Russia Warns Attack On Saudi Oil Plant Will Hit Fuel Prices

World’s largest oil refinery ablaze after Houthi rebels drone strike (picture: Screen grab from Sky News video )

Following the drone attack by Yemeni rebels on a major Saudi Arabian oil processing plant, The Kremlin’s warned that the loss of production from the stricken plant will destabilise oil prices worldwide.  This follows statements by the European Union and the UK condemning the Houthi drone attacks on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities carried out on Saturday (14 September, 2019).

While President Trump made belligerent noises, guaranteed to provoke the rebels Shia Muslim supporters in Iran , Russian President Vladimir Putin has simply asked to b kept up to date on developments in the wake of two drone attacks on the major Saudi energy facilities.  Russia believes such incidents will not contribute to the stabilisation of the global energy market, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said. It is safe to assume Russia’s leaders see the incident as an opportunity to benefit from higher crude oil prices.

“The drone attacks on Saudi Arabia’s oil infrastructure are an alarming event for the oil markets…Of course, such turbulence does not contribute to the stabilisation of the energy market,” Peskov said.

According to Peskov, the Saudi side has not appealed to Russia for assistance in the wake of the attacks, and probably has the necessary capacity to deal with the disruption on their own. “We don’t know whether they need help, but it’s unlikely. They have all the necessary capabilities themselves,” he said.

Peskov said the Kremlin “strongly condemned” Saturday’s incident, if it could be confirmed that the Saudi Aramco facilities were attacked by drones. (He would say that, wouldn’t he?)

EU, UK, France Condemn Attacks

Earlier on Sunday morning, the European Union’s foreign policy office issued a statement condemning the drone attacks, which, the statement read, posed a “real threat” of escalation of the Saudi – Yemeni conflict into full scale war between two regional powers, Saudi Arabia and Iran, and adding that “at a time when tensions in the region are running high, this attack undermines ongoing work at de-escalation and dialogue.” Brussels stands in solidarity with Saudi authorities and the Saudi people, the statement noted.

The UK Foreign Office also condemned the attack in diplomatic terms although certain people in The Treasury must have been rubbing their hands with glee as it becomes economically viable to reopen many North Sea rigs if Brent Crude goes above $80. China too would not be disappointed as Saudi Arabia is a long term ally of the USA, while the smaller oil producers most likely to benefit from the Saudi outage are more friendly to The People’s Republic in its bid to establish the petroyuan as a rival to the Petrodollar for cross border oil trades.

We have reported many times on the merciless bombing of the impoverished Shia Muslim state of Yemen. The conflict started when rebels tried to depose the Saudi – friendly regime and spawned a huge humanitarian crisis which was barely reported in mainstream media, as Saudi air strikes targeted roads, water supplies, sewage systems, hospitals and ports.

Predictably, news of the attack drove financial and commodity traders traders into a collective panic as global markets reopened after the weekend break, with with commodity traders desperately trying to calculate what the upper limit per barrel of oil prices would be (the previous record of $1.09 might hold when markets realise that while Saudi Arabia is still the world’s second biggest producer it is not as dominant as it once was, having been passed by the USA in 2018, and if the Kingdom and Iran decide to neutralise each other, Russia, Venezuela, Kazakhstan, the nations of the Caspian region, Nigeria , Mexico and a host od smaller oil producing nations will be happy to pump more once higher prices make production economically viable. When brent (the highest grade of crude,) reopened for trading in the aftermath of Saturday’s attack on the “world’s most important oil processing plant“, the price immediately exploded to around 20% higher than at close of business on Friday, to a high of $71.95 from the Friday $60.22 close, its biggest jump since 1988.

The hit to stability of supplies will exceed the loss of Iranian oil output in 1979 during the Islamic Revolution, according to data from the U.S. Department of Energy. It will also be worse than the loss of Iraqi and Kuwaiti production in 1990 when Saddam Hussein decided to annex Kuwait and add it to his empire and saw most of the oil infrastructure of both nations destroyed in the ensuing war.

