Turkey Kills Over 50 Syrian Troops, Russian Warplanes Intervene to Halt Offensive

A reminder that there are other things than the corona virus outbreak going on in the world.

Conflict in Syria’s embattled Idlib Province, the last stronghold of the ISIS uprising which once threatened to overrun both Syria and Iraq and establish a new Islamic Caliphate in the region once known as the Levant,  has escalated substantially during the past week, with Turkish government forces attacking the Syrian army and claiming to have killed over 50 soldiers loyal to President Assad.  Russia, the main Syrian ally in the conflict which is basically a showdown between Alawite (Shia) and Salafist (Sunni) muslim sects, took the pressure off Assad and sent a clear message to Turkey’s President Erdogan by sending in warplanes to halt to Turkish assault, and warning the regime in Ankara away from continued action.

Turkish officials tried to justify the incursion into Syrian territiry by claiming Syrioan forces had killed two Turkish soldiers who were in Idlib to “establish peace” and that the attack was only retaliation for that act of war. President Erdogan has threatened strikes anywhere in response to attacks on and injuries to Turkish soldiers. That he can make such a threat when Turkish military forces have no right to be in Syrian territory demonstrates the shambolic state of politics in the eastern Mediterranean region.

Turkish-backed rebels supported by Turkish heavy artillery launched the attacks on Syrian forces trying to oust ISIS rebels from Idlib, an area close to Syria’s border with Turkey.  Syria responded but with their military weakened by the years of conflict with the ISIS rebels were ultimately forced to request Russian help, and airstrikes were launched by Russian Su-24 fighter jets against attacking forces. Russia also contacted Turkey and told them to stop shelling.

While this particular flare-up appears to be over, fighting looks set to intensify as Erdogan, a leader whose sanity is at best questionable, seems determined to pick a fight with Vladimir Putin’s Russia. Putin called the situation a “worst case scenario,” and has demanded that Turkey stop backing terrorist groups in Idlib. Turkey has vowed they will not leave Idlib to Syria, and reiterated demands that Syria unconditionally cede the province to the mostly al-Qaeda-led rebels therein. Erdogan also has stated his intention to seize and annexe territory in Kurdistan currently under Syrian and Iraqui rule but designated an autonomous region by United Nations treaty.

EU Borders at Breaking Point as Migrants Shipped to Frontier

This blog has always tried to point out to the lefties who screech about “open borders” that the European Union commitment to free movement of Labour only applies to citizens of EU member states moving withing the Union. They are closed minded and bigoted on the subject of course, “open borders” facilitating the movement of hundreds of millions of uneducated third world peasants to the developed nations is one of the sacred cows of their ideologically driven agenda and practical considerations like how do nations cope with the burden of feeding, housing and providing social benefits the extra, mostly unemployable people when its population is increased by 50% in a short time while the economy remains stagnant?

from Breitbart Europe

Tensions on Europe’s borders with Turkey are rising as thousands of migrants are brought to the frontier on unmarked buses and state-owned railways.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country’s borders to Europe were open for migrants some days ago, ostensibly because his country could not cope with an increased flow of refugees from Idlib, Syria.

Yet the move follows years of threats made by Erdogan to punish Europe for not furnishing his Islamist government with money and political support by opening Turkey’s borders — behind which are 3.5 million or more migrants waiting to travel to the West.

Erdogan has repeatedly expressed frustration with Europe’s failure to fully back his military operations in the Syria to carve out a Turkish zone of control and prop up rebels linked to al-Qaeda, which has resulted in deadly clashes between his forces and the Russian-backed Syrian government and its Iranian and Iran-linked allies.

There are now thousands of migrants packed into the so-called no man’s land on the Greco-Turkish border, with the Greek authorities struggling to repel the reportedly mostly male migrants seeking to breach the European Union’s common external border.

Despite Erdogan’s suggestions that the migrants are recent refugees from Idlib, this does not appear to be the case, with the migrants coming from all over Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia.  Continue reading

Leaked email: Senior OPCW Official Orders “Delete All Traces” Of Dissent On Douma Gas Attack Narrative

We have reported here previously that the alleged use of Chemical weapons by forces controlled by Syrian dictator Bashar al Assad against his own people, investigated by the Organisation for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons  was not unanimously found by investigators to be the work of the Assad regime. The official narrative was designed to justify full scale military intervention by US and NATO forces in Syria’s civil war, but western leaders were dissuaded for this course of action by Russia’s Putin and China’s President Xi.

