Coronavirus Psychotherapist: Lockdown Zealots Are Behaving Like Cult Members

The lockdown failed, but not without causting near – terminal damage to the economies of countries that followed WHO advice, so why are so many people demanding that we all stay under house arrest indefinitely?

Psychotherapist Dr Hugh Willbourn has joined the numbers of medical professionals and researchers pushing back against the fake science that has dominated government thinking for so long and led directly to lockdowns being ordered as the only way of avoiding atronomical (but totally fictitious,) numbers of COVID – 19 induced deaths. Dr. Willbourne says lockdown zealots are displaying all the classic signs of cult members by doubling down on their beliefs despite having been proven wrong and the “evidence” provided by their mathematical models completely debunked.

In an article which can be read online, Willbourn cites the work of respected social psychologist Leon Festinger, who analyzed the behaviour of a 1950s UFO cult the members of which believed that a flying saucer would rescue them from the coming nuclear apocalypse.

However, after the catastrophic earthquakes and floods they expected to hit the United States never arrived and their beliefs were totally disproved, “the cult members would become not less but more convinced of their beliefs.”

Festinger identified five conditions that needed to be met in order for the cult members to become more intense in their beliefs in spite of the cognitive dissonance involved.

1. There must be conviction

2. There must be commitment to this conviction

3. The conviction must be amenable to unequivocal disconfirmation

4. Such unequivocal disconfirmation must occur

5. Social support must be available subsequent to the disconfirmation.

“Festinger’s five conditions and the behaviour of the cult believers correspond closely to the situation with Brexit, Climate Change and Covid-19: a prophecy is made, believers invest themselves, their time, money and prestige in it, the prophecy fails and the believers become more fervent,” writes Willbourn..

We have certainly seen this with Brexit, the UK’s departure from the European Union despite a massive propaganda campaign from those who wished the UK to remain part of the Union and eventually become a financially and politically integrated province of a Federal European Superstate.

After the result of the refrerendum unexpectedly went against them these “Remainers” waged  another propaganda campaign, this time aimed at overturning the public vote by spreading fear and panic. They warned us the economy would collapse overnight (in fact it grew slightly faster than the EU economy at a time when the global economy was slowing down. They warned that unemployment would rise to unprecedented levels, in fact it fell. They took the government to court, won some Phyrric victories but could not change the national mood. They tried to tell us Britain, insignificant little Britain, was too small to survive outside the mighty European Union and were laughed at at it was pointed out that the UK has the fifth largest economy on the planet and a poulation of 60+ million. And still, even though we have formally left the EU and are in the process of deciding who gets to keep the pets, they rave about reversing the process.

We have seen it with climate change; we were told snow would be a thing of the past by the turn of the century but in recent years in Europe and North America many places have seen record snowfalls; we were told the polar ice caps would disappear, they’re still there; we were told that low lying nations would become uninhabitable because of rising sea levels – but those nations have experience population growth and no loss of land area. And still the Warmageddonist army  tried to turn the volume of their alarmist screeching up even though it is alread on eleven and has been for years.

The doctor notes how terrifying predictions of how many people COVID-19 would kill have fallen massively short and the models that produced these numbers have been thoroughly debunked. Despite warnings that coronavirus would kill 500,000 in the UK alone, the disease has only claimed 318,000 worldwide. And the lockdown fascists try to claim that the UK lockdown succeeded in reducing the number of deaths from 500,000 to 40,000, thus proving only that they are incapable of separating fact from fantasy.

Willbourn then goes on to put the scale of the COVID – 19 threat  this figure into perspective by reminding us the number of people who have died of, or with, Covid-19 in about four and half months is the same as the number who die in five days from cardiovascular disease.”

It is also worth remembering that the numbers of “COVID – related deaths” is less than the numbers who have died of tuberculosis ad seasonal ‘flu in the corresponding period.

In spite of all this and the incontrovertible evidence “experts” are still trying to ramp up the fear and panic, warning of mass death if lockdown is lifted too early and a second wave of infections takes place. The discredited Prof. Neil Ferguson, now exposed as a cunt – struck, communist conman whose mathematical model of the virus which led him to predict the fabled 500,000 deaths was discovered to have been full of errors and false assumptions and based on amateurish coding written by people who had never been computing professionals.

In reality, professionally conducted research has suggested the lockdowns had a minimal impact on infection numbers, and Sweden’s per capita death toll is lower than the UK’s and numerous other countries despite the Scandinavian country having imposed no hard lockdown and been widely crticized by fear and panic merchants for having not done so.

