Tommy Robinson Arrested for Live Reporting Grooming Gang Trial

In a time of universal deceit, teling the truth becomes an act of rebellion – George Orwell

Tommy Robinson arrested outside Leeds Crown Court

Despite public inquiries having shown that police, social services departments, local government officials and even the politicians in national government responsible for law and order and public safety lied and lied and lied and lied in their efforts to cover up the sexual abuse crimes perpetrated by Muslim men on vulnerable white girls in Rotherham, Yorkshire, thus making all levels of government and public service complicit in those crimes, the authorities are STILL trying to prevent concerned citizens telling the truth about what has happened and is still happening in Rotherham.

Law and Order activist and independent journalist Tommy Robinson was arrested this morning and taken to jail after an elite squad of South Yorkshire police mindless thugs detained him outside Leeds Crown Court, where he was reporting on yet another child grooming gang trial. Under Sharia law, which is now the paramount law in The Islamic Republic of South Yorkshire it seems, it is not illegal for Muslim men to have sex with very young children.

Robinson, former leader of the English Defence League protest movement but later joined the Quilliam counter-extremism organisation, was at the court to report on the trial of ten men accused of offences including child rape, trafficking, and supply of class A drugs to children, according to Caolan Robertson.

A video posted by Caolan shows Robinson being taken away by three police officers, apparently on suspicion of inciting a breach of the peace.

The recording of Robinson’s arrest shows an officer apparently seize his mobile phone before he is bundled into the back of a van. The exact number of officers at the scene is unclear, but at least half a dozen appear to be involved to arrest a man for simply reporting events as they happen.

“This is free speech. This is where we’re at,” Robinson tells onlookers, before addressing the officers directly.

“You know when you do this, more people are going to watch this now than ever,” Robinson tells them.

“This is ridiculous. Lads, do you feel right what you’re doing, here? I haven’t said a word — in fact, someone laid their hand and assaulted me outside court; other people swore at me and threatened me about my mother, and here I am being arrested for saying nothing. I’ve done nothing,” he claims.

The 10 accused grooming gang members are now on trial at Leeds Crown Court. Charges include child rape, trafficking & supply of class A drugs to children. Welcome to Britain.

A video posted prior to the arrest does appear to show Robinson asking two men how they feel about the verdict, to which one responds: “Go and f**k your Mum’s fanny, go and f**k it!”

“Is there any guilt?” responds Robinson.

“You f**k your Dad, you son of a bitch!”

Such charming people, these universdity brainwashed leftie scum. Needless to say these two were not arrested for their blatantly provocative and grossly offensive hate speech.

Robinson has now been released, although it is unclear whether police will pursue charges at this point.

Big Brands, Big Meetings, Big Summits, but Modern Slavery Still Problem for UK

It’s rather ironic that while british lefties and liberals agonise over the use of several kinds of slave labour in the clothing and electronics sweatshops of South-east Asia and Africa, their American counterparts are still grizzling over a form of slavery that was abolished in their country 150 years ago, constantly whining about how people whose grand – parent were not born when the slaves were freed are still suffering because of the Atlantic slave trade, but happy (and some seem ecstatic but maybe that’s the drugs,) to walk around wearing their Adidas or Nike trainers, clothes from Primark or H&M, or their Apple iPhones or iPads, or Samsung Galaxies. The case is that anything you have which is made in China, India, Bangla Desh, Indonesia, Thailand, Nigerea, Ghana or any other third world nation that manufactures for the global brands propable uses indentured (i.e. slave) labour in some stages of the production chain.

Online fashion giant Asos hosted an event in Mauritius this month to discuss issues surrounding modern slavery in the retail industry, meanwhile the UK is holding a Modern Slavery Summit to see how law enforcement agencies can prosecute more perpetrators of human trafficking. Will thins help? Well judge for yourselves but who can forget the story of the Romanian girl sold to a crime network that trafficked girls to western Europe to work as prostitutes. She was free by do-gooderfuckers in the UK, only to be shipped back to Romania where the authorities handed her back to her father … who immediately sold her back to the traffickers. The stotu came to light when she was freed a second time. but back to the most notoriously reliant on slave labour, the fashion industry.