News that the Saudi outage could last for months, rather that the weeks initially predicted suggest this could be just the start. Even if there are no more attacks on Saudi facilities or retaliation by the Saudis on Iran, the supply problem will not be be clear right away. The Saudis can still deliver from reserves for a few weeks but if the outage runs to months as industry sources are now predicting, we can expect crude prices to keep rising until there is relable evidence that output will be restored.

The Saudi-led military coalition which has been waging a genocial war on Yemen has now sent more than 10,000 troops towards a strategically important rebel-held port city ahead in preparation for a new assault on what is descriobed as Yemen’s humatitarian lifeline, Yemeni government officials said on Tuesday.

The Sunni Muslim coalition deployed the reinforcements to the Red Sea coast ahead of a new offensive on Hodeidah that will be launched “within days”, a military official told the AFP news agency. He said they would also “secure areas liberated” from the Houthi rebels, and that forces from Sudan, part of the coalition, had moved in to “secure” areas around the city.

The aim of this latest assault is to starve the people of the Shia – dominated nation into submission. Saudi coalition boming and artillery assaults have already reduced much of Yemen’s vital infrastructure, including transport systems, hospials, water and sewerage sytems and the electrical grid and communications network to rubble.

Houthi rebels have for the past 10 days been stationing fighters on rooftops of buildings in Hodeidah city, government military officials told AFP. The port is the entry point for three-quarters of imports to the impoverished country, which is teetering on the edge of famine and suffering epidemic levels of infectious diseases due to lack of medicines.

Saudi Arabia and its allies intervened in Yemen in 2015 to support President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi’s government after the Houthis ousted it and took swathes of territory including the capital Sanaa. The coalition has used air power to push the rebels back from much of Yemen, but the Houthis have held onto Hodeidah and Sanaa.

SHOCK (not): Khashoggi Remains Discovered In Garden Of Saudi Consul General’s Home: Sky News

Jamal Khashoggi

Shortly after Turkish President Erdogan demanded that Saudi Arabia disclose the where the body of (allegedly) murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s had been dumped, body parts thought to be from the dismembered body of Khashoggi have been found, according to Turkish and Greek sources, though the exact location wasn’t revealed. According to anonymous sources, including one cited by Sky News, the writer had been “cut up” and his face “disfigured.”

One report claimed Khashoggi’s remains had been discovered in the garden of the Saudi consul general’s home. “Why has the body of someone who was officially said to be killed not been found yet?” Erdogan asked during his speech at Turkey’s parliament on Tuesday. He added that the Saudi nationals arrested by Turkish police and security forces in connection with the killing should stand trial in Istanbul.

The circumstances surrounding the discovery of Khashoggi’s body parts make nonsense of Saudi Arabia’s explanation for his death. According to the Saudis, Khashoggi’s body was handed off to a local fixer being wrapped in a rug after he was killed by ‘rogue elements’ trying to discredit the Saudi Government. Though Erdogan didn’t mention Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman (a fanatical Islamist known as Mad Mo, who has been the director of the Saudi genocidal war on Yemen,) in his speech, the kingdom and the prince have denied his involvement.

Saudi Arabia Condemns UN Report On Yemen War Crimes

Yemeni’s bury their dead after yet another Saudi air raid.

A report released by the UN this week confirmed in considerable detail misdeeds by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, killing thousands of civilians in Yemen, raping and torturing detainees, and using child soldiers. In a masterpiece in understatement the report warned these may amount to war crimes.

While the Saudis didn’t dispute any of this, their government was reportedly furious about the report, angrily condemning it as having “misconstrued the facts of the conflict… ignoring the true reasons for the conflict,” while saying that it was an Iranian coup against the “legitimate government in Yemen.”

While previous UN resolutions more or less accepted the Saudi narrative that the war is meant to reinstall the Hadi government, that massive death toll and the many, many war crimes committed have fueled a lot of international consternation.