“Don’t expect an apology from our Government, or any other Government, any time soon,” Willbourn concluded. “The Festinger effect is far, far more prevalent than a clear-sighted view of reality and the tragedy is all the greater.”

“Is this starting to sound familiar?” asks journalist Toby Young. “As Willbourn points out, the sequence that Festinger wrote about more than 50 years ago is eerily reminiscent of what’s happening today: an apocalyptic prophecy was delivered from on high (“the science”), those who believed it radically altered their behaviour, the prophecy turned out not to be true, but instead of abandoning their doom-mongering the believers have become even more fervent, attacking anyone who points out the gap between fantasy and reality as dangerous heretics (“fake news”, “misinformation”, “conspiracy theories”, etc).”

“The difference, of course, is that Festinger’s UFO cult had a few dozen members, whereas the Covid cult seems to have infected half the world. If Festinger’s right, the bad news is we won’t be able to persuade people to stop social distancing if we prove that the danger posed by COVID-19 has been dramatically overstated. On the contrary, people’s opposition to returning to normal will intensify rather than diminish as the evidence mounts they were wrong.”

I have written many times in the past of the Church Of Scienceology Cult, a far more numerous quasi religion than the followers of L Ron Hubbard but no less loony. It is not yet clear whether the COVID – 19 cult is a breakway movement or a particularly fanatical sub – cult, like the climate change loonies who become more fanatical in their conviction that the world is about to be engulfed by an inferno of burning Carbon Dioxide! Yest for all their zealous devotion to The Science, actual, factual science is not a strength of such people.

A psychological study in the USA has concluded that Caucasians are expressing declining support for diversity.

In their study, which even a cursory examanation will reveal is deeply flawed, the psychologists conclude that white Americanshave come to view diversity and multiculturalism more negatively as the U.S. moves toward becoming a minority-majority nation, a team of UCLA psychologists report.

The researchers split a sample of 98 white Americans half male, half female, representative of regional, socio – economic classes and religious backgrounds, with an average age of 37, randomly into two groups. One group was told that whites will no longer be the majority in the U.S. by 2050; in fact, this is likely to be true as soon as 2043, according to some projections. The second group was told that whites would retain their majority status in the U.S. through at least 2050. All participants were then asked a series of questions about their views on diversity.

“Whites feel lukewarm about diversity when they are told that they are about to lose their majority status in the United States for the first time,” said Yuen Huo, UCLA professor of psychology and the study’s instigator.

Using a seven-point scale—where 1 meant “strongly disagree” and 7 meant “strongly agree”—subjects were asked how much they agreed or disagreed with statements like “One of the goals of our country should be to teach people from different racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds how to live and work together” and “Americans should understand that differences in backgrounds and experiences can lead to different values and ways of thinking.” Those who believed whites would continue to be the majority gave an average response of 5.67, while those who believed that whites would no longer be the majority gave an average response of just 5.15.

“We see a significant reduction in the endorsement of diversity when white Americans are exposed to current projections of future demographics,” said Felix Danbold, a UCLA psychology doctoral student and the paper’s lead author. “Most Americans view diversity in positive terms, but many white Americans who see the actual demographic projections, and the loss of their majority status, end up being less enthusiastic about it.”

Those in the study who identified themselves as Republicans gave average responses of 4.5, compared with 5.8 for Democrats and 5.7 for independents. Thirty-six percent of the participants were Democrats, 21 percent were Republicans and 31 percent were independents.

Support for diversity was also higher among women, with an average response of 5.7; men’s average response was 5.1.

The main problem with this study is the sample size is far too small to be meaningful, 98 people from a population of 330 million? It’s nowhere near a thousandth of one percent. How can such a small number be considered representative?

Secondly there is the question of how we define diversity for such a study.

The Liberal / progressive movement are so blinkered by their self righteousness they have lost sight of what constitutes diversity. They scream “DON’T LABEL US,” then proceed to label themselves with their identity politics, talking about gay rights, trans rights, black rights, Islamophobia, homophobia and such.
I have some gay friends that, if you met them casually, you would never think they are gay, yet if lefties find out they will tell my friends “You should be proud to be gay.”

Why? my friends would ask. It’s their business alone, all their friends know, nothing to do with anybody else.