Brand executives from Adidas, Puma, zLabels, Woolworths and Whistles which all manufacture goods in Mauritius, met anti-slavery lobby groups including the International Labour Organization, the Ethical Trading Initiative and Anti Slavery International and agreed that ‘something needed to be done. So they decided to have a few more meetings. Asos was the first online fashion business to sign up to the Global Framework agreement which aims to improve working conditions for 50 million people, making a public commitment to eradicate slavery from its supply chains but is rather vaguer about how it will achieve its aims.

Valter Sanches, General Secretary of IndustriALL, a federation of trade unions representing 70 milion people globally, said, “This agreement provides mechanisms and standards to empower our unions to safeguard workers’ rights across ASOS’ global supply chain. The GFA deepens our relationship with ASOS, and is an important step for supply chain industrial labour relations.”ASOS has long been committed to protecting the human rights of those who work in its
supply chainvia a dedicated Ethical Trade programme, which ensures sourcing practices are continually reviewed and improved, ASOS launched its first Modern Slavery Statement in 2017.

It’s all good PR to be sure, but while the big brands will use it to polish their image, will it actually make any difference in the sweat shops of the third world.?

Number of Rotherham Rape Gang Victims Rises to 1,500, Officers Expand Operation

When news of the existence of grooming gangs sexually exploiting vulnerable young girls in south Yorkshire broke in 2014, we wisely set up an omnibus page with an active contents list and many articles, feeling sure the story was going to run and run. Four years later it is still going.

The estimated number of victims of the gangs of muslim men involved in grooming and rape of under – age and vulnerable girls in Rotherham, Yorkshire, has risen even higher than the 1,400 figure which outraged the nation in 2014, the National Crime Agency (NCA) has revealed. The revelations come as millions of pounds continue to be pumped into an independent review of the mass sex crimes in the town, with hundreds of officers still expanding their work on the scandal.

France leads celebrity pushback against ‘#MeToo’

In the months since allegations of sexual abuse against US movie mogul Harvey Weinstein first emerged, Hollywood stars have been falling over themselves to condemn him, other ‘ladies men’ in the industry and express their support to those who claimed to be victims of sexual predators. The with hunt has spread beyond Hollywood first to politics, then business and now the hysteria has reached such levels all men are being condemned. The unanimity of the response has been and astounding example of what the french call Le pensée unique, the single idea. At the Golden Globe awards last Sunday, an entire galaxy of stars came out wearing black in solidarity with victims and those who resisted the demands for conformity were subjected to the obligatory hate campaign.

This week veteran French actresses and 1960s / 70s sex symbol Catherine Deneuve, took a different view.

Deneuve was the most high-profile of 100 prominent French female celebrities who signed an open letter criticising the #MeToo social-media campaign, and related drives to expose sexual harassment in France and elsewhere.

The Hollywood and mainstream media campaigns, the Le Monde letter said, had gone beyond exposing individual perpetrators, and had unleashed a torrent of “hatred against men and sex”. Add to that the usual noise from London’s metropilitan leftie screechers who, supported by the usual suspects, The Labour Party, Unite Against Fascism, The Anti – Nazi League, the Gay BLTs and the tesicularly deficient progressive wing of the Conservative Party responded with their own Pavolian hatefest. The people can be relied on to unfailingly respond to the trigger signals.

“Puritanism” was running rampant “like in the good old days of witchcraft”, the French feminists argued, stating that the freedom of men to pester was “essential to sexual freedom”.

Around the world – but mainly among the liberal elites of east and west coast USA, the shock of dropping jaws striking the ground registered two point five on the Richter scale and a tsunami of outrage swamped social media. In France itself there were some strong reactions – both for and against – but the response was not front-page news and most people simply gave a gallic shrug and said “Qu’importe”.