Still, UN reports detailing war crimes by the Saudi coalition have been met by Saudi condemnation, and in the past that, combined with US support for the war, has been enough to keep the UN from doing anything in particular about the situation.

The UN General Assembly has repeatedly acquiesced to demands that the Saudis be allowed to investigate themselves on the war, which has meant probes are rare, and never come up with anything meaningful.

While it is gratifying to see this forgotten war being properly reported in mainstream media at last, one can’t help contrasting the belated coverage of the four year old Muslim on Muslim conflict and the near silence with which liberal talking heads have responded to it, to the chorus of outrage that has greeted the attacks on Rohingya muslims in Myanmar, or the genicidal campaigns of Sunni Muslims against Christians, Jews, Yazidi and Druze in Syria, Iraq and northern Iran.

Myanmar has been the site of serious conflicts between Buddhist and Muslim communities, particularly in Rakhine State where at least 146,000 persons have been displaced since the first riots in June 2012. This violence has prompted international organizations dedicated to early warning of mass violence to issue alarms, but the dynamics of this conflict are understood differently in Myanmar. In May, three Nobel laureates called violence and persecution of Muslims in Myanmar “nothing less than genocide.” A few days later, U Zaw Aye Maung, the Rakhine Affairs Minister for Yangon Region, was quoted by the Reuters news agency as saying, “if genocide was taking place in Rakhine State, then it was against ethnic Rakhine Buddhists.

It seems the attitude of mainstream media and western liberals is that genocides of Christians, Jews, Buddhist, Hindus and regional sects by Muslims are OK, because “Multiculturalism,” but anybody who tries to defend their home or culture against Muslim aggression is a racist.

Leaked Documents reveal UK gov’t secretly supports Saudi military action against Yemen

Yemenis defiant amid the destruction (Source: http://www.knownterrorists.com)

Last month the war in Yemen slipped, unremarked by mainstream media, unnoticed by the oh-so-politically-correct talking heads on television,  into its fourth year.If the war was simply a falling out between Yemen’s Sunni Muslim government supported by Saudi Arabia and the Shia Muslim Houthi rebels, supported by Iran, there would be s strong case for non intervention, given that western interventions elsewhere in the middle east have only tended to make things worse.

Unfortunately there being no FUKUS axis (France, UK, USA,) forces on the ground in Yemen does not mean the western powers are not involved. While Yemen is being pounded on a daily basis by bombs dropped by Saudi warplanes armed with missiles and weapons supplied by the three FUKUS axis powers, Iran’s support of the rebels is of a lower level. After three years of Saudi air attacks the rebels are still fighting, but the suffering inflicted on Yemeni civilians is not far from genocidal.

The country has a huge humanitarian crisis with many people now suffering from malnutrition, disruption of water supplies has led to disease epidemics because there is only contaminated water to drink and with many hospitals and medical centres having been deliperately targeted by Saudi airstrikes there is a chronic shortage of medicines.

Mainstream media likes to present wars as being fought between the good guys in white hats and bad guys  in black hats:Things are rarely that simple, and certainly not in this case. The Saudi Arabian government is an absolute monarchy that takes as its legal codex the medieval Sharia Law prescribed by the founders of Islam, the fundamentalist Wahhabi Muslim sect of the ruling Saud family exerts great power and the nation’s enormous wealth and vast oil reserves grant it immunity from United Nations censure.
Western leaders say the Saudis are the white hats because of their money and oil and because, when it suits them, they cooperate with NATO, the EU and the USA.

Iran is a theocracy run by Shia religious leaders. It too is under Sharia Law, in much of the nation women and girls are treated as property and punishments are harsh for what can seem to people in the developed nations, relitavely trivial offences. In western media Iran is represented by black hats. In both nations women can be publicly stoned or flogged for disobeying their husbands or fathers and the penalty for adultery is public beheading.

Both sides wear dark grey hats then. But what of the war, is anything being done to mediate between the two sides?

