Ireland to Jail ‘Hate Speech’ Offenders for Up to Five Years, But New Laws Are Arousing A Lot Of Hate

Always eager to be at the forefront of any fascitic EU campaign against freedom an civilised values, the government of Ireland published new ‘Hate Speeech’ legislation on Thursday (27 October). Under the new laws any individual found guilty of using “hate speech” in Ireland will face up to five years in jail. The country’s Justice Minister, Helen McEntee, has been at the centre of the country’s push towards implementing the effective abolition of free speech under the guise of protecting vulnerable minorities from “hate speech”, with her department announcing that the first draft of the new laws would soon be put in front of the nation’s parliament.

Under the proposed law, people found guilty of “any intentional or reckless communication or behaviour that is likely to incite violence or hatred against a person or persons because they are associated with a protected characteristic” could be sentenced to a maximum of five years jail time.

What’s more, and here’s the bit that would really make Hitler or Mussolini’s thugs proud, any individual convicted of such an offence would be branded a “hate criminal”, a label which the minister says is designed to “follow an offender in court, in garda vetting, and so on”.

“[H]ate speech is not about free speech,” McEntee declared in a statement published by her department. “Hate speech is designed to shut people down, to shut them up, to make them afraid to say who they are and to exclude and isolate them,” she continued. “There is nothing free about that, and there is, frankly, no place for it in our society.”

No, hate speech is about stupid, virtue signalling politicians giving nasty, restentful little shits the ability to destroy somebody’s life. Hate Speech, you see, has not and cannot have and solid legal definition. Hate speech is defined by the hearer’s interpretation of remarks heard or overheard. Thus a completely innocuous comment made in a private conversation but overheard by some hateful little shit, can destroy somebody’s life, even if the offending comment is an undeniable truth, for example saying that somebody born with a penis is a man and cannot ever become a woman.

So a jilted lover, a thwarted business rival, someone whose childish playground insults have festered since schooldays can be targeted and accused of hate speech simply as an act of revenge. Human nature being what it is, how could anything possibly go wrong?

The announcement that the Irish government — already deeply unpopular due to its inept and chaotic response to the COVID pandemic, followed by similar mishandling of the ongoing cost of living, energy,housing, and migrant crises — now aims to implement hate speech legislation posssibly by the end of this year has angered many, who have accused the ruling coalition of trying to silence critics. When somebody can be jailed for saying, “The Prime Minister is a useless, authoritarian clown,” what is that other than the suppression of free speech. And the suppression of free speech, along with control of the media (already accomplished,) is always the first act of a fascist regime.

A representative from Free Speech Ireland told reporters that the Irish public was broadly opposed to the implementation of such legislation, and that the move would almost certainly strain police resources in the country. This blog is certain it will also poison police / public relations.

“No one in Ireland asked for these laws except for elite NGOs,” the spokesman said, adding that the new laws would almost certainly restrict freedom of speech in the country.

AS I reported in TCW Defending Freedom here, Dr Sam White, a former partner in a Hampshire GPs’ practice, was suspended by NHS England after tweeting a resignation video in February explaining his concerns around Covid vaccination and what he felt about the government and NHS’s over-zealous response to the pandemic.

Now the independent Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) has ruled that there were no grounds for suspending Dr White – but he must still be gagged.

For the next 18 months, Dr White ‘must not use social media to put forward or share any views about the Covid-19 pandemic and its associated aspects’.

Dr White’s lawyers will appeal under Article 10 of the Human Rights Act 1998, which states that everyone has the right to freedom of expression, although the law may be subject to conditions or restrictions necessary in a democratic society. Surely doctors should never be silenced in a democratic society? Dr White said: ‘If I lose my ability to speak freely so will other doctors.

‘I have been forced to agree that I will erase the video and any other Covid criticism from my Twitter and Instagram accounts.

‘In the wake of the Jane Barton issue [Jane Barton was dubbed “Dr Opiate” after 650 patients in her care died after she prescribed powerful painkillers] the Royal College of General Practitioners commented that doctors should feel able to report promptly systemic failings and that is what I did. So to be punished for that is confusing to say the least.’

Maya Forstater transgender comments judgement protects everyone’s rights

Maya Forstater has said that her landmark free speech ruling protects “everyone’s rights.”

Speaking on GB News, the former thinktank employee said that she was glad that she’d pursued an appeal in her dismissal case.