Those different reactions say a lot about the different ways feminist view the world in the Anglosphere and Southern Europe France and the US. “It’s hard to imagine a US movie star not being comprehensively pilloried” for signing such a letter, says Emily Yoffe, contributing editor for The Atlantic magazine. And that is a key point; the Politically Correct Thought Police who patrol the internet might get their knickers in a twist and start raging about diversity when someone complains about immigrant refusing to integrate but there are many aspects of diversity followers of the pensée unique are just not willing to tolerate.

The French women are not the first to break ranks from the politically correct consensus.

In an interview for Business Insider, Matt Damon, star of the highly successful Bourne franchise said that the majority of men in Hollywood were not involved in sexual misconduct but this is not not gaining attention.

“We’re in this watershed moment, and it’s great, but I think one thing that’s not being talked about is… the preponderance of men I’ve worked with who don’t do this kind of thing,” he said during an interview while promoting his new film Downsizing.

Many social media users condemned the actor for suggesting not being a sexual predator was an accomplishment although that is a ridiculous distortion of what he meant.
US actor Matt Damon, for example, drew fire for expressing much milder reservations about the #MeToo movement.

It is not the first time Damon has commented on sexual abuse following rape allegations against Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein. Last week in an interview with ABC News Damon said groping and rape were two different things and shouldn’t be treated the same.

“There’s a difference between, you know, patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right?” Damon told ABC’S ‘Popcorn’ with Peter Travers “Both of those behaviours need to be confronted and eradicated, without question, but they shouldn’t be conflated, right?”

Criticizing the politically correct zealotry of the #MeToo campaign may be taboo in the USA and Britain, so why can such views as are expressed in the letter to Le Monde accepted with so little fuss in France? One reason, according to Anastasia Colosimo, a political commentator who lectures in Sciences Politique in Paris, is author of “Les bûchers de la liberté,” (The butchers of Liberty) and is an enduring influence in France of 1960s-type feminists, steeped in the free-wheeling ethos of the time.

“A key aspect of the struggle of the 1960s was the need to remove any guilt attached to feminine sexuality,” she says. “Women openly said they had the same craving for sex as men.”

The signatories of the letter also include writer Catherine Millet, 69, best-known for a 2002 memoir detailing her sexual history in graphic detail. Among the others are Catherine Robbe-Grillet, the author of sadomasochistic stories, and Brigitte Lahaie, a 1970s porn star turned talk-show host.

These older feminists see the drive against harassment, which gathered steam in 1990s America, as a threat to the sexual revolution their generation has achieved. They accept the need to fight rape and workplace harassment. But in their view, says Ms Colosimo, activists who put such dangers at the heart of the modern feminist struggle promote a view of women “as victims and helpless objects of male desire rather than free agents”.

This contrasts with the Anglosphere where the feminist movement has been completely hijacked by ugly, hairy – arsed, man – hating lezzas who are prepared to condemn Harvey Weinstein although he has not yet been convicted of anything, but simultaneously defend Muslims who rape and sexually exploit white girls, “because Multiculturalism.”

The pushback is not just in France however, ridiculous claims from the gaggle of squawkers in Hollywood and other sectors of the celebrity circus have alienated more level headed commentators. Novelist Margaret Atwood has criticized #MeToo, from a different angle, her provocative article is published in Canada’s Globe and Mail newspaper. The lifelong feminist is singing, if not quite from the same songsheet, certainy from the same songbook as she complains that a broken legal system which permits media witch hunts rather than ensuring due process is observed, thus negating the legal rights of those against whom allegations have been made but as yet no charges have been laid.

We saw a similar trend in Britain after the crimes of DJ and TV presenter Jimmy Savile were exposed in 2013 after a police investigation into evidence of his prolific sexual abuse of under age and vulnerable people had been in progress for some months. While rumours had circulated about Savile’s behaviour for years, as was the case with Harvey Weinstein, those who should have acted closed ranks to protect Savile because his carefully constructed public image made him a cash cow for their media companies and charities.