UN Security Council investigators have documented violations of international humanitarian law by all sides with human rights officials claiming the “leading cause” of civilian casualties are airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition, (Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates,) which backs Yemen’s President Hadi against the rebels, supporters of the more moderate and secular regime of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh. Houthi artillery and missile attacks in reponse aremorally no different but are delivered with vastly inferior technology and less destructive weapons. The rebel strikes are also less numerous, Iran does not want an all out war with Saudi Arabia and probably cannot match what the Sudis are spending on armaments.

The  British involvement in a war the UK government has called the world’s largest humanitarian crisis is somewhat greater than government ministers are prepared to admit according to leaked documents.

Throughout the Yemen conflict and long before, Saudi Arabia has been by far the biggest  customer of Britain’s  armaments and military technology industry. Half of all UK exports of weapons and military equipment from 2013 to 2017 went to the Arab kingdom. Most sales were for the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF), 151 of whose 324 combat aircraft are British-supplied, along with weapons, radar and other ground systems, parts and spares.

Faced with legal and political criticism, the UK government denies any responsibility for – and claims it cannot necessarily control or even know – how UK-supplied weapons are used by overseas buyers, Last July the High Court agreed with that view (though activists are now applying to appeal that decision).

The recent revelations about the UK’s relationship with the Saudi military challenges this ‘flog and forget’ theory of arms trade. Under a sequence of binding agreements between the two nations, the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) and its contractors supply not only military ‘hardware’, but also software and “liveware” in the form of expert military personnel to train and advise customers armed forces. Around 7000 people – civilian employees, British civil servants and seconded Royal Air Force personnel – are present in Saudi Arabia to advise, train, service and manage British-supplied combat aircraft and other military equipment.

The government has repeatedly assured Parliament that these personnel are strictly hands-off: “there is no British involvement in targeting or weaponizing aircraft to undertake missions in Yemen” one of the leaked documents says. They also insist that neither UK military nor civilian personnel “are involved in the loading of weapons for operational sorties, nor are they involved in the planning of operational sorties“.

Over the past eighteen months, investigative reporters working with the support of the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust,  have sought to map these British and British-employed personnel in Saudi Arabia, trying to understand their work and their experiences. The precise numbers and functions have remained obscure, even in liberal, democratic Britain people who reveal such details tend to disappear or become victims of ‘bizarre gardening accidents’ and such . The UK-Saudi agreements that govern their work are classified ‘UK Confidential/RSAF Secret‘ and are closed from public release until 2027. Even UK ministers say they “do not have full visibility of the prime contractor’s manpower footprint in Saudi Arabia.

As these agreements show, the umbrella contract between UK and the Saudis requires that “United Kingdom civilian and military personnel will remain available in Saudi Arabia for preparation, including arming and support, of the [Tornado fighter-bomber] aircraft during an armed conflict” in which Saudi Arabia is involved, though these personnel may not “participate” in the conflict directly. The clause makes no reference to the authorisation by parliament or lawfulness of such a conflict.

British diplomats have always been concerned about the implications of this commitment, and have lobbied both Conservative and Labour governments for the clause to be removed.

“At worst”, the Foreign Office’s Middle East Department warned the MoD  , “this clause could expose HMG (Her Majesty’s Government) to accusations that they were involved in an undercover role in  unlawful military adventures; at best, it might threaten to compromise British neutrality in armed conflicts between third States.” Papers elsewhere in the National Archives show that the commitment was removed from a draft version of the agreement circulated within Whitehall six weeks before signature. It nonetheless seems to have been re-inserted into the final agreement at some stage, thus bypassing they scrutiny of elected representatives.