On the other hand I had a friend, Charlie, (we lost touch some years ago, no fallout, life just took us in different directions,) who anybody would reasonably assumed from his body language, speech mannerisms and general behaviour, to be gay. He wasn’t, he didn’t question his maleness, he was just who he was (and was married to a lovely woman.)

One of the care providers who visited my late wife in her final illness, A…. is a Muslim. Hijab? Baggy clothes that hide her figure? No way, short skirts, skin tight leggings, revealing tops, false eyelashes and her black hair beautifully styled, that’s the person the world sees.

This is real diversity. I find it ironic that for the left wing activists who scream about equality, diversity is only skin deep and beneath the colour of our skin these social justice activists expect us all to conform to the stereotypes defined by the politically correct left. In my view it is the constant lecturing and haranguing from the far left about how we must accept this, do that, tolerate the other that is turning both Europeans and caucasian Americans against this manufactured diversity that is being imposed on us by the Politically Correct Thought Police.

United Nations set to impose global ban on criticism of Islam

We have reported before on The United Nations (UN), a supra – national organisation made up of elitists appointed by other elitists, overreaching its mandate and trying to act as a global government, imposing policies that nobody voted, formulated by bureaucrats that nobody voted for, for on the sovereign nations of the world.

Here’s the latest example of this globalist authoritaianism and it is probably the most worrying yet for citizens of the democratic nations. Nations belonging to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and other governments adhering to Shariah law across the world are ramping up their new campaign with the United Nations to prohibit all speech that Muslims consider offensive.

“Islamist nations … long have sought a determination from the United Nations that any criticism of Islam or Muslims is ‘Islamophobia’ and banned globally,’” WND reported, noting that with 57 members, the OIC represents the largest voting bloc in the U.N. “But each time it has come up for a vote, more realistic arguments prevailed and the campaign never was legitimized.”

After U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres unveiled the new “U.N. Strategy and Plan of Action” to fight so-called “hate speech” at a special meeting in the packed Economic and Social (ECOSOC) chamber, Pakistan Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi incited more support to silence any opposition to Islam and its adherents – including speech condemning Islam for its scriptural inciting of terrorists to conduct jihad (holy war) on “infidels.”

“An inevitable consequence is to fan the flames of bigotry, intolerance, anti-Muslim hatred and xenophobia,” Lodhi proclaimed before ambassadors, senior diplomats and high-ranking U.N. officials, as quoted in a press release, according to MSN. “My Prime Minister Imran Khan has recently again called for urgent action to counter Islamophobia, which is today the most prevalent expression of racism and hatred against ‘the other.'”

Guterres said the overarching goal of the U.N. plan is to identify, prevent and confront what the U.N. and Islamic nations consider “hate speech.”

In a report commissioned by the Government, Sir Eric Pickles, the former Conservative Cabinet minister, today warns that the authorities are in a “state of denial” and are “turning a blind eye” to election fraud.

Sweden: Authorities cancel traditional Christmas concerts, promote Islamic events

Sweden’s, and perhaps the world’s largest outdoor Christmas concert “Oh Holy Night”, which traditionally airs on Swedish national TV on Christmas Eve each year, has been cancelled, SVT news reports.

This is most likely yet another example of the Swedish governmenmt’s policy of suppressing ancient European traditions in order not to offend migrants who don’t hold Christian beliefs (a.k.a. Muslim extremists who hate everything Christian and European, who steal, rape and murder in the knowledge that even if the police bother to investigate their crimes – asking immigrant to obey Swedish law is racist according to left wing politicians in Sweden – can rely on the courts acting with extreme leniency in response to even the most serious of crimes.

Earlier incidents of this state sponsored de-Swedenication of Sweden include: replacing the image of Santa Lucia (December 21st), who according to the ancient Swedish Pagan Yule tradition always has been a long haired, blonde, beautiful woman, with a black boy.

At the same time Muslim culture and traditions are being intensely promoted:

On Midsummer’s Day (Sweden’s celebration of the sun at its height, the most culturally significant traditional holiday in the Swedish calendar) TV4 decided to let a woman in a hijab teach the Swedes how to cook kebab properly in preparation for Ramadan, the holy month of the Islamic calendar. It was a political gesture of course, cooking a kebab is not difficult. Ramadan is also celebrated with state funded public events in all Swedish cities with large migrant communities as well as on TV. In spite of protests from Christian and secular Swedes, authorities are allowing the Islamic call to prayer to be played through loudspeakers (at 110 dB), while at the same time banning bell rining in Christian churches (presumably bells are an abomination to Allah.)