Later, while the bulk of the investigative panel stick to the script, it was revealed that a minority report actually considered the facts, which pointed to the gas attack on Douma being a false flag attack carried out by forces attached to terrorist group Al Nusra.

Now documents released by Wikileaks expose corruption in the OPCW whose senior officers are exposed as having tried to prevent to minority report going public.

from AlMasdarNews.com,

Wikileaks has released their fourth set of leaks from the OPCW’s Douma investigation, revealing new details about the alleged deletion of important information regarding the fact-finding mission.

“One of the documents is an e-mail exchange dated 27 and 28 February between members of the fact finding mission (FFM) deployed to Douma and the senior officials of the OPCW. It includes an e-mail from Sebastien Braha, Chief of Cabinet at the OPCW, where he instructs that an engineering report from Ian Henderson should be removed from the secure registry of the organisation,” WikiLeaks writes. Included in the email is the following directive:

Please get this document out of DRA [Documents Registry Archive]… And please remove all traces, if any, of its delivery/storage/whatever in DRA.’”

According to Wikileaks, the main finding of Henderson, who inspected the sites in Douma, was that two of the cylinders were most likely manually placed at the site, rather than dropped. Eye witness reports exposed news video of the rescue operation as having been faked.

“The main finding of Henderson, who inspected the sites in Douma and two cylinders that were found on the site of the alleged attack, was that they were more likely manually placed there than dropped from a plane or helicopter from considerable heights. His findings were omitted from the official final OPCW report on the Douma incident,” the Wikileaks report said.

It must be remembered that the U.S. launched an attack on Damascus, Syria on April 14, 2018 over alleged chemical weapons usage by pro-Assad forces at Douma.

Another document released Friday is minutes from a meeting on 6 June 2018 where four staff members of the OPCW had discussions with “three Toxicologists/Clinical pharmacologists, one bioanalytical and toxicological chemist” (all specialists in chemical weapons, according to the minutes).

New OPCW Leak Further Vindicates Skeptics Of Establishment Syria Narrative

This will demonstrate that your Boggart Bloggers are not the only “crazy conspiracy theorists” to have questioned the official narrative that Syria’s Assad regime used chemical weapons against their own people. And as usual proof has emerged that the “crazy conspiracy theorists” were telling the truth all the time.

Authored by Caitlin Johnstone via Medium.com,

On the sixth of July last year, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) released its interim report on its findings regarding an alleged poison gas attack in Douma, Syria in April 2018. The incident, which resulted in dozens of civilian casualties, was blamed on the Syrian government by the US, UK and France, who launched retaliatory airstrikes on multiple targets in that nation.

The interim report claimed that “various chlorinated organic chemicals were found” in different locations on the scene, but strangely said nothing about the levels at which those chemicals were found. The Moon of Alabama blog highlighted this suspicious exclusion on the day the report came out, noting that levels are absolutely essential in determining chemical weapons use when you’re talking about compounds which are found virtually everywhere at some level in any industrialized region.

“The preliminary OPCW report says nothing about the concentrations in which these substances were found,” MoA observed.

“Without knowing the concentrations, which may be extremely low, one can not come to further conclusion.”

“The ‘various chlorinated organic chemicals’ are unsurprising,” MoA wrote.

“Chlorine is widely used for water purification and cleaning and ‘chlorinated organic chemicals’ will be found in any household.”

new addition to the body of leaks which have been hemorrhaging from the OPCW shows that such skepticism was indeed entirely warranted. A leaked email sent shortly before the interim report was published reveals that the chlorinated organic chemicals which OPCW investigators found on the scene were as low as one or two parts-per-billion, meaning, just as Moon of Alabama speculated last year, that they were found at trace quantities you’d expect to find in any industrialized area.

EU should fear the jihadists it’s backing in Syria, not refugees – Assad

from RT

In an exclusive interview with RT’s Afshin Rattansi, Syrian President Bashar Assad said it’s hypocrisy for European nations to fear that Ankara will send refugees to Europe, but continue to sponsor terrorism in Syria.