Here’s The Real Reason Why The Deep State Is Pushing Trump To War In Syria

Prince Mohammed bin Salman (Mad Mo) looks mightily pleased with himself afer shafting young King Felipe of Spain up the arse on his whistle stop tour of Europe. (image source: Yahoo news)

Everyone in the world (well everyone with more tits or testicles than braun cells,) knows that Assad is not stupid (educated in Britain he is a doctor and ophthalmologist) so why would he decide to gas women and children and turn the entire world against him, when he has won the war against Islamic extremism and only has to mop up a few pockets of resistance. Launching a chemical weapons strike just for laughs, only days after Trump announced a US pullout from Syria is something Obama might have done after snorting a few lines of Pablo Escobar’s Special, but to a sane person it would be unthinkable.

So, as we are all quite sure the attack, if there was actually an attack because they only reports we have come from organisations linked to ISIS / Al Nusra, was a false flag, why are the crazy neocons in Washington pushing Trump to war?

Might it be something to do with this?

A few days ago China launched a rival reserve currency to The Petrodollar

The gold backed Yuan, which they, and Russia, Iran, Turkey, India and many more South East Asian and Pacific nations, have vowed to use to sell/purchase oil (amongst other things).

The last two nations that tried to introduce a currency to compete against the petrodollar were Libya and Iraq. Unfortunately for supports of the U.S. global hegemony project, China and Russia are a different proposition than Libya and Iraq.

The US and its allies Saudi Arabia need a pipeline through Syria more than ever now, especially if they are to compete for European gas/oil markets (presently controlled by Russia and their pipeline) and the Chinese Yuan.

Significantly, Saudis crown prince Mohammed bin Salman (Mad Mo) just wrapped up a US PR tour and is now in France. Western leaders and mainstream media “liberals” are creaming in their pants over the Saudi leader, hailing him as a visionary, renaissance man, conveniently forgetting that Mad Mo has been the driving force behind Saudi Arabia’s U.S. backed war on Yemen.

They have, since Obama stated that the U.S. prority in Syria was not to defeat the ISIS terror army but to remove ‘the brutal dictator’ Assad (and put a far more brutal theocracy in his place) failed to report fully or accurately on how the Saudi war machine has been slaughtering Yemeni citizens by the thousands, or how his Saudi dictatorship is one of the most repressive regimes in the world.

Also forgotten is that Saudi Arabia supported Al Qaeda during the 9/11 terrorist attack, and have admitted funding and training al Qaeda and ISIS terrorists in Syria, terrorists that make their way to Europe, and eventually run over innocent people with cars and trucks.

No matter, Mad Mo (and his billions in cash) has the ear of Trump and Frances Grandmotherfucker Macron, now both the US and France are giddy about attacking Syria. Forget the moralising, as always it’s really about money and power.

More on how the USA and its allies Israel and Turkey have been central to the criminal business of stealing oilf from wells rightflly owned by Iraq and the autonomous Kurdish region and laundering it through Turkey into western markets and how the Turkish crook President Recep Edrogan is making hundreds of millions of dollars from the trade.

Turkish Convoy Allegedly Carrying Weapons To ISIS Bombed In Syria
Yesterday we brought you the news that Bilal Edrogan, the son of Turkey’s President Recep Edrogan was the war criminal ‘entrepreneur’ behind the tanker convoys that have been transporting oil from well in areas controlled by Islamic State, to Turkey and moving millions of US dollars in the other direction to fund the terrorist group’s war against civilized values.

UK ‘complicit in Yemen’s destruction’ – activist attacks government on eve of Saudi visit (VIDEO)

The UK’s arms for oil deals with Saudi Arabia make it “utterly complicit in the destruction of Yemen,” Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) activist Andrew Smith, speaking on RT’s Going Underground said. The government has committed to billions of pounds worth of arms deals with Saudi Arabia, one of the UK armaments industry’s largest customers. The Islamic fundamentalist kingdom is driving the coalition waging an air-and-sea campaign against Houthi forces in Yemen. The fighting has led to 10,000 deaths and left millions more in need of humanitarian aid as supplies of food, pure water and medical supplies cannon reach the beleaguered nation.