Sadly, this is not confined to Sweden. Similar things are occurring throughout the liberal democracies of Western Europe, and will continue to occur as long as the ruling elites pursue immigrant friendly policies aimed at replacing the educated, well informed working classes of Europe with ignorant, illiterate (and therefore not capable of dissent) third world peasants.

In order to save ourselves we need to stand up for national cultures and traditions, and to stop accepting government’s efforts to force us to accept Islamic values and morals, ignore pro – Islamic laws such as the recent judgement in the European Court which makes ALL criticism of Islam subject to charges of blasphemy (meanwhile Muslims can say what they like about Christianity, Atheism, Paganism, humanism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Taoism,) In counties all over the European continent, along with the United States, Canada, Australia and South East Asia resistance to the ruling elite’s efforts to inject Islam into our way of life is growing. Prohibition of the Swedish Christmas tradition Lucia has sparked debate in Sweden. In Motala, the Lucia celebration has been cancelled at Kärrbacken School. According to preschool manager Anna Karmskog, they want to avoid discrimination, offensive treatment and do not want to “exclude” anyone.

I have worked in Sweden and been involved in a Lucia celebration (festival of light celebrating the day on which the sun passes its lowest point on the noon horizon and days start to lengthen. Special costumes are optional, all that is needed is a candle and something to catch wax, which can be fashioned out of tinfoil.

Left wing activist teachers, honouring the killjoy spirit we traditionally associate with the virtue signalling, politically correct left, say many children are rendered anxious and sad in a large crowd, and the “gender perspective” as the children “walk in a row” is questioned. In other words boys walk in one line, girls in another. The school did not discussed the cancellation with the parents, the leftist teachers simply imposed their prejudices.

In Mellerud, Åsen’s school decided to boycott the Lucia celebrations altogether, at both primary and middle school. A parent at the school, Ingrid Stewart, believes the ban has to do with religion and the hated of left wing staff towards Christianity and Swedish culture.

“I suspect it. Everyone does not feel comfortable with Lucia celebrations according to the school. But last week, the school celebrated Muhammad’s journey to heaven without even informing us.”, she says.

Some now say that the cancelled Lucia celebration is a prelude to cancel Christmas and force Swedes to adapt to Islam. Recently, to prevent terror attacks, barriers have also been set up at Christmas Markets in Malmö.Organi. Fortunately all this is strengthening the Sweden Democrats, the nationalist political party.

Comedian Konstantin Kisin turned down a lucrative university student union gig after being asked to sign a “behavioural agreement” restricting what he could do jokes about. The entertainer was warned about a “zero tolerance policy” on topics including racism, sexism and transphobia.

He had been invited to perform at the School of African and Oriental Studies (SOAS) in London,in an event  organised by university society Unicef on Campus. Konstantin told BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat the experience reflects a growing trend of free speech becoming stifled by politically correct attitudes on university campuses across the UK.

The group has since apologised and the Students’ Union says it “believes fully in freedom of speech”.

He shared the “behavioural agreement form” online, saying the title “nearly made me puke. I just think it reflects an attitude among a group of people, people at university particularly, where it seems that they have become places of indoctrination rather than learning,” he said.

“Students are being taught to prevent offence rather than to seek truth and pursue experiences.

“Universities used to be all about that, but now it seems they’re places where students are being taught to be woke. I think it reflects a broader issue, where increasingly there are people who value safety, or what they perceive to be safety.”

The full list of topics listed by the organisers were “racism, sexism, classism, ageism, ableism, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, xenophobia, Islamophobia or anti-religion or anti-atheism”.

The contract said: “It does not mean that these topics cannot be discussed. But it must be done in a respectful and non-abusive way.”‘

Western Nations Are Not The Only Ones Having Problems With Islam

Late last month the European Court of Justice (ECJ), an offshoot of the Cultural Marxist empire known as the European Union ruled that a woman who had referred to Mohammed, the prophet of Islam as a paedophile was guilty of blasphemy under Sharia Law it was the most abject, snivelling surrender yet by any western government or judiciary to the bullying and threats of fanatical Muslim hate preachers. Sharia Law has no standing in any non Muslim nation, what’s more it is a barbaric medieval legal codex that imposes sentences of death and torture for trivial offences.