The Syrian leader argued that the primary concern for Europe should not be the Syrian refugees which Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan now threatens to release to Europe, but the “hundreds of thousands” of jihadists Europe allied itself with.

How can you fear those few millions, the majority of them are moderates and they have few terrorists, while you support those terrorists directly in tens of thousands at least and maybe hundreds of thousands in Syria and you don’t fear that they’re going to go back to your country?

Assad told Afshin Rattansi that while there might be some extremists among those who fled the war-torn country, the majority of the refugees do not pose any acute threat, as opposed to hardened jihadists who may turn on their patrons …

UK establishment – echo site Bellingcat attacks US anti – war candidate Gabbard for doubting Syria chemical attacks

For some in the USA congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard is the stand out figure in a crowded but uninspiring field of Democrat Party politicians hoping to win the right to challenge Donald Trump for the presidency in 2020. Running as an anti-war candidate, Gabbard has expressed opposition to US military interventions in their world nations and has gone on record for casting doubt on the establishment narrative that President Assad of Syria has on several occasions ordered his troops to use chemical weapons against civilians in that country’s long civil war.

The congresswoman from Hawaii is not out on a limb in doubting the official line, while mainstream media, fearing reprisals maybe, has dutifully toed the esatblishment line that the raping, sex slave taking, journalist baking, head amputating ISIS, Al Nusra and Al Qaeda rebels are the good guys in Syria. Respected veteran journalists including John Pilger and Seymour Hersch have also pointed out that it would have been ridiculous of Assad to use illegal weapons at times when the war was going his way. However it has been revealed that the Saudis, the USA (more so under the Obama administration than Trump,), and the EU all gave material support to the rebels, while Assad, who is supported by a majority of his people, has been demonized because he has stood in the way of US / NATO regional ally and oil reservoir Saudi – Arabia and their ambitions to build an oil and gas pipeline from the gulf to the Mediterranean.

Opposing military interventions and regime change was in the US is like painting a target on your own back. Traditionally it has been The Republicans that took the role of the war party, but since Obama pledged US support for any bunch of dark skinned fanatics trying to oust and equally dark skinned dictator, rooting for foreign interventions has become part of the Democrat platform too. But not for Tulsi Gabbard whose published criticisms of American military meddling in the domestic politics of smaller nations includes a lengthy piece on chemical attacks in Syria.

In spite of the outraged reaction from both ends of the US political spectrum,, she does have a point. In February 2018, commenting on the publication of an OPCW (Organisation for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons report on one poison gas incident which stated inspectors found no evidence that the Assad regime was involved, I wrote:

“Experienced chemical weapons experts and independent U.N. investigators such as Hans Blix, Scott Ritter, Gareth Porter and Theodore Postol have all cast doubt on “official” American narratives claiming that President Assad employing Sarin.
Now the US government’s military boss has said on the record that there was no evidence to support this conclusion. In so doing, Mattis tacitly impugned the interventionists who were responsible for pushing the “Assad is guilty” narrative twice without sufficient supporting evidence, in order to justify escalation of US / NATO involvement in the conflict.”

On another chemical weapon event American scientist Theodore A Postol conducted his own investigation because he found the official report unbeliveable. His daming report, sent to Washington, included, along with much more evidence deconstructing the official version of events, this paragraph:

“When the OPCW document [the leaked report from a dissenting OPCW scientist claiming that the chemical weapons attack was staged] indicating staging of the chlorine cylinder attacks in the alleged attacks in Douma on April 7, 2018 was released, I was traveling and in Washington with little time to look more deeply into the matter. I have finally had a chance to evaluate sections of the Douma report S/1731/2019 more comprehensively, including critical observed data and calculations included in the report. The attached PDF file contains my findings in detail.

My review of the conclusions in the UN OPCW Fact-Finding Mission Report (FFM) S/1731/2019 shows that the science-based analysis used in the report and the observed data collected by the FFM bear no relationship to each other.”

So Tulsi Gabbard is in good company when she questions the official narrative on Assad;s chemical weapons atrocities.

