Brexit debate: How To Distinguish Between Bullshit And The Truth

Earlier this morning former UK Prime Minister John Major became the latest mainstream politician to make a pillock of himself over the question of whether British voters should keep us in the EU or get us out. Major, one of the establishment traitors who wants us to sell future generations into permanent slavery in a totalitarian, fascistic bureaucratic dictatorship dominated by Germany.

Major said he was angry at the lies being told by prominent figures in the ‘LEAVE’ campaign. By which of course he means voters should only believe the lies being told by campaigners in the ‘REMAIN’ campaign. Yes both sides (even the one I support) are telling lies, in fact they are telling THE SAME LIE. Both sides are presenting wishful thinking on the economic consequences of leaving the EU as facts.

The truth is with the global economy on the verge of collapse, and the Eurozone in even worse trouble, nobody knows what the future holds economically, in or out of the EU. And that is the truth.

People should care about the truth, because the truth is the truth about how things are and it’s important us to recognize how things are, not to pretend that it’s something else. If you have the truth reflects what reality is like, if you don’t value it you’re ignorant of reality.

A very wise man Gauatama Siddartha (The Buddha) advised his followers two thousand five hundred years ago. “Believe nothing. No matter where you read it, or who said it, even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.”

The advice still holds good. We are all equipped to distinguish between truth and opinion, propaganda or bullshit. We are living in an era of twenty four hour rolling news, while the internet bombards us with “staccato signals of constant information,” to quote Paul Simon, an age in which if people do not like reality they can take refuge in bullshit.

The reason why there’s so much confusion about what is bullshit and what is truth lies in information technology. With twenty four hours (less ad breaks which are more bullshit) to fill bullshit, TV news has to employ people to just talk. And because Google talks about ‘quality content’ but rewards only NEW content (new posts, new links), people who manage comment and analysis sires just write. Where things really go awry is that people have to talk or write about things that they really have little knowledge or understanding of.

The danger in this is there appears to be a loss of concern for the truth, and that has failitated the insidious assault on the fundamental principles of democracy such as free speech and diversity of ideas. Propaganda can be passed of as fact and dissenting voices can be silence by accusations of racism, or ‘hate speech’. The French call this imposition of a single set of acceptable ideas and opinions Le Pensee Unique. The bullshitters like John Major, Tony Blair, David Cameron, Jeremy Corbyn, Angela Merkel, Francoise Hollande and the rest of the establishment elitists all it politically correct thinking.

I’ve been a dissenter all my life and I don’t plan on changing any time soon. The truth is the Brexit vote is not about economics, it is about what kind of a nation and by extension what kind of a world we want to live in, a free world or a world that people like Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Chairman Mao or Pol Pot dreamed of, where the state is supreme and indivuals are worthless.