As soon as the Savile story gained traction , though he was safe from legal action having died in 2011, multitudes of attention seekers started to make #MeToo style allegations against male celebrities most of which were not supported by any evidence at all. And as in the latest outburst of politically correct madness names of the accused were made pubic before any legal process was initiated. The legal rights of those accused have been ignored by the very people who usually scream most loudly about “rights”.

American novelist Lionel Shriver, is also sceptical about the motivations of those jumping on the #meToo bandwagon. Unanimity in Hollywood, she suggests, is result of risking ostracism by going off-message: “Given the nature of social movements these days, if you have reservations you keep your mouth shut.”In the social media age, Shriver adds, “You have one position that’s acceptable and everyone piles on to it. If you express a dissenting opinion, you’re going to get slaughtered.”

This has not deterred Shriver, who fully supports the Deneuve line and regards #MeToo as a “witch-hunt”. “We’re losing the distinction between serious sexual assault and even rape and putting a hand on a knee,” she says. “It’s as if someone finding you attractive is an insult. I beg to differ: I’m complimented if someone is attracted to me. The only question is: am I allowed to say no?”

Last year another major French actress, Fanny Ardant – born in 1949 – went so far as to say that the campaign against sex pests was redolent of fascism. Fascism is an accusation that has been levelled at the forces of politically correct authoritarianism in other contexts too, and with good cause.

South Yorkshire Police Commissioner Shaun Wright Finally Resigns Over Rotherham Child Abuse Scandal

The man who bears most responsibility for failure to investigate the Rotherham child abuse scandal has finally resigned after three weeks of excuses and evasions. If this is the age of victimhood, then there are no larger (and more recognised) victim groups than gender and racial minorities.

My race (and certain other traits) put me firmly in the “victim minority” bracket—well, if you ignore the horribleness of my maleness. I should clarify that I don’t see myself in those terms. But so strong is the wave of desire to identify and deify victims, that *some* people in everyday life insist on interacting with me as a member of a victim class. They mean well.

I’ve resorted to spending more time than I’d like thinking about these terms—if only so I can find ways of ridding myself of them. And I have found a couple.

But of all the illogicalities that have emerged from the degeneration of political (and politicised) discourse, the biggest one (to me) is the exaltation of subjectivity.

This is the idea that an individual’s feelings on matters with universal consequences, are more important that the construction of universally comprehensible and verifiable standards.

This is the biggest illogicality because it imposes the expectation that everyone, everywhere should get along and hold hands… while assaulting, in sadomasochistic fashion, the only mechanism which can allow them to do so—objectivity.

This is not just a conceptual problem and I’ll illustrate that with a practical example.

Everywhere I look, I see stats about how there are either too many black people or too few of us in whatever state of existence we’ve decided is topical. There are stats about how few women there are in STEM and a cherry-picked list of desirable professions. There’s the inexplicably persistent gender pay gap narrative, which has been repeatedly debunked by such sexist publications as Harvard (a female professor at Harvard, to be specific) and Forbes (in an article written by another female academic).

And Thomas Sowell (a black economist) has been admonishing the western world since the 80s, about the inaccuracies (and dangerousness) of the way we dishonestly politicise disparities in income and opportunity, across race and gender.

But I digress… because I don’t have a problem with these statistics, nor am I even here (solely) to debate their validity.

It’s what we—humans—do with these statistics that really bothers me. We abuse them with this new-found exaltation of subjectivity.

We turn victimhood into a mechanism for attaining disproportionately large power, then do what humans do best when we wield too much power—abuse it.

So, we say, My subjective reality is that white people are racist and evil, therefore the fact there aren’t more black CEOs *must be* the fault of white people.”

Or we say, My subjective reality is that all men are all evil, rapey gorillas, so the fact that there aren’t more women in STEM *must be* the fault of men.”