Gabbard became the most-googled candidate immediately after the second Democratic Party presidential primary debate, but her success in routing the establishment candidates triggered a renewed surge of personal attacks, character assassination and smears from left leaning mainstream media against her anti-war agenda. Gabbard has been branded a ‘Russian’ spoiler for whichever candidate is eventually picked, Putin’s puppet, an anti American extremist and an apologist for the brutal regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

But the attacks did not stay in the US even though the only election the candidate is involved in is purely an American affair. On Sunday Elliot Higgins, the founder of the UK-based ‘citizen investigation’ outlet Bellingcat, wrote a wlong winded hit piece attacking Gabbard’s negative attitude toward regime change wars. (Now let’s be honest here, none of the regime change wars this century could be said to have succeeded so we should be very sceptical about talk of “a negative attitude towards regime change wars,” in my opinion anyone who unequivocally opposes regime change wars has a very positive attitude towards them.) Higgins took particular exception to her skepticism over alleged chemical weapons attacks in Syria which she dicusses at length on her website.

The attacks were used by the Obama administration to justify missile strikes against the country’s legitimate government and the continued and illegal US military presence in Syria.

While Western governments were quick (too quick in fact,) to lay the blame for Syrian chemical weapons events on the government forces Damascus and Moscow have insisted the attacks mentioned by Gabbard and Higgins were false-flag operations by Al-Qaeda-affiliated militants. One would not normally take the word of either at face value but in this case their denials are backed by the independent OPCW investigators.

Particularly infamous was the one in Douma on April 7, 2018, in which the Oscar-winning ‘White Helmets’ doused unsuspecting children with cold water on camera, so as to fake the treatment of the alleged “victims.” They might not have expected for witnesses to later come forward and speak on the record at the Hague, denouncing the whole affair as staged, a view confirmed by the fact that video posted online showed aid workers in ordinary street clothes working on alleged victims of Sarin gas, a material for which full haz – mat suits are required.

A final point in conclusion, it is ironic that Bellingcat has seen fit to spend some of the US taxpayer money, which it receives through one of its sponsors, the National Endowment for Democracy – on meddling in American election processes ahead of the 2020 presidential campaign. Most of us innocen Brits though meddling in American elections was a task reserved for Russians.

The four-month military operation carried out by the US-led Coalition to oust the Islamic State from Raqqa (Syria), killed hundreds of civilians, injured many more and destroyed much of the city. This report from human rights group Amnesty International documents the experiences of four families whose cases are emblematic of wider patterns. Eight months on, the Coalition remains in denial about the human tragedy resulting from its military campaign.

Amnesty International is urging Coalition members to promptly and impartially investigate allegations of international law violations and civilian casualties, and to provide reparation to the victims and adequate assistance for the desperately needed demining and reconstruction work.

What Makes Assad In Insane Genocidal Monster?

from The Corbett Report #Propaganda Watch

As we know from the political puppets and their mouthpieces in the controlled corporate media, Syrian President Basher al-Assad is a bloodthirsty monster responsible for the wanton slaughter of (fill in the number) of his own citizens, and he particularly enjoys dropping chemical weapons on women and children despite knowing that this is the one thing that will bring him universal condemnation and ensure a full-scale assault on his country. . . But why? Why is he such a monster? That is the question, and the New York Times offers its own helpful explainer with predictably comic results. Busted: Official Propaganda Photo Of Skripal Suspects Photoshopped.

Call me a conspiracy theorist if you like (possums), but I have never bought into the official narrative surrounding the Skripal poisoning case in Salisbury earlier this year.
Six months down the line, after we had heard many ludicrous accusations from western politicians but not a single shred of credible evidence linking the poisoning to the Russian government had been produced, the case burst back into life as Teresa May, who in April said she had irrefutable evidence The Kremlin had ordered the botched assassination attempt.
When she was challenged it turned out her evidence was that she’d read it on the internet. Now, conveniently timed to whip up a bit of much needed Russophobia as the Russia / Syria / Iran alliance prepare to mop up resistance in Idlib, the last ISIS stronghold in Syria, Theresa May has suddenly produced a couple of suspects

With Trump threatening terrible retribution for another gas attack that has not yet taken place (but the US / NATO / EU sponsored Islamic extremist rebels told him Assad was preparing one and what more reliable evidence can you have than the word of a terrorist,) it looks as if the trigger happy Deep State lunatics are pushing for war again, well why not – it must be all of three months since Putin last made them back down.

