Did Xi Jinping Deliberately Sicken The World?

Authored by Ben Lowsen via TheDiplomat.com,

PRC moral turpitude forces us to consider the unthinkable…

We often ascribe a basic level of humanity to even the cruelest leaders, but People’s Republic of China leader Xi Jinping’s actions have forced us to rethink this assumption. Although the emergence of the novel coronavirus now known as SARS-CoV-2 was probably not due to China’s actions, the emphasis that its authoritarian system places on hiding bad news likely gave the disease a sizable head start infecting the world. But most ominously, China’s obsession with image and Machtpolitik raises serious questions about its lack of moral limits.

At some point the Chinese Communist Party learned of the epidemic and made a decision to hide its existence, hoping it went away. Exposés in Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post and the Chinese mainland’s Caixin show that the information that did flow out of China early in the crisis did so only because of the courage of individual Chinese people in the face of government repression. People in the Wuhan epicenter, however, began to get wise — and scared (here and here) — by the end of December 2019, forcing their government to say something. The authorities gave the impression of a nontransmissible disease already under containment. We know now this was entirely false, likely designed more to ease civil unrest than protect the people.

The mayor of Wuhan even suggested that the central government prevented him from revealing details about the epidemic until January 20.

Considering the first public announcements came out of Wuhan on January 1, we can assume that Xi had a sense of the danger prior to that … Continue reading >>>

UK Govt Spent £16m on Two Million Chinese-Made Coronavirus Tests that Didn’t Work

The British government reportedly spent £16 million on two million coronavirus home test kits from two separate Chinese companies, none of which work.

The New York Times claimed on Friday that a laboratory at Oxford University found that the tests, intended to be rolled out as home kits, were insufficiently accurate at detecting antibodies. The American newspaper alleged that half a million from one company are now in storage and the other 1.5 million from the second Chinese firm have also gone unused. The tests were manufactured by AllTest Biotech and Wondfo Biotech, both of which claim that their products met European Union (EU) standards.

Following complaints from the British government that the tests were useless, both Chinese companies attempted to blame British officials for misunderstanding how the tests worked, with Wanfo Biotech claiming that the test for only to be used supplementarily for patients who already knew that they had the virus.

A spokesman from the Department of Health and Social Care told the newspaper that the government had ordered the smallest batch the vendors would sell, and it would seek to recuperate taxpayers’ money for the faulty medical equipment.

It is unclear if these tests are the very same batch of millions of faulty Chinese-made tests that the British government admitted to having bought at the beginning of this month … Continue reading >>>

The Timeline Of WHO’s Cover-Up Exposed

by Peter Svab via The Epoch Times,

The World Health Organization (WHO) is facing a flurry of criticism for its response to the CCP virus pandemic, and much of the problem can be attributed to the growing influence the communist regime in China has on the organization.

Critics mainly point out that the WHO was too slow to recommend travel restrictions and some other preventive measures, and also that the agency accepted information from China at face value, despite numerous red flags.

While China experts were sounding alarms about a coverup, the WHO continued to praise China’s response and never warned the world that data coming from the regime was suspect.

WHO, an agency of the United Nations, has long been swayed by Beijing’s political preferences. Its current head, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, is a former member of a Maoist group in Ethiopia.

As The Epoch Times previously documented, China has been increasing its power over U.N. institutions for years. Beijing’s clout has now gone so far, it undermines WHO’s basic functions, such as providing timely and accurate information about the world’s health situation.

Case in point: the CCP virus.

The CCP virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus, broke out in the central Chinese city of Wuhan around November 2019, before spreading across China and the world.

As of April 14, there are some 2 million confirmed cases of the virus, which causes the disease COVID-19. Almost 130,000 deaths have since been attributed to the disease worldwide.

The WHO has said that Chinese authorities first informed it about the outbreak on Dec. 31, 2019. While that would have been a golden opportunity to mitigate the spread of the virus worldwide, the WHO conveyed none of its information to the world that day.

It appears that only one country had its ear close enough to the ground at that point to respond meaningfully—Taiwan.

By Dec. 31, the island nation off the coast of mainland China had already started monitoring travelers coming on flights from Wuhan. Taiwan authorities also told the WHO that day that Taiwanese doctors had learned from their mainland counterparts that health care workers had been falling ill with the mysterious new virus … Continue reading >>>

Coronavirus lockdown: Cure worse than the disease?

Coronavirus in India (Picture: Deccan Times)

Without doubt, the lockdown imposed on the nation on March 24 was needed, even if it could have been better planned and the nation given sufficient notice. It has saved lives by containing the likely spread of the virus. It is time now to seriously consider winding down the lockdown in some fashion, rather than extending it or tightening it. The cost to the nation of the total lockdown may be higher than the benefit if we extend it. This becomes apparent when one compares the Coronavirus-related

deaths in India so far with those in the US and European countries.

The lockdown has already resulted in untold hardships to the poor of India. For the middle class, it is only a question of inconvenience. Some 94% of the Indian labour force work in the informal sector and most have problems meeting the daily basic needs of food.

Financial and other help extended by the government, although it came late, and by NGOs and activist philanthropists, have gone some way in helping some of them get

extended by the government, although it came late, and by NGOs and activist philanthropists, have gone some way in helping some of them get over the hardships.

But we have failed to assess how the lockdown has affected those in urgent need of medical care for diseases far worse than COVID-19. In addition, there are those who might have suffered because of depression as a result of having been confined to their

homes, cut off from friends and relatives. Most of our worries have been focusing on the likely impact on our current and future economic prospects.