Even ignoring that in all these conversations, never have I seen a causal chain constructed (let alone a causal link established)… there’s still a huge inconsistency in how these ideas evolve.

To prove that [INSERT MINORITY GROUP] would achieve a perfectly even 50/50 split of opportunities, were it not for the interference of [INSERT MAJORITY OPPRESSOR], we pretend there’s perfect uniformity across groups.

We proclaim that gender and race are social constructs, completely removed from science and reality.

Women, men and people of different races are perfectly uniform in all abilities, interests and aptitudes. This is an incredibly subjective stance to take… but let’s entertain it for a minute.

If this were true, then there’d be absolutely no need for diversity. If we are all uniform, then we are all interchangeable.

This is an exemplary case of mutual exclusivity. Either we are all different, therefore we need a good mix to capitalise on unique qualities… or we’re all the same, and each human possesses the same abilities to the same degree of competence as every other human.

If we acknowledge diversity, we *must* also acknowledge lack of uniformity. And if we acknowledge lack of uniformity, we *must* also acknowledge inequalities of ability.

The mistake we make is that our prejudices cause us to value some abilities more than others—and we are simplistic enough to assume that being less skilled in these abilities makes people less valuable too.

For example, no one would bat an eyelid were I to suggest that the average height of Dutch people is greater than the average height of Senegalese people. But swap height for beauty, IQ or some other politically charged subject and the reaction completely changes—because human prejudices cause us to assume “beauty” and “IQ” are more valuable (or humanising) qualities than height.

This prejudice manifests itself in other unhealthy ways which I will cover later.

But I like to ask myself, “What if I’m wrong?” So, I did and I could find only one potentially credible criticism.

That criticism is that diversity isn’t about biological composition and abilities. It’s about cultures and communal experiences, and how those shape individuals.

This is an idea I like… but if this is the case, shouldn’t we be encouraging people to fixate less on the artificial constructs of gender and race—aka the “patriarchy” and the “white devil”? Both follow arbitrarily biological lines of categorisation and represent a hypocritical stance by those who claim things like race and gender shouldn’t be used to judge others. Surely, the shared experience of the human condition supersedes both? Surely, the lesson is that all humans (male or female, white or non-white, heterosexual or homosexual etc.) tend to abuse power when they wield too much of it?

If race and gender are social constructs, are the problems we see in the world not more likely to be borne of human nature—rather than “white nature” or “male nature” or any other selectively defined nature?

And do the solutions to these problems not lie in our ability to find connections, based on shared human experiences and struggles, which traverse cultures and communities?

Yet, it was James Damore’s position that women, as a group (not at an individual level) tend to have different interests from men, which got him fired. He didn’t say the interests held by women are inferior to those held by men—simply that they are different.

It’s funny because firing James Damore seemed to me a highly “patriarchal” move. It proved that Google believes the interests that are most likely to be held by men are more valuable than the interests that are more likely to be held by women. Therefore, the only way to argue that women (as a group) are as valuable as men is to argue that women are the same as men.

This is a sad conclusion because it encourages women to value themselves based on how identical they are to men.

This is symptomatic of a general move in society. We push groups identified as being marginalised to measure their value based on how identical they are to groups which are considered to be unfairly free of marginalisation.

Equality has been (wrongly) conflated with uniformity.

Similarly, Apple’s diversity officer lost her job because she dared to suggest that a group of white men can still be diverse. Is whiteness so overpowering now, that it completely nullifies every other aspect of a person’s existence? Their nationality? Their sexuality? Their socio-economic background? Their religious background? Their philosophical background?

In an age when we bemoan the paucity of women in top jobs at tech companies, should the expression of a logical opinion in a measured manner be a sackable offence? Especially for one of the few talented women (out of countless others) who’s bucked the trend of female underrepresentation?

