What George Orwell was telling us!

Posted by by opher goodwin on Writer Beat Apr 2, 2019

If we learn anything from George Orwell’s writing it should be this one thing:

There is always an enemy that is threatening our way of life and our very existence. That is what the establishment wants you to believe. That is what they use to generate fear and to unify people. That is what they deploy to divert attention from the reality of what they are doing.

They are systematically exploiting the whole population for the benefit of a small elite. They are giving as little as they can to the majority so that they can cream off a huge slice for the top.

They are condensing power and wealth in a small establishment group while demonising minorities, creating exaggerated threats and using this as a distraction …

1984: Orwell’s Dystopian Nightmare Is Upon Us

Orwell Was Not Wrong About The Result – Only The Year

Dystopian Fiction Becomes Political Reality

I have been following the propaganda of the establishment led campaign to keep us in the European Union, the half truths, the scaremongering, the misrepresentations, and this is what it brought to mind.

“In a way, the world-view of the Party imposed itself most successfully on people incapable of understanding it. They could be made to accept the most flagrant violations of reality, because they never fully grasped the enormity of what was demanded of them, and were not sufficiently interested in public events to notice what was happening. By lack of understanding they remained sane. They simply swallowed everything, and what they swallowed did them no harm, because it left no residue behind, just as a grain of corn will pass undigested through the body of a bird.”

George Orwell, 1984

Five minutes in Facebook or Twitter should be enough to convince you of the truth of the above paragraph. If it isn’t, try reading this article, which though by an American writer is relevant because the same charge towards totalitarianism and The New World Order is going on over the pond too.

The delicious irony is that those people screaming that Donald Trump is a fascist, a racist, the spawn of Satan, are campaigning in support of the totalitarian agenda they claim to loathe. If you really care about freedom, instead of letting the latest batch of Facebook memes do you thinking for you and jumping on the bandwagons with the rest of the sheeple, support the anti establishment candidates for whichever electoral system you are entitled to vote in.

The Right To Tell Politicians To Eff Off In An Age Of Self Appointed Censors, and Compliant Media

“If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.”?    George Orwell

Free speech is the foundation of democracy. If we lose free speech we have lost everything because, to put it simply, we can no longer ask the questions that hold ruling elites to account.

no_free_speech

Free speech is not for the faint hearted, saying what YOU believe to be true can attract some robust responses, so those arrested adolescents who want everybody to like them should avoid exercising their right to it. Those who are easily offended, quickly intimidated or the snivelling little cowards on university campuses who feel they are entitled to live in a ‘safe space’ where they will never see or hear anything that offends their delicate, politically correct sensibilities should stay away from free speech (preferably by dressing in baby clothes, sucking on titty bottles and locking themselves in a pink furry bedroom with lots of cuddly toys for company (or they could try to GROW THE FUCK UP of course.

Free speech can sometimes get angry, shouty, foul-mouthed, obscene, intolerant, undignified, insensitive, cantankerous, bawdy and downright fucking offensive. The problem is that the scum sucking spawn of a pox whore’s scab louse has just as much right to express their opinion as you and your ‘right – on’ friends.

Unfortunately, our appreciation for a robust freedom of speech has worn thin over the years.

Fear of free speech (liberglossophobia?) afflicts many in the English speaking world which has been hit harder by the plague of politically correct thinking than most places other cultures. Americans have become fearfully polite, hardly daring to say “good morning” lest it should offend somebody who thinks it is not a good morning. We have become reluctant to mention personal preferences because people who hate what we like might be offended by our preference being different to theirs. So hateful and furious have the responses of the ‘progressive left’ to those who stray ‘off – message’ become, people are unwilling to be labeled racist, bigoted,  intolerant, hateful, closed-minded or any of the other toxic (but rarely correctly applied) labels that carry a badge of shame today. We’ve come to prize compliance over freedom.

Worse, too many people are held hostage by their screen devices and the talking heads on television, have lost the ability to think critically or form their own opinions. Those who spend a lot of time dicking about with their smartphones or tablets are having their opinions formed for them, not by ‘The Wisdom Of The Crowd‘ (there is no crowd, only software filters that control what you see on the internet.)