Boris Johnson’s Stand-In Backs Up Trump On China: “We’ll Have To Ask Some Hard Questions”

by Tyler Durden, Zero Hedge

Every Buzzfeed-reading lib who immediately dismissed reports about the real provenance of SARS-CoV-2 as just another White House smoke bomb should take note: UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, the man who is Britain’s de jure leader while Boris Johnson convalesces, just backed Trump up.

During a press conference on Thursday evening, a reporter asked Raab about Trump’s comments and the Fox News report claiming the virus leaked from a biosafety level 4 lab at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, likely when an employee was accidentally contaminated. We’ve been raising questions about the virus’s provenance and sharing this ‘conspiracy theory’ for months – we were even deplatformed for it – now, Raab believes that Beijing should furnish an explanation.

Raab replied to a reporter that the UK and the rest of the global community will need to “ask hard questions about how it came about and how it couldn’t have been stopped earlier.”

Because that’s the real point: if these claims are indeed accurate, this would almost certainly prove that instead of focusing on containing the virus, Beijing panicked, proceeded with an (ultimately botched) coverup, and then unleashed an unprecedented plague upon the world, including its own people … Continue reading >>>

Fake News Sites Told You Distrusting China Over Coronavirus Was ‘Dangerous’

Here is a timely reminder of the scores of fake news outlets that dismissed questions as ‘baseless conspiracy theories’.
by Steve Watson, Summit News,16 April, 2020

Now that numerous virology experts are on record as saying it cannot be dismissed, and multiple government and intelligence sources have confirmed that investigations are underway into the possibility that the coronavirus leaked from an unsafe Wuhan bio-lab and China lied about the true scale of the outbreak, here is a timely reminder of the scores of fake news outlets that for weeks and months dismissed both notions as a ‘baseless conspiracy theories’ .

Remember, these sources (this is only a small selection of what is out there), to a varying degree in their dismissals, effectively bolstered Chinese state media and government insistences that questions over the safety of the lab were ‘dangerous’ … Continue reading >>>

Lockdown: UK Economy Could Shrink 35% This Quarter, World Facing New Great Depression

Projections released by the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) reveal that the British economy could face an unprecedented downturn should lockdown restrictions remain in place for three months.

The OBR said that the British economy could experience a record 35.1 per cent decline in the quarter to June, should the government’s lockdown measures, which are now all but certain to be extended by another three weeks, last for three months.

The projections also predict an increase of £218 billion in government borrowing in 2020-21, reaching a total of £273 billion, representing 14 per cent of the country’s GDP. The borrowing increase would lead to the largest single-year deficit since the Second World War, according to the report.

Though the office concludes that the GDP will “bounce back quickly” in the third quarter, it still predicts that for the year as a whole the UK will face a 13 per cent fall in GDP, a steeper decline than was experienced during either world war or the financial crisis of 2008 … Continue reading >>>

Coronavirus Widens Political Divide:

#FireFauci Should Be The Rallying Cry For A Generation

Authored by Tom Luongo via Gold, Goats, ‘n Guns blog,

I’m done mincing words. I’m done giving people the benefit of the doubt. Whenever I do that The Davos Crowd and their highly placed agents make me look like a virtue-signaling fool.

Fire Anthony Fauci now.

For weeks I’ve been careful to separate the threat of the disease, COVID-19, from the political response. I’ve felt strongly that one can respect the virus while at the same time be wary of the political response and the panic engineered over it.

But that’s come to an end. It’s clear that the plan from the beginning was to allow this virus to run wild in high profile places like New York and Italy to create fear. It is also clear that people like Dr. Anthony Fauci were activated to ensure the worst possible response to the crisis would be implemented in the U.S.

And now, after more than a month after shutting down whole swaths of our economy and locking people in their homes under effective house arrest it’s also clear that most of this response was overblown and unnecessary.

And here in the U.S. the point man on this insanity has been Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) whose ties to all the worst people you can imagine run very, very deep.

Lastly, it’s also very clear that President Trump was the target the entire time. He finally hit his breaking point yesterday because he realizes that now that he was advised poorly Continue reading >>>

Police State: British Cops Call For the Right to Invade Private Homes to Bust up Gatherings

British police are calling for expanded powers to enforce the coronavirus lockdown rules, including the authority to forcefully enter private residences suspected of hosting forbidden gatherings.

Under the current law, the police only have the right to enter a private residence with a warrant, or with the permission of its occupant, or in active pursuit of a suspected criminal, or to investigate a disturbance, or if they hear cries for help. However, the Police Federation of England and Wales is seeking draconian unprecedented powers from the government to allow them to enter citizens’ homes without a warrant to stop suspected house parties during the coronavirus pandemic.

“We have asked they consider giving us powers around private gatherings or gatherings in a private dwelling. We have no right to enter a property and say: stop having a party,” a police federation source told The Telegraph.

“Some officers are having to work round it using other legislation that wasn’t designed for it,” the source added.

Law enforcement offices across the country have been flooded with reports of house parties from neighbours, with Greater Manchester Police disclosing that they received 494 reports from residents of suspected parties during the first week of the national lockdown.

Home Secretary Priti Patel is expected to block the request for warrantless searches of households. Ms Patel has called on police to refrain from adopting a “heavy-handed” approach to enforcing the lockdown … Continue reading >>>

COVID-19 and the War on Cash: What Is Behind the Push for a Cashless Society?

  John Whitehead, 15 April 2020
Cash may well become a casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As these COVID-19 lockdowns drag out, more and more individuals and businesses are going cashless (for convenience and in a so-called effort to avoid spreading coronavirus germs), engaging in online commerce or using digital forms of currency (bank cards, digital wallets, etc.). As a result, physical cash is no longer king.

Yet there are other, more devious, reasons for this re-engineering of society away from physical cash: a cashless society—easily monitored, controlled, manipulated, weaponized and locked down—would play right into the hands of the government (and its corporate partners).