Maya Forstater’s contract was not renewed in March 2019 after she posted tweets opposing government proposals to reform the Gender Recognition Act to allow people to identify as the opposite sex.

On Thursday, Ms Forstater, who worked as a tax expert at the Centre for Global Development (CGD), won her appeal against an employment tribunal, a judgment which the international think tank described as “a step backwards for inclusivity and equality for all”.

Mr Justice Choudhury said the original tribunal had “erred in law”, but added: “This judgment does not mean that those with gender-critical beliefs can ‘misgender’ trans persons with impunity.”

Finding in favour of Ms Forstater, the High Court judge said her views “may well be profoundly offensive and even distressing”, but said they “must be tolerated in a pluralist society”.

Mr Justice Choudhury acknowledged “some trans persons will be disappointed by this judgment”.

In a statement released after the judgment, Ms Forstater said: “Thousands of ordinary people supported my case and today, I’m pleased and proud to say that we have been vindicated.

“Only the most extreme views, akin to totalitarianism or Naziism, are excluded from protection, and the judge said my belief, which is widely shared, and does not seek to destroy the rights of trans people, clearly did not fall into that category.

“No-one can be forced to profess a belief they do not hold, like trans women are women and trans men are men, and punished if they refuse.

“I’m proud of the role that I’ve played in clarifying the law and inspiring more people to speak up but we can’t leave the burden on individuals to put this right.”

And it’s no more obvious than in the lockdowns on speech. In the past week we’ve seen another major assault on Twitter-alternative Gab. A massive attack on its security architecture handing out the passwords and information of millions of users to the dark web.

Then Texas Governor Greg Abbott, you know the guy who let millions of Texans freeze last month rather than order the coal-fired plants brought online in defiance of the DoE, piles on calling Gab “anti-semetic.”

Gab CEO Andrew Torba then informed us that the attacks on Gab are far deeper than even a putz like Abbott’s. The relentless pressure to cut his company off from the doing business continues, with bank after bank refusing to do business with them.

Torba’s invoking Operation Chokepoint is important here. It reminds us that Biden is a cypher put in place to restore Obama to the White House as functional president.

Silicon Valley has always been the home of corporate control freakery, IT coprporations somehow seem to be the natural business activity of sociopathic billionaires who, sharing a complete lack of humanity and its associated qualities, compassion and emapthy are capable of convincing themselves that their efforts to gather to themselves ever more wealth, power and influence.

In the early days of the Internet it was naively believed by the founding stoners of web culture that the net would be the final barrier that would stop the big tech corporations taking over the world.

These days, scandals tend to morph into meta-scandals, and the New York Post’s recent report on Hunter Biden’s links to a Ukrainian energy company was no exception. In the end, the content of the controversial Post story received far less attention than Facebook and Twitter’s moves to block its circulation on their sites, based on the claim that it constituted “disinformation”. While plenty of Democratic partisans applauded this move, others saw it as an alarming case of overt censorship on the part of the platforms that now exert broad control over the spread of information.

The journalist Glenn Greenwald, one of the most vocal Left-wing critics of the tech companies’ actions, asserted that they “never wanted this role.” Instead, he said, “[i]t was foisted on them by people, led by journalists, demanding they censor.” And indeed, since the 2016 election, much of the Left-of-centre media has faulted social media platforms for what they see as overly permissive policies on political speech.

As many have previously pointed out, support for restricting speech is a sharp pivot away from principles once common on the Left. Notably, one of the most iconic protest events of the 1960s was the Berkeley Free Speech Movement, a revolt against the University of California’s limitations on political speech. (In recent years, in contrast, student radicals have been more likely to protest their universities’ unwillingness to restrict expression on campus.)

What’s less well-remembered about the Berkeley Free Speech Movement is that then, as now, debates about the freedom of expression revolved around technology — specifically, information technology. OK, as we all know this disease causes the body to produce the same antibodies as the common cold, it is not surprising that the more people we test, the more false positives there will be. However we all know, or should by now, that 97.5% of people who test positive will as worst only develop the mildest of symptoms. Meanwhile the crusties of EkSTINKtion rebellion contrinue with their agenda of disrupting business and public life without comment from political leaders, except for Nigel Farage, and seemingly without hinderance from the police

Since its formation in 2018, Extinction Rebellion’s agenda has not been to operate as a branch of the Greta Thunberg fan club, but to overthrow democratic government and the rule of law. In view of the latest wave of disuption and the collaboration with Black Lives Matter it is obvious that the group is more than just a rebranded version of the environmentalist movement’s extremist fringe.