The UK/Saudi relationship is such that the kingdom’s Crown Prince and effective ruler Mohammad bin Salman will visit the UK on March 7. Bin Salman’s visit is expected to be the precursor for further UK-Saudi arms deals. The Prince will be entertained by members of the British Royal Family at Windsor Castle.

CAAT is one of several groups organizing protests against visit. In the interview with Afshin Rattansi, Smith attacked the UK government and foreign secretary for hypocrisy, stating: “Even Boris Johnson has called it [Yemen] the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, yet it’s a humanitarian crisis caused in part by weapons licensed by Boris Johnson and his colleague.

That condemnation may embarrass the government as the UK stands accused of concealing the extent of its support for Saudi Arabia’s bombing of Yemen. A significant increase in the number of arms-export licenses from the UK to Saudi Arabia has been revealed by the Middle East Eye.

Since 2015 and the start of the war in Yemen, the UK has reportedly used standard arms licenses to sign off on over $6.4 billion of arms deals to Saudi Arabia. The deals have included fighter jets and munitions.

US Gov’t Proves Loyalty To ISIS And Saudi Arabia Bill To ‘Stop Arming Terrorists’ Gets Only 13 Supporters

In a rare outbreak of common sense, a bill barring the US Federal Government from giving money and weapons to child murdering terrorists like the head amputators, slave dealers and human organ noshers of ISIS and Al Nusra (Barack Obama’s beloved ‘moderate rebels’,) garnered hardly any support from either the Democratic Perpetual War Party, or the Republican War Is Good Business Party.

In Escalating War Of Words, Saudi Crown Prince Calls Iran’s Ayatollah “New Hitler Of The Middle East”

161123-mohammed_bin_salman-10a_0cc684ac21c2375befa5c236a5629504-nbcnews-fp-1200-800

Saudi Arabia’s powerful, and controversial, 32-year-old Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as we warned earlier in the year when he was elevated to his currrent status, has in a few months has made more local (and foreign) enemies than most of his predecessors accumulated over a lifetime, appears to have decided he does not need to wait any longer for the final war that will cement the global supremacy of his particularly unpleasant brand of Islamic extremism.
In an interview with the New York Times’ Thomas Friedman, which covered a wide range of topics including the recent power grab anti-corruption campaign, to Donald Trump, to the Saudi social and religious revolution, bin Salman (MbS to his friends,) called the Ayatollah Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran “the new Hitler of the Middle East”. This signals his intention to escalate the war of words between the arch-rivals. For his part, Khamenei has referred to the House of Saud as an “accursed tree”, and Iranian officials have accused the kingdom of spreading terrorism.

MbS, who after the recent night of the long knives purge anti corruption campaign is also now the Saudi defense minister and holder of any other job he fancies, slapped down the ISIS card and suggested the Islamic Republic’s alleged expansion under Ayatollah Ali Khamenei needed to be confronted.

“But we learned from Europe that appeasement doesn’t work. We don’t want the new Hitler in Iran to repeat what happened in Europe in the Middle East,” the paper quoted him as saying.

As reported previously, tensions between Iran and the Saudi Kingdom were ratched up again this month when Lebanon’s Saudi-allied Prime Minister Saad Hariri resigned in a television broadcast from Riyadh, citing the influence of Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon and risks to his life. Hezbollah called the move an act of war engineered by Saudi authorities, an accusation they denied.

The NYT subtitled the Friedman interview “The crown prince has big plans to bring back a level of tolerance to his society”, which is ironic considering MbS, a supporter of the most intolerant version of Islam, the fundamentalis Wahhabi sect, just rounded up most of his country’s wealthiest and most liberal citizens and gave them an ultimatum: your money or your freedom. And speaking of extortions, the Crown Prince said that 95% of of suspects agree to a “cash settlement”, adding that the public prosecutor expects govt to recover about “$100 billion in settlements.”