To this end, the government and its corporate partners-in-crime have been waging a subtle war on cash for some time now.

What is this war on cash? … Continue reading >>>

Cops Threaten To Search Shopping Baskets To Catch “Lockdown” Violators

Authored by Paul Joseph Watson via Summit News,

A police force in the UK threatened to start searching people’s shopping baskets in order to catch coronavirus lockdown violators, but later had to backtrack following a public backlash.

Northamptonshire Police chief constable Nick Adderley prompted outrage after he appeared in a video to warn people who were buying unessential items at grocery stores that their purchases may be scrutinized by the authorities.

“We will not at this stage be starting to marshal supermarkets and checking the items in baskets and trolleys to see whether it’s a legitimate, necessary item but again be under no illusion, if people do not heed the warnings and the pleas that I’m making today, we will start to do that,” said Adderley.

Adderley also said police checkpoints would be set up if people didn’t properly adhere to quarantine rules, warning that a “three-week grace period” in his county was over … Continue reading >>>

Five questions UK media should have asked of its government during Covid-19 – but didn’t

by Damien Wilson for RT, 10 April 2020

he unusually supine, bovine and herd-like behaviour of the British media at the government’s nightly Covid-19 press conferences has become one of the most depressing spectacles of the whole affair.

This daily ritual should be an opportunity for the nation’s finest journalistic minds to hold the government to account for its actions over the disease and to quiz ministers about the catastrophic consequences of their lockdown, so as to be able to present to their viewers and readers a critical, authoritative appraisal of what it all means.

Yet what do we get? The same litany of tireless, pointless and lame questions, set by journalists seemingly more concerned with grandstanding and impressing their colleagues and editors (and sometimes the politicians, themselves). Rather than, at this time of intense national crisis, doing their job. Holding truth to power, as they portentously like to remind us. Pass the sick bucket.

So in the spirit of trying to give these poor saps a hand, here are five key questions they should have asked the government. Feel free to use them, ladies or gentlemen of the media; no need to pay me.

Why did it choose to follow advice from one group of scientists over another?

In a nutshell, when selecting its initial approach to tackling the spread of the coronavirus, the UK opted for advice from its own scientific expert panel, and they were not in favour of the model suggested by the World Health Organisation (WHO) … Continue reading >>>

Here Comes Round Two: China Just Reported The Most New Covid Cases In A Month

Last week we reported that even as the world’s attention had shifted to the new global coronavirus outbreak epicenters of New York, Italy, Spain and other western nations, China – which rushed to restart its economy at any cost as the alternative was too dire to even consider – had put a major county on lockdown after a new cluster of coronavirus infection had emerged. To wit, last Wednesday we learned that in post on its social media account, Jia county – which has a population of about 600,000 – said that no one can travel out of Jia county without proper authorization after one person tested positive.

This new cluster emerged just days after China once again revised its virus reporting methodology to also include asymptomatic carriers of the disease, which naturally begged the question why China wasn’t reported his subset of infections previously.

Covid19 Death Figures “A Substantial Over-Estimate”

from Off – Guardian
We have reported reported many times that reports of deaths from coronavirusd are being manipulated to spread fear and panic.  According to the Italian Institute of Health (ISS), only 12% of Italy’s reported Covid19 deaths actually listed Covid19 as the cause of death.

Given that 90% of them were over retirement age, 99% of them had at least one serious co-morbidity (and that 80% of them had two such diseases) this raised serious questions as to the reliability of Italy’s reported statistics.

Prof Walter Ricciardi, advisor to Italy’s health minister, explained this was caused by the “generous” way the Italian government handles death certificates:

The way in which we code deaths in our country is very generous in the sense that all the people who die in hospitals with the coronavirus are deemed to be dying of the coronavirus.

Essentially, Italy’s death registration process does not differentiate between those who simply have the virus in their body, and those who are actually killed by it.

As a GP, I fear our Covid-19 lockdown will result in significantly more deaths than we are trying to prevent

from RT

We are paying too high a price to try to combat Covid-19. Not just in terms of the £350 billion ($430 billion) bill, but also in the health costs our actions are causing.

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought a very thorny issue to the forefront. How much money can we, as a society, spend on keeping people healthy or alive? No one has ever fully got to grips with this question, but it has never been more important than now.

America has set aside $2 trillion to deal with the crisis, and Britain £350 billion – which is almost three times the current yearly budget for the entire NHS. Is this a price worth paying?

Many people will instantly dismiss such a question as being coldhearted or stupid: “You cannot put a value on a human life” is an argument I have heard many times, whenever health economics is discussed … Continue reading >>>

Millions of Chinese-Made Coronavirus Tests Bought By British Government Don’t Work

The British government has ordered millions of coronavirus tests made in China that do not work, Public Health England’s Professor John Newton has admitted.

TOPSHOT - This photo taken on February 19, 2020 shows laboratory technicians testing samples of virus at a laboratory in Hengyang in China's central Henan province. - The death toll from the COVID-19 coronavirus epidemic jumped to 2,112 in China on February 20 after 108 more people died in Hubei …
Picture: AFP / Getty

Professor Newton, the government’s new testing chief, said that while some of the Chinese tests could identify immunity in those who had been very sick, all of the tests had failed the minimum thresholds set for the trials. They “are not good enough to be worth rolling out in very large scale”, he said.

“The test developed in China was validated against patients who were severely ill with a very large viral load, generating a large amount of antibodies… whereas we want to use the test in the context of a wider range of levels of infection including people who are quite mildly infected,” Prof Newton said in comments reported by The Times.

“So for our purposes, we need a test that performs better than some of these other tests,” he added.