Truly democratic societies cherish free speech and controversy (the true diversity rather than a facistic gesture of forcing people of different skin tones, religions and cultures to live side by side) and thus produce a robust democracy which respects the rights of others within a shared moral framework and will stand against authoritarian government.

Free speech has always been the first target of tyrants, oppressive regimes have traditionally understood the value of controlling citizens by controlling ideas by suppressing open discussion. The power elites have a vested interest in suppressing debate and publication of the data that informs debate, such controls are essential to controlling how a people view their society and government.

All politicians have an insatiable appetite for power which is a drug thousands of times more addictive than heroin or cocaine.  If they can turn the two-way dialogue that is representative democracy into a one-way dictatorship in which questioning government policy is crminalised (a move which Barack Obama, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and David Cameron in the UK, France’s Francois Hollande, Chancellor angela Merkel of Germany and various Eurpean Union and United Nations bureaucrats have spoken of in relation to mass immigration policy or climate change scepticism) their grip on power is consolidated. Instead of news we will have propaganda, and instead of freedom we will have serfdom.

Emboldened by theraputic phrases from the pseudo – sciences of sociology and psychology such as “hate speech,” “bullying,” “extremism” and “microaggressions,” the government and their collaborators in internet social media are whittling away at free speech, ensuring it does not challenge the status quo in any meaningful way or goes against  politically correct ideals, and muzzling it when it threatens the elite’s control.

Free speech is no longer free.

Nor is free speech still considered an inalienable right or an essential liberty, even by those government entities entrusted with protecting it.

We’ve entered into an egotistical, insulated, narcissistic era in which free speech has been caged; paraded in political speeches by the hypocrites who fear it most, (i.e.  when it reflects the values of the majority or beyond our political, religious and socio-economic comfort zones )and tolerated only so long as it sticks to what is anodyne and boring and does not start asking difficult questions or telling embarrassing truths.

Big Brother Is Right Behind You And He Knows What you Are Up To

Big Brother Is Right Behind You And He Knows What you Are Up TO

No doubt the smug complacent bourgeois fools will shout conspiracy theirist and the emotionally needy leftist Sheeple will bleat “racist bigot” (they always bleat “racist bigot”) but it is not alarmist to say the UK is slowly becoming a totalitarian state resembling the one in George Orwell’s novel 1984. What else can we call our nation if anti – terror laws are being used prosecute people for low-level offences such as Television licence dodging.

The BBC (yes, Auntie Beeb)which as we all must be aware is run by a bunch of greedy, self serving, authoritarian Bolsheviks is using laws designed to catch terrorists and organised crime gangs to track down people who dodge the licence fee, according to a Daily Mail report based on a post at the BigBrotherWatch web site.

The publicly owned broadcaster is using the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA), designed by the last Labour government to fight terrorism, to catch those who evade paying the £145.50 fee. You may remember that the BBC’s claims to possess technology which their said could see into your home and monitor which TV channel you were watching was actually a lie (of course it was a lie, they’re lefties, they despise the truth.)

In 2012, Big Brother Watch discovered 345 councils had been authorised to use RIPA 9,607 times in just three years – the equivalent of around nine spying missions a day.

Seven public authorities, including the BBC, refused under the Freedom of Information Act to disclose why or how often they had used the powers. The most common use of the legislation is to demand phone companies hand over an individual’s communications data.

At the time, the BBC said the reason for its secrecy was ‘to ensure people without a valid TV licence don’t use this information to their advantage’. Last night a BBC spokesman said: ‘Legislation explicitly grants the BBC the right to use these powers to detect unlicensed use of television receivers.

‘We’re regularly inspected by independent regulators and have always been open about using this power when there is no other option to help reduce evasion on behalf of the vast majority of the population who pay for their licence.’

RIPA, passed by Labour in 2000 ostensibly as an anti-terror measure, gives public authorities sweeping powers to snoop on the public.