The waily, gnashy – teethy snowflakes who are stupid and emotionally needy enough to believe if we are tolerant of Muslin intolerance we can somehow show them our way is best, refuse to accept that Islam poses any threat to civilised nations. The still insist that the grooming and rape gangs given licence by politically correct politicians in Britain to abuse vulnerable young women is ‘Fake News’ dreamed up by right wing extremists, in spite of two separate independent reports by sociologists finding failings on the part of police, government officials and politicians had allowed the crimes to go uninvestigated and the perpetrator unpunished.

Such people, who claim our culture is enriched by third world criminals, want government to encourage more mass migration form the third world shitholes, and to spend huge fortunes on persuading them to integrate into British society perhaps need to read this article on the problems large Muslim minorities cause, from a nation where an Islamic minority has existed for a thousand years and still has not integrated.

The Druze, like the Yazidi, are a small Middle Eastern religious sect whose faith is based on an eclectic system of doctrines including elements of Islam, Christianity, Zoroastrianism and Hinduism and is characterised by a cohesion and loyalty among its members (at times politically significant) that has enabled them to maintain for centuries the separate identity and close-knit communities of this distinctive faith. The Druze numbered more than 1,000,000 in the early 21st century and live mostly in Syria, and Lebanon, with smaller communities in Israel, Jordan, and abroad. At least 36 Druze women and children were taken by terrorists of the so-called “Islamic State” (IS) when the militant group’s guerillas attacked their village in the southern province of Sweida, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Monday.

The British watchdog organisation, which has operatives inside Syria, said the abductions took place on Wednesday during a massive assault by IS that left more than 200 people dead.

“Twenty women and 16 children were kidnapped by ‘Islamic State’ on July 25. Four of them managed to flee to Druze areas, two others died and 30 are still in captivity,” Rami Abdel-Rahman, the head of the Observatory, said.

He told French news agency AFP that 17 men from villages raided by IS were still unaccounted for, but it was unclear if they are captives or dead.Though the attackers carried IS flags the organisation has not yet claimed responsibility for the kidnappings and there are no details regarding them on its propaganda channels.

IS, which declared a self-styled “caliphate” in 2014 across Syria and Iraq, still holds small isolated areas of Syria’s southern desert. That includes parts of Sweida province  and pockets in the neighboring province of Daraa.

Sweida is mostly held by the Syrian government and has the highest concentration of the secretive Druze minority. The province has so far been relatively insulated from Syria’s seven-year civil war. Last week’s attacks were the bloodiest ever seen in the province, as well as some of the deadliest waged by IS in Syria.

Though largely defeated in Syria, Iraq and the Kurdish region of eastern Turkey, IS has established footholds in Libya, Afghanistan, Mali and other areas destabilised by western meddling in local affairs.

Government Fails Jewish School Over Lack of ‘Correct’ LGBT Teaching

A Jewish girls’ school in London has been failed for a third time by Education Department inspectors who claim it fell short of requirements set out in the Equalities Act to teach LGBT principles in general and homosexuality/gender reassignment issues in particular. The equalities act, you may remember is a pernicious piece of legislation pushed through by former Labour deputy leader and lobbyist on behalf of the Paedophile Information Exchange which at the time of Harman’s involvement was demanding as part of its “equal rites for paedophiles” position that the age at which it is legal to have sex with youg people be lowered to 4 (I’ll spell that so there is no room for confusion F-O-U-R) in the dying days of the last Labour government.

The Vizhnitz girls’ school caters to 212 students and has been visited by the UK’s Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted) to determine if it taught LGBT issues such as “sexual orientation.” Because it had not, it was gauged to have declined giving its pupils who are aged up to eight years old, a “full understanding of fundamental British values” and therefore the school is in breach of equality laws, according to the Jewish Press; (Jew hating, terrorist – loving, Corbyn supporting, racist, neo-Nazi, millennial snowflakes might want to fuck the fucking fuck off here, because while I’m, not trying to ‘trigger’ anyone I know such Jew – hating people can’t cope with views sympathetic to the Jewish community.) Schools that do not come up to Ofsted’s requirements must improve or face closure.

Just read that previous paragraph again. Our ‘progressive’ education system is now so dominated by paedophile loving, racist, left wing activists, they think the main purpose of primary education is to indoctrinate prepubescent children with Gay BLT propaganda. And this website would like to know when did being a turd burglar or rug muncher become part of “fundamental British values”. Keep sex in the bedroom and out of the classroom, that’s a fundamental British value.

The inspectors report on Vizhnitz school commented: “This restricts pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and does not promote equality of opportunity in ways that take account of differing lifestyles,” the Ofsted inspectors reported, pointing out that the students are being “shielded from learning about certain differences between people, such as sexual orientation.” As a result, “pupils have a limited understanding of the different lifestyles and partnerships that individuals may choose in present-day society.”