This is not the first time that China-made tests for the Chinese coronavirus have proven faulty. Late last month, Spain, the country with the second-highest number of fatalities and the highest number of cases in Europe, bought thousands of faulty antibody testing kits from China’s Shenzhen Bioeasy Biotechnology. Chinese authorities claimed that Spain had purchased the tests, which were EU-certified, from a supplier that was not recommended by the Chinese state.

Turkey also found some Chinese testing kits to be substandard, with the margin of error too high and giving false-negatives while the Netherlands recalled 600,000 faulty masks made in China.

In The New Dystopia

Authored by Sill Solomon via Counterpunch.org,

It is difficult to neatly encapsulate the shift that has occurred in our collective perception and experience over the last several weeks. That all semblance of ‘certainty’ and ‘normalcy’ has disappeared seems no longer the main feature—what stands out is the psychological shift underway, proceeding on the collective and individual levels. What will this mean, how will it continue to evolve? Every conversation I have now touches on the coronavirus or those things that surround it. Everything I read online is related to it. ‘Social distancing’, ‘flattening the curve’—these phrases have become ubiquitous, standardized.

The situation is increasingly and rapidly revealing a number of uncomfortable but long obvious truths about our reality, perhaps none more so than the extent to which so much we take for granted is based on inertia, faith, and on a most rickety apparatus. A humming economy, the wide availability of consumer goods, school, transport, work—all melt away in the face of the virus … Continue reading >>>

The Shadow War Playing Out Behind The COVID-19 Crisis

Authored by Gregory Copley via OilPrice.com,

The rush to what is essentially a new wartime footing began consciously and urgently in the first quarter of 2020 between some of the most powerful geopolitical players of the modern era: the United States of America, the People’s Republic of China (PRC), and the United Kingdom.

It was not about the “battle” to cope with the COVID-19 (coronavirus) epidemic, or the global fear pandemic which it engendered, but those contagions broke the cycle of globalism and the belief in the indissoluble nature of interdependence. It allowed what was already emerging as a fundamental move toward a new, bipolar global competition to come out into the open.

By the end of March 2020, the global framework had changed sufficiently to become — behind the headlines about COVID-19 — about which system and ideology would triumph in the decades after the watershed. That meant a race by each of the major antagonists to determine how quickly national productivity could be resumed.

Even so, the failure of most major societies, including the PRC, to prepare for health pandemics, natural disasters, and associated contagions of fear was a significant function of the transformed realities of the “globalist”-dominated political structures over the earlier lessons of national self-reliance. Back in 2014 during the Ebola scare in the US I published an article warning about how a global pandemic could be used by the elites as cover for the implementation of an economic collapse as well as martial law measures in western nations. My immediate concern was the way in which a viral outbreak could be engineered or exploited as a rationale for a level of social control that the public would never accept under normal circumstances.

Molecular Biologist Says COVID-19 Could Have Leaked From Wuhan Biolab

Authored by Steve Watson via Summit News,

A molecular biologist proclaimed Thursday that the Chinese coronavirus could have originated at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and been leaked, leading to it’s horrific spread around the globe.

Richard H. Ebright, a professor of chemical biology at Rutgers University, told The Daily Caller that he believes it is a distinct possibility that an accident in the laboratory in China could have caused the outbreak.

Professor Ebright said that “A denial is not a refutation,” referring to China’s top virologist Shi Zhengli, who works at the lab in Wuhan, and has repeatedly denied that it was the source of the pandemic.

Zhengli, known as ‘bat-woman’, because she works with bat-borne viruses,  has said that the coronavirus spread is “nature punishing the human race for keeping uncivilized living habits.”  Continue reading >>>

After living and working in China for over 10 years and speaking fluent Chinese, you get to know a society pretty well… and let me tell you this – if you’re applauding or admiring the political leadership of China, you’re all deluded beyond belief.

That is how “laowhy86” begins this succinct  video exploring the ‘facts’ – not conspiracies – behind the source of the coronavirus that is ravaging the earth.

“After living and working in China for over 10 years and speaking fluent Chinese, you get to know a society pretty well… and let me tell you this – if you’re applauding or admiring the political leadership of China, you’re all deluded beyond belief.”

Furthermore, he notes, the Chinese government layers are “broken and fragile” and so it didn’t surprise him when he was able to follow breadcrumbs – as begun by our inquisition about the roles that certain individuals played in Wuhan – to discover the “very suspicious” fact that the Wuhan Bio lab had a job opening from November 18, 2019, asking for scientists to come and research the relationship between the coronavirus and bats.

However, after ZeroHedge was permanently suspended from Twitter for daring to suggest anything but the official narrative handed down, laowhy86 notes that another job opening appeared on December 24th (remember this is before any news broke of the virus publicly), which basically says ‘we’ve discovered a new and terrible virus and would like to recruit people to come deal with it’… Continue reading >>>

Could The COVID-19 Response Be More Deadly Than The Virus?

Authored by Kevin Ryan via Off-Guardian.org,

The economic, social and public health consequences of these measures could claim millions of victims…

The initial, alarming estimates of deaths from the virus COVID-19 were that as many as 2.2 million people would die in the United States. This number is comparable to the annual US death rate of around 3 million. Fortunately, correction of some simple errors in overestimation has begun to dramatically reduce the virus mortality claims.

The most recent estimate from “the leading US authority on the COVID-19 pandemic” suggests that the US may see between 100,000 and 200,000 deaths from COVID-19, with the final tally likely to be somewhere in the middle.” This means that we are expecting around 150,000 US deaths caused by the virus, if the latest estimates hold up.

How does that compare to the effects of the measures taken in response? By all accounts, the impact of the response will be great, far-reaching, and long-lasting. Continue reading >>>

The United States government has rolled out incredibly totalitarian measures that amount to human rights violations in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.  Unfortunately, long after this pandemic is a distance memory, the authoritarian controls will still be in place.

