. Thanks to his music kindling an interest in folk clubs that I met beautiful Linda, fifteen years older than myself, proto – Goth (or perhaps hangover from the beatnik era), and a better educator than I could have found in any university (she gave me my first joint and my first B.J.)If by chance you read this Lin, yes I do still think of you very often.

Pete Seeger was a natural successor to Woody Guthrie, a pure voice raised in support of freedom and the rights of the individual, a man who instinctively mistrusted government and all politicians and, right up to the end of his life, had no time for the pseudo – liberal, crypto – facist left that is asiduously working to turn us all into mortgage and debt slaves. They might claim to share his values but all their claims to love gays, blacks and other minorities are exposed as hypocrisy by their very obvious loathing of the values and traditions of the working classes (Left wing intellectuals have always despised the masses they claim to love)