Saudi Arabia desperately needs cash: with oil refusing to rise to its previous level of $100/barrel, Riyadh is hard-pressed to continue funding its ongoing war of aggression against neighboring Yemen, now in its third year. As happened in Syria where President Assad’s forces, backed by Iran and Russia defied the terrorists of ISIS, a movement supplied by the USA and NATO and funded by Saudi Arabia and Qatar. So far Saudi Arabia’s mercenaries have failed to to defeat the Iranian-aligned Houthi movement that seized broad swaths of the country.

Salman told the New York Times that the war was going in its favor and that its allies controlled 85% of Yemen’s territory. Which of course, is meaningless: the Houthis still retain the main population centers despite the war effort by a Saudi-led military coalition which receives intelligence and refueling for its warplanes by the United States.

Some 10,000 people have died in the conflict, largely thanks to weapons made in the US.

Ominously, Bin Salman said in May that the kingdom would make sure any future struggle between the two countries “is waged in Iran.” Now that Israel is openly on the side of Saudi Arabia in the upcoming middle-east war, said Iran-based “struggle” may be imminent.

US Aiding Massive Genocide in Yemen at Behest of Saudi Arabia

As usual The Daily Stirrer was moths ahead of the mainstream in reporting this.

Civilians in Yemen are still in the grip of a major humanitarian crisis as Saudi Arabia’s war on the impoverished republic continues unabated. Shocking numbers are affected including 7 million civilians facing severe malnutrition, and 19 million out of the country’s 27 million population “in need of some form of aid.” However, all of this is made worse by the Saudis having imposed a blockade on humanitarian support. It effectively genocide and yet the United Nations does nothing and the USA and NATO allies impose sanctions on nations which try to help Yemen.

Yemen has been devastated by more than two years of brutal civil war, with Sunni Muslims loyal to the oppressive regime, supported by the Saudi Arabian government’s well equipped military and politically by the United States. President Abd-Rabu Mansour Hadi’s government is backed by the Saudi-led coalition and is fighting to drive the Shi’ite Houthi rebels out of cities they seized in 2014 and 2015.

Since the beginning of the conflict, US support for Saudi Arabia in Yemen, started by Obama and continued by Trump, thousands of innocent civilians—including children—have been slaughtered by American and European manufactured weapons. In spite of the fact that the Saudis have been caught dropping US bombs on schools, hospitals, and marketplaces, (remember the faux outrage from liberal media and politicians when Assad’s forces were accused of doing that in Syria, even though a blind, deaf and dumb person could have seen those alleged atricities were false flag events.) The Saudis and their mercenaries have been directly targeting civilians yet the US and NATO continue to support the side controlled by the Saudis.

Last week, Houthi rebels in Yemen launched a ballistic missile toward the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh. In response to the attack which killed no one, the Saudis placed a blockade on all flights in Yemen, including humanitarian aid. The blockade has stopped the flow of the much needed medical supplies and the food for which millions of Yemenis are desperate and if not reversed will cause the largest genocide by starvation in modern history.

After briefing the UN Security Council last week, Mark Lowcock, the UN’s humanitarian chief, said the move will worsen a “catastrophic” humanitarian crisis that has pushed millions to the brink of famine and has caused a mass cholera epidemic, reports Al Jazeera. It is a safe bet however that three permanent members of the Security Council, Britain, France and USA will veto any move for actionagainst the Saudis.

“I have told the Council that unless those measures are lifted … there will be a famine in Yemen,” Lowcock, who visited Yemen late in October, told reporters last week. “It will not be like the famine that we saw in South Sudan earlier in the year, where tens of thousands of people were affected. It will not be like the famine which cost 250,000 people their lives in Somalia in 2011,” he added.

In spite all this being common knowledge, for three years the West has seen what was happening yet stood on the sidelines and refused to act. Strangely the same nations were eager to get involved in Syria and Ukraine until it became clear the price would be confrontation with Russia. Children are starving by the thousand in Yemen because of a US / NATO policy of supporting Saudi Arabia no matter what war crimes and human rights abuses the primitive theocracy is guilty of. All Western nations are complicit as is the United Nations by not only failing to step in and stop it but actually aiding it.