Local governments and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have received the anonymized data about people in areas of “geographic interest,” with the aim being to create a portal of geolocation information for 500 cities across the country. The development follows reports of other countries using cellphone data to monitor citizens and see if they are complying with curbs on movement, and elimination of income in order to defeat the viral outbreak

European mobile carriers have reportedly been sharing data with health authorities in Italy, Germany, and Austria, while at the same time respecting Europe’s privacy laws. Earlier this month, Israel passed emergency measures that allow security agencies to track the smartphone data of people with suspected COVID-19 and find others they may have come into contact with … Continue reading >>>

NHS: A Sacred Cow Or A Dysfunctional Bureaucracy

Political failures and corporate greed have brought the NHS to its knees, and led to my mother’s death

While the rest of the country obsesses over Brexit and the election and our political leaders, Jezza and Boris, compete to win the award for making the title of most outrageously dishonest pledge to protect the NHS I am unusually quiet on matters of politics, because I am still getting over the loss of my lovely wife Teresa who died of respiratory failure, while  surrounded by highly trained medical professionals and millions of poundsworth of hi tech equipment.

Only last week a story featured on the BBC main news of a young man, Mark Stuart, who was admitted to the same hospital as Teresa routine surgery, and having bee prepped for his operation, was left untended after the surgery was deyated and left without food or water for FIVE DAYS, The story is no longer online at BBC News but a report can be read on the Lancashire Evening Telegraph website..

You will read how the efforts of Mark’s parents to get to the truth of what happened and how such a cock up could go unnoticed for FIVE DAYS have been delayed, obstructed and obfuscated by snivelling little parasites who have brown nosed their way to roles far beyond their lavel of competence in the dysfunctional centralised bureaucracy that runs the national Health Service.

My wife’s case is still under investigation so I cannot go into great detail, but in view of similarities with the case of Mark Stuart and others involving the same hospital let’s just say a pattern has emerged.

Another case which has aspects of the same pattern featured in the i Newspaper today and is reproduced below in this not for profit blog under fair use terms, for public information.

The time where we could accept cautious evolution has passed – our NHS today needs a revolution
from the i Newspaper

“I love you too much, you have a heart of gold. Look after your Papa.” These were the last lucid words my mother said to me as I hugged her tighter than I’d ever done in my life. A week later she was gone.

One year ago at 2:32pm on the 29th November, Dr Anisha Malhotra took her last breath. A GP that had dedicated over 25 years of her life to the NHS was ultimately failed by it.

Four weeks earlier my mother had been admitted with a temperature and excruciating back pain. She was diagnosed with discitis, which proved to be resistant to antibiotics. A secondary heart attack as a result of the stress on her already frail body was enough to tip her over the edge. But what happened in hospital, which eventually led to the premature death of a 68-year old lady in the most horrible of circumstances, and the profound emotional trauma of family members witnessing it, was entirely avoidable.

Lifestyle-related disease – a result of consuming too much ultra-processed food and inactivity – had left her overweight, resulting in hypertension and severe osteoarthritis. Years of popping ibuprofen like Smarties to deal with joint pain made her anaemic, and loss of appetite made it particularly difficult to get enough nourishment from her vegetarian diet. Weak bones from malnourishment and lack of activity brought her to hospital twice last year in the space of four months.

‘The system is struggling to provide even basic quality care to many patients.’

An overstretched system

Although remarkably strong in spirit she was extremely frail and weak by the time she was admitted to hospital for the final time. But rather than allow her to die with dignity, an overstretched system meant a missed heart attack was only noted by her medical team eleven days after it was reported.By then it was too late to save her. Excess intravenous fluids led to heart failure. It took several days of diuretics to make her comfortable and allow her to be taken off oxygen. But by then she’d slipped into a deep coma, never to wake up again.

There can be no doubt years of austerity and NHS underfunding have led to a shortage of nurses and doctors unable to keep up with increasing demand. But even if that were to be resolved overnight it would be at best no more than putting a sticking plaster on a severed artery, because the system is struggling to provide even basic quality care to many patients.

Lifestyle factors and ‘too much medicine’

The two major reasons for this are simply not being addressed: maldistribution of resources through “too much medicine”; and diet-related disease. Former medical director of NHS England, Sir Bruce Keogh, has previously stated that one in seven operations and treatments should never have been carried out on patients in hospital.

The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges waste report stated that “one doctor’s waste is another patient’s delay”. For my mother that meant waiting for two extra hours (because of understaffing) to be prescribed oxygen and diuretics whilst in crashing pulmonary oedema, an experience that can only be likened to drowning but remaining alive at the same time. And this is despite my father, a doctor, watching by her bedside totally helpless to relieve the suffering of his life partner of 45 years.

The root of our healthcare crisis

This can and must not be taken as attack on the NHS itself. Instead, it’s an indictment on what is at the very root of our healthcare crisis: those vested interests that have brought it to the brink of collapse. The increasing burden of diet-related disease is at the heart of increasing demand on the NHS, yet there is absolutely nothing in the Conservative manifesto on policy changes to deal with the public health crisis.

It also does not address the tainted, industry-biased research which continues to cause significant harm to patients, with side effects of medications one of the leading causes of death. If 93 per cent of medical research is of questionable reliability and not relevant to patients it’s going to lead to bad outcomes, and that’s what we’ve got. But such lack of action is perhaps not surprising.

A BMJ investigation earlier this year highlighted that the Conservative party has received £4.3m from “free market” think tank, the IEA, that has opposed public health initiatives to tackle obesity, such as calorie labelling and advertising restrictions on unhealthy foods. This organisation has received funding from tobacco companies and the sugar and soft drinks industries.