Subjectivity has been given such supremacy that the popular positions on gender and race are so riddled with inconsistencies that they suggest:

  1. Race and gender are social constructs which have no basis in biology or science
  2. Yet we must have perfectly uniform race and gender diversity across the most desirable occupations, because race and gender are important variables in these equations
  3. This is because people of different races and genders bring different experiences and perspectives to the table
  4. Yet we must never talk about the fact that different people are inclined towards different experiences, and that this shapes who they are—especially if talking about this distracts from “white guilt”

But why does this all matter—why play this game of semantics?

Because the are real problems in the world, which need real solutions. I’m going to shun political correctness and talk about those problems.

Incarceration rates among black people in western societies are high. Women are underrepresented in high-paying jobs (though this is not the same as a gender pay gap)—and we mustn’t forget that men are overrepresented in jobs where people are most likely to die. Rape is too high—I won’t quote stats because I don’t care if there’s one rape a year, that’s still too many. Mental health problems take many lives every year—especially men’s. Young, working class men represent (arguably) the most economically under-privileged group in the UK.

And these are just a few of the problems we face.

Any good scientist (or problem solver) will tell you that to change an outcome, you must first accurately diagnose its cause. If you try to affect the wrong cause, you will not reverse the negative outcome.

This is why I’m so opposed to the politicisation of these issues. When we politicise them, people stop looking for answers and start looking for scapegoats. Throw the exaltation of subjectivity into the mix and you get a recipe for obscurantism and ego tripping.

Meanwhile, people are still suffering the very real consequences of these problems.

This is not a game where the blacks win and the whites lose, or the women win and the men lose. It’s a reality where we all win or lose together—because there’s only one Earth and we *all* have to share it.

It may well turn out, upon thorough investigation, that men and white people are to blame for 90% of the world’s problems… but we currently have no proof, just feelings. So, thorough investigation must come nonetheless.

Even in English criminal law, the condemnation of one person requires the accumulation of near-insurmountable evidence. You generally need actus reus (proof that a criminal act was committed) and mens rea (proof that the accused wilfully committed said criminal act). That means if I slip and accidentally knock a person dead, I can’t be guilty of murder (there’s no mens rea).

Yet, we so casually condemn entire groups of people?

And, to be clear, I have no political or social affiliations. This article does not exist to support one cause at the expense of the other. I think the left wing is just as full of shit as the right wing. I judge people on an individual-to-individual basis. I don’t care if you’re white, black, straight, genderqueer, conservative, liberal, nationalistic or anarchistic—if you show me kindness and openness, I will do the same.

But I find it funny that our desire for labels is so strong, we’ve labelled those who disagree with the adoption of labels . They call us “centrists”, as a slight… people who are too spineless to “pick a side”, I guess. As if we’re somehow in-between this stupid, unworkable idea and that other stupid, unworkable idea.

I’m not a centrist. I’m saying I’m not even on the same spectrum. The damn thing is broken.

I’m saying when you let go of the need to be right and focus on what the world needs to get right, you might see that the answer is no one has a good enough answer yet—and

we all need to keep looking. Hard.

ANOTHER Alleged Rotherham Child Rape Gang in Court

In the latest chapter of the scandal that just will not go away for the politically correct left, with numerous convictions for rape and sexual abuse already recorded against member of Rotherham’s Muslim community, three Rotherham men have been brought to trial trial accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old in a graveyard and car park the 1990s.

The trio, Sajid Ali, now 38, Riaz Makhmood, 39, and Zaheer Iqbal, 39, all from Rotherham, allegedly plied the young girl with alcohol before coercing her into performing sex acts on them when they were teenagers, Sheffield Crow Court heard Monday.

All three are charged with sexually assaulting the girl in the Masbrough area of the town.

Prosecutor Sophie Drake told jurors how the three defendants “plied” their young victim with drink before pressurising her into performing acts on them, sometimes one after the other, The Star reports.

Ms. Drake said that while the girl was not threatened with violence, the three defendants used other methods of “controlling” her.

“They said they would tell her mother what she was doing and she was scared of this. The Crown say this is one of the ways they put pressure on her and would control her,” Ms. Drake told the court.