Qatar Balks At Saudi Ultimatum That Would Force It To Surrender Sovereignty

Immediately after Saudi Arabia and its Gulf State client shiekdoms released an ultimatum containing 13 demands to which Qatar must agree as a precondition for the resumption of diplomatic ties and an end of the Saudi economic and naval blockade, the tiny kingdom on the Persian Gulf described the ultimatum as neither “reasonable” nor “realistic”, and claimed it would infringe on Qatar’s sovereignty.

“This list of demands confirms what Qatar has said from the beginning – the illegal blockade has nothing to do with combating terrorism, it is about limiting Qatar’s sovereignty, and outsourcing our foreign policy” said  Sheikh Saif Al Thani, of Qatar’s official communications office, according to Bloomberg.

The full list contained demands  such as reducing Qatar’s diplomatic representation in Iran, cancelling the Turkish military base being established there (Turkey has already balked at the threat), severing ties with terrorist organizations, shutting down Al Jazeera and all affiliated channels, and so on. The demands are explicitly aimed at dismantling Qatar’s two-decade-old interventionist foreign policy, which has reflected the clout generated by its vast natural gas and oil wealth but incensed conservative Arab peers over its alleged support for extremist groups they regard as threats to their dynastic rule.

Al Thani dismissed the demands and said the list is “under review”, but only “out of respect for our brothers in Kuwait” whose emissary delivered the Saudi demands on Friday (22 June). Al Thani said that the demands do not meet the US and UK criteria for “reasonable and realistic measures.”

Meanwhile Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said it will soon issue an official response, one which we doubt Saudi Arabia will like as the bid/ask in the early stage of the negotiations is being established.

“The State of Qatar is currently studying this paper, the demands contained therein and the foundations on which they were based, in order to prepare an appropriate response,” the ministry told Channel News Asia.

On Friday, Qatar’s news outlet Al Jazeera responded to Saudi demands that it be shut down as part of the “renormalization” process. “We in the network believe that any call for closing down Al Jazeera is nothing but an attempt to silence the freedom of expression in the region and to suppress people’s right to information,” Al Jazeera said in a statement.

“By accepting those demands and conditions Qatar will be subject to international accountability and violating its commitments regarding human rights conventions,” Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee said in a statement cited by Reuters.

Meanwhile, a senior United Arab Emirates official told Reuters what would happen if Qatar refused to comply with the Arab ultimatum, saying there would be a “parting of ways.”

“The alternative is not escalation, the alternative is parting of ways, because it is very difficult for us to maintain a collective grouping,” UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash told reporters.

Gargash urged Qatar to meet the demands. “It would be wiser that [Qatar] deal seriously with the demands and concerns of the neighbors or a divorce will take place,” Anwar Gargash said on Twitter in Arabic, adding, that “the crisis is profound.”

UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash

In other words, another attempt at a backdoor deal orchestrated by Saudi Arabia failed because someone leaked something, only this time it didn’t involve Trump being a KGB secret agent.

Gargash said that if Qatar fails to comply within the 10-day timeline set out in the ultimatum, it will be isolated. But he did not make clear what more could be done since the four Arab nations have already cut diplomatic relations with Doha and severed most commercial ties.

Despite verbal assurances that there will be no further escalation, Qatar is preparing for the worst, as two contingents of Turkish troops with columns of armored vehicles have arrived in Doha since the worst crisis among Gulf Arab states for years erupted on June 5.

The uncompromising positions adopted by both sides leave little prospect for a quick end to the crisis. The sanctions have disrupted Qatar’s main import routes by land from Saudi Arabia and by sea from big container ships docked in the United Arab Emirates. But Qatar so far has avoided economic collapse by quickly finding alternative channels (mainly through Iran which made the Saudis even more pissed off) and says its huge financial reserves will meet any challenges.