‘It is now time all doctors also took some responsibility’

Following the cash-for-questions scandal in 1994, the then Prime Minister, Sir John Major, set up the Committee on Standards in Public Life. A subsequent report made it imperative that all those in public life, including MPs and Doctors whose primary duty is to serve the needs of the people, uphold the seven so-called “Nolan principles”: selflessness, objectivity, integrity, accountability, honesty, openness, and leadership.

The excesses and manipulations of industry that put personal greed and wealth before health would not be possible if it were not aided and abetted by regulators, politicians and powerful scientists.

It is now time all doctors also took some responsibility for and action against system failures that make their jobs unmanageable and, most importantly, deny patients timely and quality care. Corporate greed and systematic political failure have brought the NHS to its knees.

The system is broken and money alone cannot fix it. The time where we could accept cautious evolution has passed – our NHS today needs a revolution. No one should suffer like my mother, and no family should have to witness it.

My mother’s vegetarian diet contributed to her early death. We should all learn from it

NHS cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra: my mother’s diet was full of ultra-processed foods and was ultimately to the detriment of her health

Two weeks ago, my father and I made a trip to Rishikesh in northern India to scatter my mother’s ashes in the River Ganges at an idyllic location at the foothills of the Himalayas. This was in keeping with her wishes as a devout Hindu that her spirit be released at a place she loved and previously visited on pilgrimage. Our family lost a greatly cherished mother and wife who went before her time, at only 68 years old.

I believe that what was finally written on her death certificate – severe sepsis and discitis with concomitant myocardial infarction (heart attack) – was entirely avoidable.

‘Growing up, I witnessed her regular consumption of starchy carbohydrates and ultra-processed snack foods of biscuits, crisps and chocolate. Our kitchen was flooded with these products’

i’s opinion newsletter: talking points from today

For most of her adult life, my mum was vegetarian and significantly overweight. Growing up, I witnessed her regular consumption of starchy carbohydrates and ultra-processed snack foods of biscuits, crisps and chocolate. Our kitchen was flooded with these products. I still have a vivid memory of her only meal on a weekly fast day consisting of a large chapatti and what can only be described as a mountain of table sugar. Her weight contributed to developing high blood pressure in her 40s and as a result, she suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2003.

Despite making a full recovery, taking up going to the gym and even learning to swim at the age of 50, the next 10 years resulted in a gradual deterioration in her mobility. Obesity related osteoarthritis led to slipped discs and severe degeneration of her spine, forcing her to take early retirement from General Practice.

Her vegetarian diet required her to take Vitamin B12 and iron supplementation. Protein deficiency led to sarcopenia (a decline in muscle mass) which limited her mobility even further. In the last six months of her life, she had two hospital admissions with agonising spontaneous sequential bilateral osteoporotic fractures of her pelvis. By the time she passed away, even high doses of morphine weren’t enough to completely ease the additional excruciating back pain from an infection in her spine.

What I see in my job as an NHS cardiologist

Although, as in my mum’s case, it is widely acknowledged that obesity is associated with the development of chronic disease, a not well-known phenomenon of being “overfat” (defined as excess body fat that can impair health and contribute to chronic disease) is now estimated to affect 70 to 80 per cent of the Indian adults and 41 per cent of children.

A large percentage of overfat individuals will have a normal Body Mass Index, with up to 50 per cent having excess body fat linked to risk factors for disease.

I recently learned an uncle of mine who has been a “slim” physically active vegetarian all his life, and never smoked, had a triple coronary bypass for three occluded heart arteries aged only 69. This was less than a year after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. When I spoke to him, he admitted for the last twenty years his diet was high in flour based and sugary foods, but he believed because he wasn’t overweight he was perfectly healthy.

The diabetes capital of the world

Such cases are not unusual for me to see as a cardiologist working in the NHS. The majority of those admitted with heart attack are not obese but have a condition known as metabolic syndrome with one of the major components being increased waist circumference. The significant limitation of BMI (calculated by dividing one’s weight in kg by height in metres squared) is that is that it fails to take into account age, ethnicity, bone structure, fat distribution and muscle mass.

‘It’s instructive to note that India, with more vegetarians and vegans than the rest of the world combined, is the “diabetes capital of the world”‘

In developed countries such as the USA, New Zealand, Greece, and Iceland the prevalence of having excess body fat has reached over 90 per cent. In the UK, it’s estimated that 86 per cent of the adult men and 77 per cent of women are overfat. Excess body fat, which acts as a substrate for chronic inflammation and insulin resistance, is now implicated in the development of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, osteoporosis, cancer and Alzheimer’s.

It’s instructive to note that India, with more vegetarians and vegans than the rest of the world combined, is the “diabetes capital of the world”. The city of Chandigarh has the highest prevalence of type 2 diabetes in the country and the state of which it is capital, Punjab, has 75 per cent of the population as vegetarian. In the subcontinent, the last 50 years have specifically seen significant increases in consumption of processed wheat, sugar and vegetable oils (which have overtaken animal fats as a percentage of calories).

Majority of vegetarians not following a healthy diet

The Indian Dietetic Association recently put out a statement claiming 84 per cent of vegetarians in the country are protein deficient versus 65 per cent of meat eaters. As one of New Zealand’s most eminent dietitian’s Dr Caryn Zinn told me: “Calorie for calorie, meat is more proteinaceous and nutrient dense than vegetables. Of course, one can have a very healthy vegetarian diet but the majority of vegetarians in the world are clearly not following this.”