Such facts are not lost on the average punter, it is not just the offensive body odour of these unwashed posh kids as they play at rebellion, their antics have alienated rather than won the hearts and minds of the general public. Maybe public opprobium is a price they are willing to pay in return for the publicity and inevitable invitations to supply panellists for the politically biased panels of BBC debate programmes. And they have surely worked out that their extremist ideas (so far left they are to the right of Genghis Khan,) are not going to win any democratic votes so supporting the extention of authoritarian measures introduced ostensibly to contain the pandemic on the basis that only authoritarian global government can save the planet is a logical step for them.

You may agree, that depends on what you think Extinction Rebellion believe and want. The self-righteousness that permeates their direct action – a cutish form of zealotry which convinces XR supporters that they have the right to stop patients getting to hospitals, or to dictate what newspapers their fellow citizens should be allowed to read – isn’t accidental it is expedient. They saw how project fear worked for pandemic promoters and think similar bullying will work for their own Marxist agenda.

Unlike previous generations of the environmentalist movement who sought to persuade people to their cause by peacefully arguing their case, and whose only threatening tactic was to offer you a bowl of lentil casserole, XR prides itself on extremism, and leaders have even gone on record as saying if the authorities refuse to yield to their demands they will resort to violence to get what they want. The tactics deployed by the so-called “rebellion” were the first sign of a different attitude.

XR’s appetite for direct action gained media attention if not public support. A series of politically motivated stunts which disrupted public life, closing roads and rail links for example, made the organisation notorious and established its activist credentials, and gave participants the proverbial fifteen minutes of fame which they obviously relished, apart from the guy who was pulled off the roof of a London Underground train by an angry crowd of inconvenienced workers at Canning Town).

One prominent XR activist, Donnachadh McCarthy, justified the recent disruption of newspaper distribution by claiming that: “This is like World War Two and you guys [the newspapers] are on the other side… It puts you on the side of the existential threat. It is a different existential threat but it is a bigger one than the Nazis.”

People who believe that they and their allies represent the forces of good in the Manichaean struggle with evil – a struggle in which defeat means the death of the very world, that the battle they are waging is in support of a higher authority (in the case science rather than God, but the zealotry of XR followers suggests science has become a god to them,) then it should surprise nobody that these crusaders do not care about the approval of fellow citizens, or care about their democratic or human rights.

The freedom of people to move freely around towns and the country, commute to work, buy a newspaper or watch a balanced political debate on TV is obviously secondary to saving the panet and all life forms it supports, so why would XR warriors think twice about stripping us of those rights along with the right to vote and the right to think for ourselves and freely express our opinions, even if the “science” they have turned into their god and claim informs their agenda is as shaky as a skyscraper in an earthquake?

The lives and freedoms of us ordinary punters are merely collateral damage to the XR zealots, we are “on the wrong side of history,” in the words of their bizarre language that always sounds as if every word is scripted for them by some mad Marxist sociology professor . As for people brave enough to challenge the established truths of the Extinction Rebellion, unconscionable neo – Nazi murders of babies and small, furry animals that we are, the right to freedom of expression is not merely an evidence of a need for re-education, but a likely trigger for a medieval witch hunt culminating in the thinker of heretical thoughts being surrounded by an angry mob demanding the ultimate penalty.

Extremists are always humourless of course so predictably XR supporters do not see the irony in tagging their campaign of preventing people from reading newspapers and demanding the silencing of researchers and commentators with whom it disagrees was tagged #FreeTheTruth.

This cultish quasi – religious fanaticism really gets scary when you consider the kind of world their ultimate victory would lead us into. If you know about “Uncle Joe” Stalin’s murderous purges or Chairman Mao’s cultural revolution you know what I mean, if not you should read some history on these regimes and if you find academic history a bit heavy there are many well researched fictional works which paint a clear picture: Ken Follett’s Winter of The World and David Mitchell’s Ghost Written are good places to start. When the far – right left talk of revolutionary alteration of our society, institutions and economy – “system change, not climate change” – they mean it. The have no vision for the future, only a conviction that the present is bad and must be destroyed. And as happened in Soviet Russia and Communist China, when the old order is destroyed by violent revolution the tyrants are always ready to step out of the shadows and fill the void.