She also insisted the alleged victim “looked her age, if not younger”.

The offences allegedly happened in 1994 and 1995 when the men were aged between 15 and 17. The victim eventually went to police in September 2014 and identified all three defendants in September 2016.

In a police interview, she said she waited until then to report the matter to the police because she had felt “ashamed” and “guilty” and said that alcohol played a part in the situation.

“I think a lot of it were [sic] down to having a drink,” she said in the police interview played to the court, adding: “I was passed around from man to man.”

The alleged crimes only stop when the girl’s mother stopped her spending time in the area, the court heard.

Mr. Makhmood denies three charges of indecent assault, Mr. Ali denies seven charges of indecent assault, and Mr. Iqbal denies five charges of indecent assault. The trial continues and can be followed in The Guardian.

A report on the wider investigation into organised abuse in Rotherham is covered bY the Rotherham Advertizer, reveals that a further three thousand lines of enquiry are being followed by the national crime agency.

Amazingly, in spite of this case having been extenstively covered by news organisations of the left and right, and been the subject of two official reports, the Jay report and the Casey report, both commissioned by UK the government and led by respected social science academics, left wing activists and advocates of uncontrolled immigration still insist the scandal is an invention of “conspiracy theorists”.

Weinstein scandal: What it tells us about celebs, American politics & Hollywood

The Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal which has rocked the Hollywood establishment and shocked America to its core, according to mainstream media should not have surprised anyone (if fact much of the shock and horror being expressed is typical Hollywood liberal hypocrisy.) And now the story has broken, it seems that as well as a few who were actually victims of this man, all the usual suspects are jumping on the bandwagon and shouting, “me too, me too.”

To them we can only say,”Honestly, you celebrity sheeple, we in the real world know what goes on in showbiz, the fashion game, politics and all other areas where fame and fortune are in the gift of venal individuals, you people are not as unique and amazing as you think. There have always been both women and men who would disrobe and ‘assume the position’ for the sake of short term gain. You are mummers for fuck’s sake, players in a farce, stop believing your own publicity.”

Weinstain (!) has been known as a sexual predator for years and the history of rich, powerful old men in Hollywood using their position to extort sexual favours from good looking young actors and actresses is as old as Hollywood itself. We have reported it in our blogs, HERE, HERE, AND HERE.

The latest Hollywood scandal (plus a few linked in the previous paragraph,) and the corruption endemic in Washington, isn’t only an indictment of the celebrity culture, but of America’s moral decay as well.

The story of Weinstein, the uber-powerful film producer, co-founder of Miramax Films, friend and major donor to Democratic politicians (including Hillary Clinton whose mock outrage in her condemnation of him for doing what she could not have been unaware of when he was useful to her, and behaviour similar to that she has tolerated and defended in her husband Bill for decades,) is the story of America’s moral decay in the second half of the twentieth century and on into the twenty first.

Sure Harvey was fired from his job as co-Chairman of The Weinstein Company after the New York Times ran an article exposing his serial sexual harassment of female employees, is such a perfect storm of corruption, depravity and hypocrisy that it exquisitely encapsulates the moral decay of America. Prior to that article however, the great and not o good of show business and politics had obviously known of this proclivities but had closed ranks to protect one of their own.

The New York Times piece revealed that Weinstein has, over the years, settled at least eight sexual harassment lawsuits out of court. We are told the settlements included gagging clauses. What the article reported just the tip of a really grotesque iceberg, for in its wake a plethora of other claims has surfaced.

In a New Yorker article, written, ironically enough, by Ronan Farrow, son of alleged pedophile Woody Allen, even more claims emerged of Weinstein’s predatory behavior. One of the many lowlights from that article includes Italian actress/filmmaker Asia Argento and two other women claiming that Weinstein raped them.

The most famous women among the sea of those claiming harassment at the hands of the movie mogul are Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd, Rose McGowan and Rosanna Arquette. Thereare of course many condemning Weinstein who had no direct dealings but are vicariously shocked and offended by the scandal.