A large observational study conducted in Australia in 2016 concluded that contrary to popular belief, once other lifestyle factors were accounted for, vegetarians do not live longer than non-vegetarians in the developed world. Similarly, a large Austrian study published in the prestigious medical journal PLOS 1 found that despite having a lower BMI and less alcohol consumption, “a vegetarian diet is associated with poorer health (higher incidences of cancer, allergies and mental health disorders) a higher need for health care and a poorer quality of life.”

‘The point about saturated fat is: the evidence is now looking pretty good, but the guidance hasn’t shifted’

The totality of evidence does not find an association with the consumption of unprocessed red meat and reduced life expectancy. The association of the dietary saturated fat and heart disease found in high amounts in animal products has also been debunked in a paper I coauthored with two eminent cardiologists.

Taking much of this evidence into consideration after two days of debate and discussion at the international science and politics of nutrition conference jointly hosted by medical reinsurance company Swiss Re and the BMJ in June last year, the editor in chief of the journal Dr Fiona Godlee remarked: “The point about saturated fat is: the evidence is now looking pretty good, but the guidance hasn’t shifted […] there doesn’t seem to have been an enormous ‘mea culpa’ from the scientific community that we got it so wrong. That does surprise me.”

A focus on starch, sugar and salt reduction instead

(Pexels) Population-wide strategies to curb obesity should now discard fat and saturated fat and focus on starch, sugar and salt reduction instead.

Dariush Mozaffarian, Dean of the Freedman School of Nutrition Science And Policy at Tufts University, Massachusetts, told me at the event in Zurich that population-wide strategies to curb obesity should now discard fat and saturated fat and focus on starch, sugar and salt reduction instead.

Ultra-processed food now makes up more than half of the British diet and is strongly linked to weight gain and even cancer. Ultra-processed is broadly defined as industrial formulations (any packaged food) with five or more ingredients. And when broken down into food groups, 77 per cent comes from sugary products and drinks, starchy foods and breakfast cereals, and ultra-processed fruit and vegetables. 19 per cent comes from ultra-processed meat, fish, eggs and dairy, and two per cent from “fats” and two per cent from salty snacks.

‘There’s been much media hype recently suggesting that adopting a meat or animal product free diet is best for human and planetary health, but this is not evidence-based’

There’s been much media hype recently suggesting that adopting a meat or animal product free diet is best for human and planetary health, but this is not evidence-based.

An independent report from the US Department of Agriculture predicts complete removal of animals from the food supply would only reduce total US greenhouse gases by 2.6 per cent but simultaneously increase dietary energy consumption from a plant only system and worsen nutritional deficiencies.

Not less meat, but better meat

“We don’t need less meat but better meat in the food supply,” said Dietitian and organic farmer Diana Rodgers. She recently wrote a devastating critique of the “nutritionally deficient” Eat Lancet report which recommends we consume less than half an ounce of red meat per day, the equivalent of one eight of a steak.

Red meat happens to be one of the best sources of zinc and Vitamin B12, a supplement of which needs to be taken by up to 92 per cent of vegans. “Well-managed cattle can also be one of our best tools at mitigating climate change,” Rodgers added, citing a study that shows how methane-emitting cattle can actually be a carbon sink, when looking at the full life cycle. “It’s not the cow, it’s the how.”

‘The biggest beneficiaries could very well be the ultra-processed “meat and dairy free” food industry, the vitamin and supplement industry and a predictable rise in the overfat epidemic and associated chronic diseases would be a cash cow for Big Pharma’

So whilst population health continues to suffer, the biggest beneficiaries could very well be the ultra-processed “meat and dairy free” food industry, the vitamin and supplement industry, and a predictable rise in the overfat epidemic and associated chronic diseases would be a cash cow for Big Pharma.

My mother dedicated most of her adult life to working as a GP in the NHS and was one of the most kind and compassionate people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. She wholeheartedly supported my public health advocacy work as it was in line with her philosophy as a Hindu to put Dharma (duty) to the community as paramount.

Sadly, her devout religious faith to avoid consuming animal products, combined with a high starch, high sugar diet, was ultimately to the detriment of her health. I very much hope that her premature and painful death was not in vain and we can learn that much of these ills are preventable.

But the lefties forget, as they gleWfully point at any conservatives whose heads appears over the parapet, yelling “Witches, burn them,” that the Labour government, between 1997 and 2010 under the traitor and war criminal Tony Blair privatised much of the NHS.

Sacha Baron Cohen Blasts Facebook As Running The “Greatest Propaganda Machine In History”

After making a career out of trolling various public figures while in disguise, first as Ali G, then Borat and a host of other whacky characters and most recently in his US television series, “Who Is America,” which apparently led to a Georgia state lawmaker resigning his office in humiliation, Sacha Baron Cohen has made a rare appearance as himself, to attack Silicon Valley billionaires who, he claims, are endangering democracy and political stability.  The comedian singled out Facebook’s  Mark Zuckerberg as the worst culprit and “One of the six people who decide what information so much of the world sees….” Baron Cohen described Zuckerberg as one of the people who is ultimately responsible for propagandizing the masses.

In an acceptance speech while receiving the ADL International Leadership Award he launched a blistering attack against Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google and others, describing themthem as representing “the greatest propaganda machine in history”.

It’s a pity he didn’t think to mention the links all these companies have with the security agencies that make up “The Deep State.”

However he did say to a large audience in New York that while the content they publish reaches billions of people the internet social media giants only care about their bottom line as they propagate hate and lies and spread messages that “appeal to our baser instincts”.

“All this hate and violence is being facilitated by a handful of internet companies that amount to the greatest propaganda machine in history,” he said.

“Think about it. Facebook, YouTube and Google, Twitter and others – they reach billions of people. The algorithms these platforms depend on deliberately amplify the type of content that keeps users engaged – stories that appeal to our baser instincts and that trigger outrage and fear.”