The most common use of the legislation is to demand phone companies hand over an individual’s communications data. This would include details of who a person called, when and for how long. However, the act can also be used to mount undercover surveillance operations – such as secretly following a person to see when they are at home. This could, in theory, be used to match the times when a TV is believed to have been in use.

The Metropolitan Police Force is also in trouble for abusing the powers to gain access the phone logs of reporters on two newspapers in order to trace their sources.

What is most striking about these events are that publicly funded bodies such as the BBC, the Police and local authorities are refusing to answer perfectly reasonable Freedom of Information Act requests whilst exercising powers they shouldn’t have granted by government bodies that voters do not approve of. There is proof that local authorities have used terror laws to surveil dog fouling and even people breaking smoking bans. And, where is all the data being stored of people being caught by anti-terror laws? Where will this end up? Big Brother is watching.

Orwell Was Not Wrong About The Result – Only The Year

Socialist believer and those who love authoritarianism, big government and concepts such as each of us having our own personal government snooper whose job is to make sure we never step out of line, never try to think for ourselves and never even question the authority of the government to keep us under constant surveillance, tell us what we can and cannot read, say, think or how much we can eat and drink like to say “No na nah na naaa, Orwell was wrong, it’s thirty years past 1984 and we’re still free to do as we are told.

As usual they are so wrong in so many ways. 1984 was an allegorical date, a reversal of the two final digits of 1948, they year in which his dystopian novel was written. What he was telling readers was, “this is what the future holds unless we reject oligarchic collectivism now.”

And now in 2014, those with eyes to see and ears to hear must be aware ‘1984’ has been with us for a long time. It just crept up so stealtily most sheeple did not notice. This cartoon says it all …

So George Orwell Was Right Then

George Orwell said many memorable things and some of his comments on the fascist nature of socialism, big government control of media and the suppression of free speech now seem almost supernaturally prescient. Here’s one of that is particularly germane in the light of a news item in today’s American news (though as us libertarians would expect, it warrants hardly a word in mainstream media):

“Journalism is reporting news somebody does not want reported, everything else is public relations.”

And why is this particularly significant today?

from Jon Rappoport’s Blog

‘Ajit Pai, an FCC commissioner, has blown the whistle on a government plan to put federal monitors in newsrooms.

The plan is billed as a study, to determine how major networks assemble their stories—and also as a teaching program to show newspeople what stories are vital and critical, and what stories aren’t.

The Orwellian op even covers newspapers, to which the FCC has no regulatory connection. Pai writes in the Wall St. Journal:’

Obama’s Big Brother Is Watching You

Beyond Orwell’s Worst Nightmare says the headline and it truly is.

orwells big brother

from Global Research:

“In his recent speech on NSA reforms, President Obama cited as precedent Paul Revere and the Sons of Liberty, who patrolled the streets at night, “reporting back any signs that the British were preparing raids against America’s early Patriots.” This was a weak effort to find historical support for the NSA spying program. After all, Paul Revere and his associates were patrolling the streets, not sorting through people’s private communications.”

In order to get better contextual references, The Emperor Obama should have considered how the American revolutionaries had reacted to searches conducted by the British before the revolution. The British used “general warrants,” which authorized blanket searches without any individual suspicion or clear identification of what the colonial authorities were snooping for.

In a petition to King George III in 1774, The American Colonial Congress protested against British officers’ unlimited power of search and seizure. The petition complained that the power had been abused “to break open and enter houses, without the authority of any civil magistrate.”

When leaders of the Revolution later drafted the Bill Of Rights, the Fourth Amendment was a prohibition on unreasonable searches and seizures, they were attempting to ensure that our country would not become a police state.

Obama is citing the Founding Fathers of the American nation as justification for his administration’s behaving like the people they were rebelling against.

I’m not siding with the American insurrectionists however. If they had just toughed it out and helped us bring the plundering Hanoverians to heel or even restore The Plantagenet dynasty (OK, they were wankers but they had a great name) the instead of the Jug Eared Jihadist America now has as it’s leaders, they could have had a loveable little old lady and her tree hugging, half wit son who is good for a laugh if nothing else.