After spending an hour searching the web I could find no instance of a Muslim failth school being censured for failing to tech Gay BLT propaganda or tell publis they should multilate their reproductive organs in the name of political correctness. So now we find the education system of racist as well as biased towards the gay community.

The inspectors conceded that “the school’s culture is, however, clearly focused on teaching pupils to respect everybody, regardless of beliefs and lifestyle.” Right, so what’s the fucking problem. Why do Gay BLTs get special treatment when we are allowed to ridicule Christians, computer gamers, Train spotters, stamp collectors and people with ginger hair?

David Kurten MEP, the UKIP Education spokesman, said the state should not be forcing ideologies on children at the very youngest ages.

“Primary school children are far too young to be exposed to ideas such as the details of non-reproductive sexual acts and gender fluidity. Children deserve a childhood and the guise of ‘inclusion’ and ‘anti-bullying’ is being used to expose them to damaging ideas far too early, and to undermine and close down faith schools in favour of secularism.

“Yet secularism is not a neutral blank canvas of a worldview. Humanist and secularist groups have actively campaigned against faith schools for over a century. 99% of faith schools are Christian schools, and have done an excellent job of education children and young people in the UK since Augustine’s time in the 6th Century.

“Ofsted is now part of the red blob which is pushing cultural Marxism.”

Six other religious schools in the UK have also failed the same inspections in recent weeks.

Former Labour Minister: UK Can’t Defeat Terror Without Understanding Religion.

Former Labour Party  minister Kim Howells, who was responsible for military security under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, has suggested the Labour government of which he was a member was wrong to ignore the religious roots of Islamist terror, urging authorities to ‘take on’ the ideology to defeat terror.

While Blair was playing the Christian crusader as sidekick to US President George W Bush (and being reminded by his spin doctor Alistair Campbell that in Britain “we don’t do God” there was, Mr. Howells said, a failure to understand that Islamist violence is distinct from other forms of terror and Western values such as democracy must be defended. Presumably he is trying to tell his party the time for appeasement of Islamic extremism is gone, it’s time to push back.

“I was part of a Government that said: ‘Well, we don’t do God.’ he commented,  “But you can’t afford not to do God on this one, I think,” he told Wales Online.

“These people aren’t motivated – not on the most part, anyway – by money or some kind of nationalism. It’s different from the IRA. These people are prepared to kill themselves and they do it because they think it’s a shortcut to paradise…

“Unless people have enough courage to take that on and try and convince young people that the Caliphate is not a better way of running society than a democracy they are going to be lured to these organisations.”

Whilst some say Islamic terror is largely driven by grievances such as “Islamophobia”, “alienation”, marginalisation, poverty and Western foreign policy, Mr. Howells argues that in order to understand fundamentalist Islam’s loathing of western culture it is necessary to appreciate the importance of theological conflictsin Islamic societies.

“These guys are not just trying to kill unbelievers and Christians and so on. Their main enemy is another form of Islam,” he said, referring to the violent schism between Sunni and Shia Islam.

“Many other nations and ethnic groups have been affected by foreign interventions and discrimination, yet the vast majority of recent terror attacks have occurred in countries afflicted by Islamist insurgencies.”

It is true that western governments have failed to understand the deep rooted causes of Islamic extremism but this blog would argue that is not a failing on the part of western cultures. Rather it is not possible for westerners to understand the backward and tribalistic mindset of many subcultures in the Muslim world. How for example does one go about persuading randy young men who have been indoctrinated with the idea that women are unclean, their only purposes being to serve men and to produce babies, to understand that in the west women are independent beings, free to dress how they wish and go freely wherever they want to in the same way men are. Or to make fundamentalists understand that while nobody is going to make Muslims or Jews eat pork and ham, we accept the right to eat those foods in accordance with the values and traditions of our culture, and they must learn to live alongside pork eaters.

If we cannot do that, and I suspect we can’t, then we in the secular democracies must accept that mass immigration from certain Muslim cultures is not going to work, that some people just cannot accept that while we respect their right to worship as they wish, we expect them to afford us the same respect, even if in the cases of many of us it means that we choose not to worship but use our right to freedom of speech to argue against religion. Because until they are able to grant our values the same respect as they demand we grant theirs, fundamentalist Islam and secular society can never live side by side.