The previous alleged gas attacks by Assad have been exposed by independent inspectors from the Orgamisation for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) as false flag incidents, and the latest and reportedly most serious yet was found by British reporter Robert Fisk to have been fake news. So naturally public opinion is not wildly enthusiastic about a shooting war with Russia, which would almost certainly bring China in on their side.

But as before, Prime Minister May’s suspects, produced with the aim of demonizing Russia to justify Britain’s joining a military intervention in Syria in support of a bunch of head amputating, sex slave owning, journalist burning savages is simply ridiculous. The two men in the pictures she produced could have been anybody, the picture of them in the street outside Sergei Skripal’s could have been anywhere and was definitely photoshopped as I will show you in a moment.

And while the interview with the suspects was risible as both men gave the impression they were third rate actors who had been given too little time to learn their lines, we must not forget no real evidence of their involvement has been produced. My overall impression on seeing the interview was that Putin was taking the piss.

skripal-suspects

Look at this picture (Used by The Guardian, Express, BBC and Yahoo News,) of the alleged poisoners, who according to British intelligence services managed to contaminate their hotel room and half of Salisbury with the highly potent nerve agent used in the assassination attempt, but did not suffer any ill effects and failed to kill their targets. Do you see a white halo around their bodies. This is not an indication that they had divine protection, but that their images were either pasted or cloned rather amateurishly into a shot of an unidentifiable street.

Britain Should Be Facing Global Outrage Over Skripal Saga, Not Russia

Some people may believe it is mere coincidence that in the week The UK, France and the USA (the FUKUS axis) discussed plans for appropriate measures, which would involve bombs and possibly a military incursion, in retaliation for a chemical weapon attack in Syria that has not taken place yet, the increasingly ludicrous story of the assassination attempt on former Russian agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia has come to the top of the news again.

Obviously the fires of Russophobia need to be stoked to get voters in any of the nations involved in the frustrated bit to overthrow the Assad government in Syria on board for a military intervention that could easily escalate into armed conflict between the western power and Russia, which will likely be supported by Iran and China.

Last week’s  announcement by the British government that two named Russian suspects were being sought in connection with the alleged poisoning of a former Russian spy turned double agent, who after his release from prison in an exchange deal between the US and Russia may have been involved in private intelligence work for some very dodgy characters is more absurd drama in a long-running tawdry saga.

Skripal assassination suspects (they could be anybody) Picture: 247enquirer.com

As in all previous developments in this case, no verifiable evidence that these two ordinary looking men work for the Russian secret service, or even that they are Russian. News of their involvement has been presented, with more lurid innuendo against the Russian state and the usual refusal by the British authorities to abide by any due process and international norms of diplomacy. It is all scurrilous sound and fury aimed at smearing Russia.

This week, Britain’s Metropolitan Police released video shots of the alleged assassains, purporting to show them, each alone, walking down a corridor at London’s Gatwick airport on March 2.They were not together but according to the timestamp on the CCTV still has arrived  in the exact same spot at the exact same time. When sharp eyed bloggers and alt_media journalists pointed this out, the government quickly claimed there are parallel corridors. That’s possible, but to be at the same point, marching in lockstep, not even a a yard apart should stretch our credulity.

Call me a conspiracy theorist if you like, but consider this thought from the conspiracy theorist in chief:

skripals-pair-image

Other video shots produced as evidence of their involvement show the same men walking the streets of a town that might be Salisbury. There’s no reason to believe it isn’t, but with no distinguishing landmarksthe street could be almost anywhere.

Still from I?TV news via The Daily Mail online

On March 3, the day before former Russian Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were apparently stricken with a powerful nerve agent. The two would-be assassins then allegedly flew back to Moscow from London late on March 4.

One of the most preposterous claim made by British security services, is that traces of the Novichok nerve agent used to poison the Skripals were found in the London hotel room where the alleged Kremlin agents stayed. The incompetence of these two supposedly highly trained super assassins is beyond belief . If the official narrative is correct, they seem to have spilled this stuff everywhere they went. Yet, we are told, it is one of the most potent nerve agents known and contact with a miniscule amount can be fatal. Leaving aside the potency of Novichok which seems to be in some doubt, it is amazing that of the five people affected by the poison as the Russian assassins splashed it about randomly throughout southern England, the two who have died were not the targets of this clowninsh operation.