Addressing the long-running controversy that followed the 2016 US Presidential Election election, Baron Cohen further took Facebook to task  for running political advertisements from both sides without fact-checking, comparing some of the messages to propaganda used under the Third Reich.

“If you pay them, Facebook will run any ‘political’ ad you want, even if it’s a lie,” he said. “And they’ll even help you micro-target those lies to users most likely to be susceptible to the message, for maximum effect. Under this twisted logic, if Facebook were around in the 1930s, it would have allowed Hitler to post 30-second ads on his ‘solution’ to the ‘Jewish problem’.”

At one point he even suggested social media company CEOs who publish political propaganda on their platform as part of campaigns to influence election outcomes or even genocides in parts of the globe should be sent to jail.

He also attacked Mark Zuckerberg’s risible claims that Facebook is actually a bastion of “free expression”.

He said: “I think we could all agree that we should not be giving bigots and paedophiles a free platform to amplify their views and target their victims.” He also went after “holocaust-deniers” and others which he called anti-Semitic.

Internet companies can now be held responsible for paedophiles who use their sites to target children. I say, let’s also hold these companies responsible for those who use their sites to advocate for the mass murder of children because of their race or religion. And maybe fines are not enough. Maybe it’s time to tell Mark Zuckerberg and the CEOs of these companies: you already allowed one foreign power to interfere in our elections, you already facilitated one genocide in Myanmar, do it again and you go to jail

While obviously still believing the now debunked claim that Russia interfered in the US election, (it was actually a great power much closer to home – Google,) he is right in saying that Social Media companies must be held accountable for what they allow people to publish. Refuting Zuckerberg’s ‘freedom of expression’ defense for the hatred and bullying on Facebook, Cohen said further: “This is not about limiting anyone’s free speech. This is about giving people, including some of the most reprehensible people on earth, the biggest platform in history to reach a third of the planet. Freedom of speech is not freedom of reach. Sadly, there will always be racists, misogynists, anti-Semites and child abusers.”

“So here’s a good standard and practice: Facebook, start fact-checking political ads before you run them, stop micro-targeted lies immediately, and when the ads are false, give back the money and don’t publish them,” the comedian and satirist explained, though in a dead serious tone.

Baron Cohen saved his most cutting remarks for Zuckerberg however, one commentator, Adam Best, tweeted: Sacha Baron Cohen says the Silicon Six billionaires care “more about boosting their share price than about protecting democracy,” calls Zuck a modern Caesar and jokes that explains his haircut.

ABC TV News Covered Up Evidence On Paedophile Epstein, Whistleblower Former News Anchor Claims

When the furore about the convenient death of billionaire paedophole Jeffrey Epstein died down after the alleged sex criminal was found dead in his cell in a New York remand centre, many of Epstein’s rich and powerful friends who had been ferried by private jet to sex parties on his private Caribbean Island must have heaved a sigh of relief. But we predicted at the time that the story of Epstein’s crimes would not die with him.

Now a new undercover video from Project Veritas reveals that ABC News knew of Jeffrey Epstein’s sex crimes, yet decided to ignore it according to undercover footage from Project Veritas.

In the video Amy Robach, ‘Good Morning America’ Co-Host and Breaking News Anchor at ABC, explains how a witness approached ABC News years ago with information relating to Epstein, but Disney-owned ABC News refused to air the material for years. (The Disney Corporation are no strangers to the techniques needed to cover up paedophile activities of course.)

Having told how ABC bosses kept a lid on the story, Robach vents her anger in a “hot mic” moment with an off-camera producer, explaining that ABC quashed the story in it’s early stages. “I’ve had this interview with Virginia Roberts (Now Virginia Guiffre) [alleged Epstein victim]. We would not put it on the air. Um, first of all, I was told “Who’s Jeffrey Epstein. No one knows who that is. This is a stupid story.”

She continues, “The Palace [Buckingham Palace] found out that we had her whole allegations about Prince Andrew and threatened us a million different ways.” she told Project Veritas. According to Robach, she had all the dirt on Epstein and his associates, including Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew, Dershowicz (A US constitutional law expert and government adviser,) and many more. I had it all three years ago.”

“…There will come a day when we will realize Jeffrey Epstein was the most prolific pedophile this country has ever known,” said Attorney Brad Edwards.

This is far from the first time Epstein’s crimes have been covered up, minimized, or ignored.

Notoriously, former US Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta negotiated a ‘sweetheart deal’ for Epstein in 2008 after he pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution from a minor. The pedophile financier was able to ‘work’ outside of prison most days, during which time he reportedly continued to abuse girls. Epstein’s plea of guilt to that once crime was in” exchange for dozens of other cases being set aside, so the billionaire served a short jail sentence instead of going down for years.

Additionally, the Manhattan DA’s office headed by Cyrus Vance Jr. had ‘graphic and detailed evidence’ of Epstein’s crimes when a prosecutor argued for leniency during his 2011 sex offender registry hearing, according to an April report in the New York Post.

In advance of the hearing, then-deputy chief of Sex Crimes, Jennifer Gaffney, had been given a confidential state assessment that deemed Epstein to be highly dangerous and likely to keep preying on young girls, the DA’s office admitted in its own appellate brief eight months after the hearing.

Manhattan prosecutors were aware the state board had assigned Epstein a risk assessment of 130, a number that is “solidly above the 110 qualifying number for level three,” with “absolutely no basis for downward departure,” the brief notes.

Nevertheless, Gaffney argued that he should be labeled a level one offender, the least restrictive, which would keep him off the online database. -New York Post

In spite of all that, Epstein returned to his sex – obsessed elitist lifestyle and continued to procure very young girls for sex with his guests until his arrest in June this year.