The repugnance of the Weinstein scandal i overwhelming, and nearly every public person is going through the pantomime of denouncing Harvey and his lecherousness, but this comes over as disingenuous at best. All the movie stars, media members, and politicians now publicly expressing their disgust at Weinstein have previously displayed nothing but admiration for his genius as a producer and promoter during the time he could influence their careers, or give them credibility as they campaigned for votes.

What strikes us is the many similarities with a showbiz scandal that shook Britain in 2014 when DJ and television presenter Jimmy Savile, about whom there had been rumours for decades but who, like Weinstein had been protected by the establishment (allegations of his bizarre and perverted behaviour were routinely deflected by reminders that he “did a lot for charity,” but as stories emerged that had been covered up for years it turned out even that had an ulterior motive.

So how do people like Harvey Weinstein and jimmy Savile get escape exposure for so long? The main reason is the deification of fame; both were shameless self promoters, Savile’s schtick was a man of the people act, the charity work was part of this, his TV shows specialised in putting members of the public centre stage for a few minutes. And he was a valuable asset to his main employer, the taxpayer funded public broadcaster The BBC. Weinstein had a knack of producing films have been nominated for Oscars for Best Picture 26 times in the last 28 years and have been nominated overall for over 300 Academy Awards. In other words, Harvey could make people rich and famous, which is why so many in Hollywood found enough felixibility in their moral compass to ignore his alternative career as a rapist and sex abuser. To quote Upton Sinclair, “It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it.”

Blind ambition isn’t the only reason Hollywood looked the other way regarding Weinstein, political expediency played a part as well. Weinstein has been a long time supporter of Democratic candidates, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in particular, and has donated a lot of money to their campaigns. And so both those hypocrites, who had shamelessly played on their politically correct credentials when campaigning were quite happy to turn a blind eye to misogyny when the money was rolling in from a misogynist

A perfect example of someone making a devil’s bargain with Weinstein for political reasons is Lena Dunham, a vociferous and vocal Clinton supporter and devout feminist, who has consistently attacked Donald Trump for a crude, but private, conversation that took place years ago. Duham admitted she knew of Weinstein’s predatory reputation in regards to women, but still shook his hand and performed at a fundraiser he held for Clinton’s campaign. Dunham said she betrayed her feminist values because “she so desperately wanted to support Clinton.” Yeah, right Lena, the end justifies the means when the end is to advance your agenda.

Hollywood liberals were quick to denounce Evangelical Christians for supporting Trump despite his alleged moral turpitude and misogyny, calling them hypocrites. Well in the case of hypocrites, I guess it takes on to know one.

Scottish poet Robert Burns wrote in the seventeenth century, “Wad some power the giftie gie us, tae see ourselves as others see us, (from Ode To A Louse).

Burns was an inveterate womaniser but he knew how to behave (and it’s likely those Scottish farm girls knew how to handle a man who didn’t.) The life of a Scottish farmer and tax collector would not require the decorous manners of a Royal court, but anyone who stepped out of life could expect a visit from the father and bothers and uncles and cousins of the young lady he had offended. Perhaps we need a return to such rough justice to persuade the likes of Fat Boy Weinstein that he might be a rich and powerful movie mogul but that does not give him droit de siegneur over atttractive young women whose careers he can influence.

It is difficult to admit, but if we could find the courage to see ourselves as others see us, to borrow the line from Burns, we would recognize that Harvey Weinstein and Jimmy Savile and all the others are the story of democratic civilisation’s decline. Both are or were in Savile’s case, totally self centred, amoral, entitled, corrupt, impervious to criticism, blindly ambitious, lacking self awareness, and willing to use power and fame to exploit the weak and indulge their darker impulses and insatiable desires. The sooner we recognize that, and recognise our own shortcomings in having been so besotted by wealth and fame we tolerated it, the faster we can try to arrest the moral decay that threatens out way of life.