More realistically clumsy, however, is the attempt by the British to lay an incriminating trail and now to name and blame two Russians who we are told were back in Russia or at least on their way back when the first victims were affected by the poison.

Former British ambassador Craig Murray and other astute observers have noted that the latest video shots released by Britain’s counter-terrorism police are highly questionable. The images could have been easily fabricated with modern digital methods. They are not evidence of anything. Yet, suspiciously, the British authorities are in unseemly haste to make their sensational charges of Russian state culpability.

The day after the Met police announcement implicating the two Russian culprits, Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May stood up in front of her parliament and claimed that the two individuals were members of Russian military intelligence, the GRU. Rather predicably the Russian government denied ever having heard of them. UK government Home Office security  minister, Ben Wallace, then accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of having personal responsibility for ordering the alleged assassination plot although there is no evidence for that and at a time of heightened tensions such outbursts are never going to be helpful.

Then on Thursday Britain summoned a meeting of the United Nations Security Council to reiterate its claims against Russia without providing any further substantiating details to back up the sensational accusations which are based on the belief that creating a bogeyman will swing public opinion in favour of military action against. The credulous British news media have obedienly pimped up the accusations giving the claims a veneer of credibility, holding the warmongers and military – industrial complex salesmen in government to account over the numerous irregularities in this narrative.

Vasily Nebenzia, Russia’s envoy to the United Nations commented that the whole aim of  Britain’s accusations is to whip up more anti-Russian feeling in the international community. As envoy Nebenzia pointed out, it is entirely unreasonable for the British prime minister to make the categorical claim that the two allegedly Russian men in the video shots released this week are members of the GRU? Typically, she made the claim without providing any substantiating information as she has previously accused Russia of hostile acts without citing any evidence.

The British government is also teetering on political implosion from the Brexit debacle and growing public contempt for Prime minister May’s amateurish incompetence and lack of leadership qualities.

This was the same kind of plucking from thin air that Theresa May performed only days after the Skripals were apparently poisoned in Salisbury on March 4. Again, back then, May stood in front of parliament and dramatically accused Russia of a state-sponsored assassination attempt. The British authorities have cast, and continue to cast, a verdict without any legal case. That verdict relies entirely on Russophobia and prejudice of Russian malfeasance.

No sooner had Britain unleashed its latest allegations, than a joint statement was released by the United States, Canada, Germany and France supporting the British claims. All this comes at a time when it is widely known the Assad government, backed by Russia and Iran, is preparing an all – out assault on Syria’s Idlib province, the last stronghold of the various Islamic extremist groups that with the backing of the USA’s Obama administration, (Trump ordered the US to cease funding and supplying arms to the rebels,) the EU, NATO and Saudi Arabia, have been trying to overthrow Assad for four years.  As I reported in mid August the Russian government predicted a false flag chemical weapon incident was being prepared to justify military intervention to prevent the final defeat of Islamic State.

Britain is now, stupidly, calling for more punitive economic sanctions against Moscow as it did earlier this year when the Skripals apparently fell ill on a park bench in Salisbury, a quiet Cathedral city in southern England. Russian diplomats have  now been expelled from twenty eight nations over earlier and similarly unsubstantiated claims about Russian malfeasance. More sanctions are likely, with the intended effect of framing Russia as a pariah state only resulting in economically harming EU and NATO members that trade with Russia more that Russia itself.

The timing of this latest development in the Skripal saga is probably significant. As reported in my opening paragraphs, the US, Britain and France are threatening to launch military strikes on Syria just as the Syrian army and its Russian ally move to defeat the last-remaining stronghold of weatern-backed terror groups formed to effect regime change in that country.

The defeat of IS would bring to an ignominious end the  criminal war against the Assad government in Damascus, a war which, according to very real evidence available in the public domain, was intended to impose a puppet regime in Damascus and facilitate the building of oil and gas pipelines from Saudi Arabia and the gulf states to the Easter Mediterranean, thus undermining Russia’s oil and gas trade with Europe.

Last month Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel held a productive, cordial summit with President Putin near Berlin, where the two leaders appeared to solidify a rapprochement over a crucial energy project between Russia the European Union. This news was not well received in Washington or Riyadh where the US government fears moves to dump the US dollar as global reserve currency, while the Saudis sense their ability to control the global trade in oil slipping away.
